I know I dont usually talk about tier lists but over at Haraheri Koba (Japanese Grant player) started of a new tier list for Garou MOTW. He bases the list on the overall strength of each character. He also explains each characters strength from top of the list to below. He hasnā€™t completed explaining all the characters just yet but has done a few of them already. Iā€™ll just post up the new tier list and will try translating the strengths of each character on the list so far.

Iā€™ll add to this post the character strengths explained by Koba or I can make seperate posts for each. We can also go over this tier list if anyone believes the characters are placed in the wrong spots.

That tier list is definitely interesting. Iā€™d love to read what he has to say. I especially like the fact that Jenet is up there because I think sheā€™s way too underestimated. Iā€™d like to think the Hotaru or Terry could be in the strong category as well.

But seriously, if any character from MOTW, Kain is the one who has evolved most when seeing people such as Nocturnal and Charlesā€™s Wain doing crazy stuff. Sure, sick Feint-cancels are around but I rarely see the being performed in actual matches, however a lot of Kainā€™s stuff such as the Guard Crush-strings are seen in almost every game that guyā€™s in (when played good that is).

So I think Kain deserves to be up there.

As for Kevin/Gato/Jenet, they are without a doubt top 3 (and in that particular order if you ask me).

I personally believe that it is hard to determine the Strong-section; Jae being just under top-tiers is fine but as for Dong, I believe that at least Terry and Butt can match him, so that category is a bit tricky I suppose.

Iā€™m sure Marco/Terry are the next in line or at least the first 2 character on the top of the good list. Koba only goes over the Very Strong and Strong characters from his overall experience playing the game. Iā€™ll see if I can start translating most of what he saying more simplified as a list.

He mentions somethings I canā€™t translate correctly. A lot of these things have already been mentioned but Iā€™ll just repeat what he is saying. These are all I could translate on my own for now:

Kevin

-Can hit verify off his stand :snka:. So he can decide if he wants to cancel into :qcf: + :snkb: or just wait since itā€™s pretty fast and safe.

-If he lands his BnB off the stand :snka: youā€™ll take about 1/4 of the opponents life easy without meter.

  • He also has his Guard Crush corner loop with the (dash in stand :snka:, :qcf: + :snkb:, break) x n. This is mainly when you have the opponent cornered.

-When Kevin has his P power stored it changes the match in his favor because he has his P power ready to come out at any moment. This causes the opponent to back away and block more usually to a corner which is where Kevin wants his opponents.

-Has the fastest meter building ability in the game with his :qcb: + :snka:, :snka: + :snkd: or :qcb: + :snkc:, :snka: + :snkd:, etc.

Jenet

-Has the ability to keep her opponents locked down with well time dive kick into ground normal then rejump quickly to repeat the pattern. Can lead to a guard crush but this is what makes Jenet so deadly.

-Her :d: + :snka: + :snkb: is effective for anti air, ground poking and for combos.

-Her air grab is very good and easy to do.

-Her jumping air to air :snka: and :snkb: normals are very effective.

-Easy to jump in with her and combo. For example: jump in :snkd: or cross-up :snkd:, land, :d: + :snkb:, :qcb: + :snka:. Her combos are very basic but effective.

I think Janet has problem against crossovers, hell I think she doesnā€™t have all-around good reversal/antiair without meter. She is great, but I donā€™t think sheā€™s top 3. Maybe top 5.

They are basing it off mostly on offensive strength from what is sounds like and I have to agree. Once Jenet is on top of her dive kick lockdown itā€™s really hard to counter it.

wowā€¦ other than being less predictable, whatā€™s a good strategy against your Freeman? Oh, and do I want to know how good your Kain is? :sweat:

Pretty much every character has their own way to get out of block strings be it a command normal or special. Itā€™s important to watch for gaps in block strings as well as making them as safe as possible.

Been on GGPO a lot these past couple of daysā€¦ started out with rock but didnā€™t really like his style, switched to Gato. Having a lot of fun even if I donā€™t know what Iā€™m doing a lot of the time. Love this game, got rolled by a Jenet BR player earlier today.

I can teach you Gato in 5 minutes. :woot:

Also, what do you guys think about having a bi-weekly or weekly tourney on GGPO?
