Also, 2 videos by me. I’m not that good so I’m looking for feedback. Other than dropping links and missing some crucial punishes, what should I improve on right now?
Note: the Deejay / Cody match starts at 1hr 44m, followed by bison
I shook my head so many times watching those Northbay matches. No disrespect to Tyram, but i think JCool813 and others on youtube have much better Deejay’s than Tyram. Even I’ve beaten 2 Cody’s in local tournament with Deejay, and many others online, it’s one of deejay’s easiest matchups imo. There were so many missed opportunities and questionable decisions in that Cody match. He had many chances to land AA slide but chose to just stand there or throw out cr. mk for some reason. He kept wasting his meter on full screen EX air slashers. Never really attempted block strings / combos, just went for grab after a blocked jumpin/crossup (which was always tech’d). Didn’t use light sobat against focus enough, etc.
And shoutouts to Magnus1234 for his completely wrong analysis of the Bison/Deejay matchup. It’s nothing like Bison/Guile. A good Bison should never struggle with Deejay, all he has to do is stay close and pressure with crouching attacks and scissors. Deejay has no answer for cr. shorts on wakeup, and lacks a low-hitting AA like Guile. Also, magnus seems to think Air Slashers are still called Max Outs, and he even thinks Deejay still says “Max Out”.
Edit:
Pattbird, I think Jcool and others are pry more qualified than me to analyze your gameplay, but i just wanted to compliment you on those N64 cartridges. That was my favorite system. KI GOLD 4 LIFE!
I honestly wasn’t going to check out the vids but after your long analysis I feel I have to.
Maybe make a video breakdown.
edit:
wow at that deejay.
no mgu
dropped combos.
didn’t even try to normal AA
Ultra 1? Atleast, ATLEAST juggle it of the ex mgu or learn ex air slasher U1
WTH is with all the ex air slasher?
Bison could have ultra’d that for free. If that bison knew the matchup he would have put Tyram on blast.
EX Air Slasher to start the match?
That game play made me angry. I made it through the whole thing.
Magnus said he plays unorthodox but that is just not the way to go.
The Cody matchup is free after you knockdown. the match is only hard if you try to play footsies.
I couldn’t make a video breakdown because it would be full of profanity and bashing and that’s not what i’m about.
Bison v DeeJay is 4-6 Bison because DeeJay’s fireball is negligible.
This is a very winnable match for DeeJay. I might even want to call it 5-5 because deejay can lame it out ftw.
I just watched these and theyre pretty beast, hes mad aggressive. The framerate made some hard to watch but I think i either got used to it or it wasnt bad on the later ones. The 7th vid is crazy, I gotta start fadcing max outs in the corner.
Yeah tyram doesn’t really play as much as he used to. And his only training partner moved away. But yeah, he needs some work. Biggest problem is meter management, spacing and no AA’s for his deejay. He’s still a good player, but just out of practice :\
Huh? I hope I’m misunderstanding this, but are you saying that DJ has the advantage in this match? If so, I wanted to make it clear for everyone that DJ certainly does not have the advantage in this match. Bison is a really hard matchup for DJ; he has superior normals and superior options. DJ’s fireball is almost negligible anytime Bison is standing; many, many, many things Bison has can shut this down. Just trust me.
my bison friend showed me that off a forward throw (or was it backthrow, don’t remember) a meaty j.mk crossup will stuff lk upkicks (going the wrong way) and make ex upkicks whiff completely (also going the wrong way). You can’t autocorrect it. It made me rethink the matchup again. Before i used to say it was dead even when the round begins, then wildly in bisons favor if deejay gets in the corner, but now i’m not so sure. For starters it’s not hard for bison to get deejay’s back to the corner, and also i don’t think he is any worse off in the corner than at midscreen, regarding scissor pressure. You still have to watch bison’s spacing after the blocked scissors for a clue into what he will do next (close = keep blocking, further away = try an upkick if you feel it’s worth the risk, out of range = air slash to get some breathing room), and also watch for shenanigans.
