I do at closer range. I can do that combo quite good but when i feel just a slight insecure about the combo at the time, I just go for the other combo incase i’ll miss just to get the damage which is more important.

Lol, the first 3 vids are the exact same matches. Good find still.
So, they haven’t put up the videos yet, but in the grand finals at the ECT2 tournament I saw justin wong do a reset after stun (usually them in the corner after his bnb) where he jumps over them (putting his back to the corner) lvl 3 focus and then does a very late divekick hitting around the middle of the character as they are about to lay on the ground. He gets the positioning right so its pretty ambiguous as to what side they will land on after the dive kick, but i haven’t quite figured out how he does it. Every time i try it in training, its pretty obvious as to which side they will land on, so any tips for this? (probably the only real recent discovery i’ve seen with rufus other than of course the U2)
focus crumple > backdash, wait a bit, jump forward divekick and remain crouched. they will switch sides in the very last moment, then u go for the mixup. you can even standup before that and they wont change sides
Ah, thanks for pointing out the crouch, that was the missing element to make it ambiguous, thanks.
awesome pink rufus here, the way the last match ends is just too clutch
wow i had no clue that cr.mk linked from st.short
How do you watch this vid?
hey guys, ive been maining rufus now for about 2-3 weeks (abel wasn’t working out) and would love some tips to improve my gameplay

Yep, and st. short can actually link after cr. jab. I’ve been practicing a combo lately, cr. jab, (cr. jab/cr. roundhouse OS), st. short, cr. forward, ex GT. cr. jab to st. short is an unplinkable (but double-tap works if you use that technique) 1 framer, st. short to cr. forward is a plinkable 1 framer. It does almost 40 more damage than cr. jab, (cr. jab/cr. roundhouse OS), cr. jab xx EX GT, looks very sexy, and obviously after the EX GT you can set up a safe jump, or if your opponent’s in the corner you can do a safe jump fierce, empty jump low forward xx HP GT, or perfect crossup divekick to low forward xx HP GT. In other words, force them to choose between back, down-back, or forward/down-forward.
About 25 minutes of me playing.
First match is vs. iNerd (Chun)
Second set is vs. SteveH (Fei Long)
Third set is vs. Saeko (Dictator)
Tell me guys what you think. Specifically, what I could do better and any bad habits you notice or small changes I should make.
You would probably benefit a lot from implementing some jump back fierce in your AA game. Also, you should practice punishing Rekkas, e.g. 2 rekkas should be a free low forward xx EX GT. Even the first hit of LP Rekka should be punishable with cr. lp xx LP GT if it isn’t spaced right. Implement some more overhead into your game, your mixups up close seem to consist of either crouch blocking or doing another divekick. Against characters with DPs, you may have some success with divekick, late crouch tech attempt - e.g., block if they DP, tech if they throw. I noticed a few times you went for chain normals, link into cr. lp, into a normal GT instead of EX. Was that intentional or just execution error?
You seemed semi-pringles against Fei Long neutral jumping, walk forward cr. mp or far mp both might have some success for you. You might also try doing forward, qcf hold forward EX SS, e.g. walking forward snake strike. Also, at one point you did a dive kick in front of M. Bison and he did an EX DR on wakeup… this is a free neutral jump fierce, and it’s not too hard to react to it.
The cr.lp into normal GT was intentional. I’m a meter whore and don’t like spending on EX GT unless I have a lot of it so instead of going for the damage and losing the bar sometimes I go for the regular GT just to build more meter, push back into the corner, and stuff out players who attempt to FA backdash from the chain.
I was a bit pringles against Fei Long’s neutral jumping. SteveH is really good at baiting the j.rh with neutral jumps and stuffing it so I started going for st.fierce. I think EX Snake Strike would be the obvious best punish. I’ll try working that into my game more.
Yeah, and I was wondering what’s the best way to punish Bison doing EX DR on wake up. It’s his only real escape option against Rufus’ mix-up that gives him invincibility on the way up, but of course j.fierce would eat it before he was able to do the devil reverse.
Thanks for the advice. Keep 'em coming.
EX GT can set up safe jumps anywhere, and perfect crossup divekicks in the corner. Do some experimentation, I guarantee you’ll like the results.
Watched your match against iNerd. Good shit, you really scratched out that win with a clutch ultra to end it. I noticed you don’t set up meaty dive kicks after MK’s, thats a must against Chun or generally any character with a 5 or 4 frame reversal. You tried poking a bit too much against Chun, which imo is a no-no as Rufus. Rufus should almost always be working to get in against her, not trying to out-poke her. I noticed you jumped over his fireballs almost every time he threw one. You started to fall into a predictable pattern and he punished you a lot for it. If your gonna jump over his fireballs a lot, make sure you dive kick to change your jump angle and avoid her AA’s. Chun’s fireballs have very good recovery, so it’s not too smart to jump over them too much. FA’ing and just plain old walk-and-block can be more effective then trying to just trying to mindlessly jump in. You hardly AA’d him. Cr.mp and EX SS’s work wonder against Chuns big floaty jump. Another bad habit I see from Rufus players in general is using EX MK’s anytime they get pressured instead of just blocking/crouch teching. If there’s one way to improve as a player, it’s learning how to block effectively.
EDIT: Yeah, also, Jump back Fierce is great against Chun, especially iNerds’ Chun who likes to jump in relatively close. Another thing I noticed is your jumping in with j.RH a bit too much. Not sure if your trying to land a jump-in combo, or you misread a jump-in, but it should be mainly be used as an AA. Oh, and try setting up Rufus’s cross-up forward EX GT and MK’s, it can be really confusing and when used sparingly, ca be very effective
got it and got it
thanks guys. i’ll make sure to clean out some of those rough ends.
