Usual GGPO online session for me: Go into ST/3S/Garou/etc. room, accept challenge, FBAlpha starts up, “Connecting to server…”, nothing happens, start over. Accept challenge again, “Connecting to server…”, “Connected.”, wait a few seconds, realize nothing’s happening, ragequit, go get a drink of water.
Awesome, same.

New method to connect: Hundred challenges.
Challenge and get challenged by your opponent a hundred times, and go opening windows until one works, by chance, that is when the server luckily answer your request until time out.
Sad… but works.
Here’s my GGPO FAQ to connecting a game when it feels like GGPO doesn’t work:
- The challenger should challenge, cancel, challenge, cancel, challenge, cancel. Even though you’re canceling, the challenges remain on the challenged player’s screen.
- The challenged player should accept all 3 challenges in a row.
- Wait for the 3 nFBA windows to pop up. If one or more connects, use the leftmost window that connected and close the other windows.
- If none of the windows connect in 5 seconds (regardless if it says it’s connecting or already connected, the latter of which normally means the other player has already closed his window), both players should close all 3 nFBA windows.
- Repeat step 1 where the challenged player should now become the challenger.
Just keep at it and it’ll eventually work. It’s taken another player and me 20 tries to get a game up (that’s 60 windows open), which is annoying, but if you really want to play against someone, this will do the trick (assuming your ports are already forwarded). You don’t need to wait, reset your router, reset your computer, or do anything else; none of that will help you connect either.
Other tips:
-If you get a compilation error, pretty much nothing you do will allow you to connect, not even restarting your computer. Just wait for another day and it’ll work.
-If you get a “user not registered” message, tell the other player to close his GGPO window and log back in.
-If logging into GGPO promptly logs you back out (often, after a hung match), open GGPO and wait at the login screen until the startup finishes loading and then try to login.
-If you want to avoid spectators, accepting multiple times will always result in your game being delisted. Just go on AFK and it’ll be as if you’re not playing. Also, one player can just close their GGPO window (but the problem then is that chat won’t work anymore).
-If people are spamming, use the GGPO version with ignore functionality. If you want to see where players are on the map, use the legitimate GGPO version.
-If you get the “Please don’t spam…” message, close your GGPO window and log back in.
Hopefully, knowing all this will help kill off erroneous “GGPO is down” comments.
When GGPO was really down, with time and date expressed, it was realy down, ganelon, and altough you could with some luck connect to ggpo and chat and everything, even hundred challenges wouldn’t work at all.
didnt ggpo crash like yesterday… and some weird guy was spamming in the message board that he did it… if so that’s like the ultimate ragequit…
Right, I posted on the day it was actually down. But you brought up a tangent just now and I followed with it.
GGPO crashes often but all you have to do is log back in. Existing games continue fine.
how do I get past the login screen?
When will people realize that nobody is really watching GGPO, it is free (and buggy as hell) and most problems are with the software itself? Just deal with it. You can’t fix everything on it.

I was finally able to connect last night after years of not being able to, so today I decide to practice 3S so that I can go on, and then I try to connect . . . nothing. 
Better not be getting DDOSed again.

Yeah, I can’t log in either. The website seems to be having problems and the ggpo client won’t respond to ‘Login’ button.
Hopefully, this stall means that players will be getting an update. However, that is unlikely, I would pay to play GGPO - or at least donate if need be.