I don’t think its in deejay’s favor, but i believe strangely the best way to approach the matchup is to “be” like bison. Be on his ass constantly and don’t give him a chance to get a scissor out, avoid using any sort of sobat. Trying to zone him will likely have you dead quickly.
i have been starting to look at matchups as safe/unsafe zones instead of what move to do to counter what move (the former because deejay can’t really play a footsies game with anyone, the latter because after a while it’s kind of obvious what beats what if you know his moveset)
for bison i think deejay’s safe zones are from fullscreen to just outside lk scissors range, the danger zone is between lk scissors range and st. hk/st. mk range, and then right next to bison is a safe(ish) zone (provided you don’t get yourself locked in blockstun)
his st.hk got buffed as an AA but i do know that many bison players are still uncomfortable dealing with opponents that are directly above his head.
edit
just realized this is completely the wrong thread to be discussing matchups
Justin.tv - Xanadu Games: SSF4 Live! - Xanadu Stream Season 3 Xanbats Aug 25 2010 at 6:22PM PDT vs ken
starts at about 0:44:00 second match, kinda settled down a bit.
starts about 1:49:23 third and last match, vs sagat and bison. dont ask me what i was doing before the match, and during the character selection screen i dont know, i look dumb, anyway, i figured i’d post these here so people could look at them and maybe help me on what i could do better.
You have a good DeeJay and your positive outweighs the negative by a ton. Sometimes you should do a st.lp or lk on your block strings. It forces the opponent to respect tic throws and you can catch those 3 frame mashers and croch tech whores off guard. Also, it’s hard doing the Vortex on characters like Bison. So sometimes you have to go for the big damage combos (ex. cr. lp, cr.lpxxex mgu, ex dread kick). You would have gotten a lot of CH if you cr. mp after your cr. lp. He was mashing like hell.
Your meaty jab/short xx EX mgu setups were pretty obvious and your opponents blocked them almost all the time. That’s wasted meter right there. I can’t tell you how to improve that unfortunately because that’s a problem I’m facing too, making my meatys surprising. Another thing to improve on is the use of knee shot. I’m also still working on that, but it’s a really nice tool in your mixup game, and you should use it more.
yo boom ssoulja, you got a good dee jay. Just don’t forget to punish hard, and watch your meters. You could have had a big super combo against the ken. Also I saw you went for some knees and messed up the input, I hate when that happens. Just keep the pressure on bison, you got to go offensive on him, and find a way to punish him for teleporting, option select, or something.
Thanks, i appreciate the information. yeah, I tried to punish with cr. lp. cr. lp. cr. lk. EX MGU EX Dread Kick, but i got cr. lp. cr. lp. cr. lk. cr. lp. 0.0
Ill also mix up my block strings a lot more.
@PattBert
Yeah, lol, i saw it as well, also, i messed up my knee shot inputs quite a lot, but hey, there is always room for improvement. thanks for the information.
@ No_Cigar
Yeah, sometimes those instant knee shots are a pain lol, but yeah, man i was mad when i messed up that super combo lol, i was like NOOOOOOOOOOOO, but oh well, stuff happens, always room for improvement. As far as the bison match-up, i felt like if I had LK Sobat a lot more, than he would have figured out how to punish it, as i think bison is one of the chars you shouldnt use sobat pressure on. Anyways i did the best i could, thanks for the information.
@ boom soulja, you did really good, I like the corner trapping, good stuff. Against bison though don’t go for ground pressure. It’s more about jumping in on him, you get a knockdown you jump in, if he blocks you can tick or go into n. jump HK to keep pressure on, maybe blockstring to crossup or knee shot. If he’s teleporting every time to avoid wakeup games, do an early jump/slide to get next to him then meaty cr. LP > cr. LP (o-s cr. HK) > and continue string. If it hits you can combo, if he teleports he gets knocked backdown and doesn’t want to teleport anymore, if he blocks you keep the pressure on. Just don’t always go for a meaty, mix it up with just block late crouch tech to bait out his reversals, make him waste his stock.
Thanks, i will definately try to add this into my game. As far as the corner trapping, yeah its real fun, keeps the pressure on as long as you space your sobats right.
