More gbursine vs. DSP. Was kinda worried in the first round but a couple mistakes by DSP and he totally turned it around. Awesome.

Good match there by gbursine, getting around tiger shots and roundhouse is pretty tough work.

Also, DSP really likes to whine. He sometimes says “nice” outloud, and he admitted he did something stupid to lose the final round, but complaining that Sagat’s godly ultra doesn’t quite do full damage in the corner is “horseshit”?

muuch tighter game play gburs.

DSP was retarded to keep throwing very obvious tiger shots, just hp tornado to gain distance. like you proved, we shouldn’t really care about taking too much damage, because, when we’re in, its ggpo

I’m new to the 2D fighter scene (I’m a top Smash player in the MD/VA area). Anyway, I love Rufus and I’ve been recording matches so people can give me advice on how to improve, what I can punish, what I shouldn’t do, etc.

But yeah, I have a lot of Rufus matches up and I’ll be posting many more, win or lose, in the future. I really want to improve my game so comments, suggestions, and anything else would be awesome.

Thanks guys. :shy:

Pretty good matches there Inferno. I am not much different when it comes to what level of combos I can pulloff and consistency. I guess the only things you can obviously improve are, learning the harder links, S.LK > S.HP > Galactic > Ultra etc.
And just being more careful on those jump-ins. Especially against someone with an SRK like Sagat. I find myself securing matches by baiting out those SRK’s with a forward jump and early Dive Kick. A lot of times people know you are going for a deep HP and throw out that SRK in a panic. Than sit there and laugh as they float down from the air into your hands.

I like how he uses normal messiah to evade throws and to approach the opp, excelent play from kindevu-san

Just came here to post that! I thought Kindevu had moved on to playing C. Viper. Good to see he still has some love for Ru!

He honestly plays Rufus as God-Tier
once again my bad about the thread placings =p

is rk messiah kick safe on block? wtf. its -9 on block, -2 on hit. i don’t get it, ima do that shit more often. lol.

i dunno how kindenvu does like, glory kick, dive kick(end of last match), and then repeat divekick->throw loop(end of 1st match) w/out getting punched in the face. craziness.

also, my new latest strategy has been to ex messiah kick w/ lk+rk. too many times i eff up and get rufus roll, or mk messiah kick(which doesn’t even combo when it hits -_-)

LMAO. I’m SO glad Bursine beat DSP (multiple times). I can’t stand that guy. He sounds like he would look like this… http://www.billfillmaff.com/

I also took notice to how Kindevu used RH Messiah on those Sagats. If you look at the frame data charts its actually only -6 on block. Seems like a lot but really Sagat’s TU has 5 frames of startup, meaning they’re gonna have to react to it really fast and reversal it if they wanna TU you.

Edit: Dammit! Ignore this post :-/

^ that was actually the last video posted

I’m definately gonna watch this a bunch of times, and hopefully break it down.

Best part on first viewing is the end of the very last match when Kindevu starts a come back with a tornado into the corner. Notice how he crouch blocks until past the Sagat’s wake up reversal window (so that Sagat wouldn’t dare Uppercut on wake up) then triangle jumps through a throw attempt (since that’s the logical thing for Sagat to do against a blocking opponent on wake up) into the corner Tornado> Ultra combo.

Its a great moment, and imo, goes to the very essence what is needed to be good at Rufus- to be able to master all the little nuances of oki/reversal timing so that the opponent is always faced with tough decisions, then capitalising on it when he makes the wrong one.

As for the masses of normal messiah kicks, I really don’t know what was happening there. If the Sagats had mashed a reversal Tiger uppercut, it would’ve punished Kindevu (try it in training mode… it reverses 100% except at the very tip of the Messiah kick). I’m guessing that they didn’t want to risk it, since its a 1 frame window (only for the roundhouse messiah though).

I agree. That specific series of play is exactly what makes Rufus so scary.

A crouching/blocking Rufus on any shoto will tempt them to either uppercut, grab, or jab where Rufus can respond with a block, divekick/ex-messiah, or just ex-messiah respectively.

A tactic that I use is when a divekick hits on block, I go for the grab usually twice in a row. 9 out of 10, the third divekick block attempt can net me a successful re-divekick into HP > HP Tornado or an Ex-messiah. Common knowledge obviously.

I watched sum.

Be more aggressive. Keep the heat on, I wouldn’t run away so much, and you need to learn how to control space better. You should be keeping that Ken for example right where you want him. You need to remember your Anti-airs, HP and c.MP are your best friends. Situations where you ran away you could have controlled him with his obvious jump ins, giving you the advantage to start working in on him with dive kick shinanigans.

Also j.HK and j.HP work as great AA as well, in the right situations/spacing.

Other than that, god I fucking hate when EX Snake Strike comes out instead of Ultra. Glad I’m not alone haha.

I just watched one vid but a suggestion that I don’t think anyone has mentioned is that I’d dash forward instead of walking forward. I noticed a couple of times versus a ken you knocked him down but just walked forward instead of dashing. If you dashing you could get up to him in time to do some dive kick shenanigans perhaps.

Watched one video of you against a Ken player, InfernoOmni.

Some advice:

  • Stop running away, there isn’t much shoto’s can do against you if you keep pressuring them and baiting Shoryuken’s.
  • DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT waste meter. You did some pretty silly EX Messiah Kicks. Keep this in your mind, “What’s scarier a Rufus with 3 bars of meter, or a Rufus with none?”
-You dive kick too high, break that habit. Work on doing really really short dive kicks, aim for the toes. High dive kicks leave you at a frame disadvantage, and makes you open to easy punishment.

Just some other things to say, you are playing online, there is some slight input lag which why you will sometimes get EX Snake Strike instead of Ultra. It’s stupid, and Capcom’s fault for horribe netcoding. Work on that rushdown game, and you will be set.

InfernoOmni I watched some of your videos and you play exactley like me with Rufus haha. Im running away too when I know not to and I after reading some of those replys my dive kick is to high. Another thing is when I do connect with the dive kick to c.mp I end up doing snake strike instead of galactic tornado, pisses me off.

Anyway thanks for those tips ParryAll and justingroton I know they will help me out for sure.
