READ BEFORE ASKING TO JOIN, IF YOU DON’T KNOW WTF UR GETTING INTO YOU WILL BE LOST.

REQUIREMENTS: IRC (You can download irc @ http://www.mirc.com/index.html - Server: Game Surge (random server) click on select and join the channel #DanBattle)
Want to play? Well if you aren’t in the IRC channel while the battle is going on, you won’t be taken seriously. Only the players that commit to getting on IRC are actually here for the battle and not on pure convenience (O LOOK A TOURNEY IS GOING ON.)

What are the Dan Battle rules?
[LIST][]New players begin at 1st Dan
[]Players fight other players within 1 rank of themselves
[]One win = +1 point, One loss = -1 point, +3 moves the player up 1 rank, -3 moves the player down 1 rank
[]Rankings go from 1st to 10th Dan, with special rankings after 10th Dan
[]After 10th Dan, players only fight other players of the same rank, and must instead get +5 points to move up a rank
[]When you play a different character it’s treated as a new player, so you will start at 1st Dan

Ok, I want to enter the battle, how do I?
If you haven’t posted in the thread adding yourself then you can join the IRC channel we will be using EVERY BATTLE #Danbattle @ Gamesurge on the day of the battle and message me on there, I will promote you to talk and add you to the battle. If you ask me to add you on GGPO and I don’t know who you are, you will probably be ignored or told to do the following above.

How is this going to work exactly?
The player who wins plays till he loses or moves up in rank. If someone moves up rank, they will continue to play till they lose unless no one in their respective rank or 1 within are on. Because players fight within 1 rank of themselves you will be forced to wait for someone to reach 1 rank within yours. While this is happening the second match will be played of new drawn players.

GGPO Rules
[LIST][]If you are in the channel on IRC and are called to play, you will be skipped if you are AFK for 2minutes+
[]If you have tried to connect with the player and by all means you cant get a connection, I will have to random you against a different player.
[]Smoothing is important, change it based on your opponents MS(ping). (1-2 10-70ms x 3 []70-110ms x 4 120ms)

Note: This is for fun. The great thing about the Dan Battles is you don’t have to worry about getting peaced out and not being able to play till the next tournament. You will always have someone to play. The ranking system will track your skill progress every week, put in work, see results. As long as people respect the reporters and spectators things should go smoothly. But if you don’t, I will have to remove you, a lot of this is riding on the people reporting and spectating and the least you can do is make their/my life easier.

Please make this happen. I think its very possible. I saw that one tourny that Domino(?) ran on a saturday on GGPO and it looked like it ran smoothly. Count me in!

It would have to be someone that is available for every Danisen Battle. They could make a thread in the 3s section. I see the OP online almost every time I am on, so I would nominate him to do it if he has the time. If there isn’t some authority present at each battle then maybe the players could report it themselves?

don’t know how comfortable i would be with jsut the players reporting it themselves as ggpo is already well known for having its shares of trolls/liars, etc. however i do like the idea of a designated person, or rather a designated few to observe matches. if we are going to do this, being that we are all playing from different locations, i think a presence will be needed in each of the designated matches. maybe we can make a schedule of matches for each person to observe before hand, maybe a night or 2 before the danisen battles begin? i’d be down for being a spectator and reporting matches back and forth/keeping track.

Same here. I’d be down to help out in that way. I think that having a schedule ready in advance (at least 2-3 days) is smart too. Having a few people observing will also allow for simultaneous ranking matches to save time. I think if there is someone that has web hosting/design capabilities could make it so there is a site for the list of everyone in case a thread is insufficient.

Does Supercade’s replay saving feature work well? I know people would prefer GGPO (especially for something on this scale) but perhaps if Supercade could just allow people to make their own replays then the spectator wouldn’t be necessary.

Online tourneys are lame, but I’m open to this kinda thing since its a good measure of progress.

A couple of things will be important to actually keeping this going:

-more than one person offering to supervise/run things so we don’t just have one guy that gets burned out quickly like with the tourneys

-keeping the info/announcements/etc on srk

Having a website to keep track of the stats will be nice, but everything else should stay here. There’s already a great community here and splintering everything off and trying to convince people to go register at some random new forum never works.

It would be fun though and more interesting than the tourneys for sure. Here’s hoping it works out.

And somebody brought up “what if we cant connect” great thing about GGPO theres tons of players, you’ll just fight someone else in the battle.

Yea it works after a match some window will pop up if you want to save it or not
