General impression for people who got it early?

Ah heh, well it’s certainly nothing like a versus game. Comparing its pacing to Street Fighter is a bit tricky. It is slow and deliberate in terms of setting up exchanges, but with moments of extreme quick violence (appropriately enough). The pace is perhaps more fluid and variable than say, SFIV.

There’s no touch of death combos w/o possible infinites that have yet to be found (not counting the day one patches for a few basic infinites that are being considered glitches).

Finally, it’s designed around a serious attempt to make a competitive game; calling it “tournament worthy” is something we can’t get a feel for until, well, there’s a tournament. There are early indications that it does have a higher level metagame.

And naturally, it’s designed to be aggressively tweaked. If tweaks can be made over time that encourage more strategy and versatility in the gameplay, they probably will be.

I dropped MvC3 for this.

It feels like UMK3 without the run button and less damage (for now).

I thought the Krypt was bleh. It was really awkward moving around and trying to find stuff. Eventually I just bought everything in order instead of trying to find specific things.

The netcode so far has been great also.

That is very good to hear. Haven’t been this hyped for an MK in a long long time.

Can’t wait to try out Sonya and Smoke.

Feels like the older MKs. If you like MK you’l like this game. If you’ve never played MK series and looking for something fresh, this is worth a try.

I’m from a SF background, never played UMK3 seriously and I have to say this game seems pretty solid. MK is very different from SF so it’s a nice change.

Only complaint is negative edge to the max. I do specials I don’t want to constantly. It’s so intense that you can even press AND release a button (say FK) then directional input (say down, left) and a down, left xx FK special will still come out.

As far as damage goes, most chars’ bnb is ~35-40%. Some are even higher than 40%. Adding x-ray some chars can get up to 60%+. Seems kinda high, but hard to tell for sure until we see competitive play.

Impression on game modes…

Story: Story mode is pretty well done, it’s actually coherent unlike most fighters. I’d recommend changing ‘rounds to win’ to 1 to speed it up (and beginner mode to really speed it up). All you get from it is game currency for unlocks in the krypt and 2 secret chars.

The krypt: cool the first time you go there, then it’s annoying. Looking for specific numbers to unlock is tedious and waiting for the load time for each animation takes forever if your’e just trying to dump like 100k points (each item cost ~1k and is concept art, alt costume, or fatality 2).

Tutorial mode: Not as in depth as street fighters. There aren’t specific ones for each char, just one generic one that tells you the baseline game mechanics and controls.

Practice mode: Pretty much every tool you’l want. Has record/playback, can set super meter to infinite or regular, toggle on/off the HUD, input display. Can set 2nd player to AI, human, or to just stand/duck/jump in place. Block can be set to always, never, or auto like in SF.

Fatality practice mode: Lets you practice fatalities, all chars start with one and a 2nd one is unlocked in the krypt.

VS modes: has 2,3, and 4 player VS. Obviously 3 and 4 player is for tag team vs only.

Online: haven’t gotten to use unfortunately, hopefully netcode is good since it can pretty much make or break the game for most people.

Thats it. There will be no boring or broken game at all for a lot of people if theres a sf4 like netcode. Plus that, balance and features can be added and/or tweaked later, netcode seens to be harder to deal with (at least according with a few producers), so for me the only thing that matters atm is how the game deals with the lag right now. If its good, then we talk about the game itself. If not; good luck everyone, im out.

So any info about the differences between the two versions? (and no I don’t give a fuck about kratos)

Cant find any information on this, and as i have both systems I want the superior version on a technical level. Also I need to order the tournament edition before they run out in my country

I have the PS3 version and I’ll most likely be getting the 360 version tomorrow so I’ll post then unless someone else does.

I’m curious to hear what top players like LI Joe think about this game.

Somewhere in there.

All the big name players seem very displeased.

Ugh, I’m not even bothering with this if online doesn’t work. I have no desire to drive somewhere when I want to play a game. From reading that forum, it seems most are psn.

If you look in that thread you see the reports are still conflicting. I think we need to wait at least a few more days to see and determine if it really is the netcode or if it’s just some asshole in a KotH room with like dial-up or something.

Interestingly, most of the people saying “it’s fine, works great” are XBL players; glad I have an Xbox!

question to those who like it, did any of you also enjoy mkvsdc? i still like that game actually, though online experience on that is terrible.

LensofTruth has a comparison. 360 version has better textures, sharper image. It also has better colors on default. PS3 is blurrier and you need to fix the RGB settings to remove the washed out colors.

Basically, same as always, as a) Unreal engine on 360 and b) Ps3’s AA is always fail.

[19:29] * Topic is ‘MK Netcode = Beyond Ass || #mortalkombat << Get over here. This is #(illuminati hang out place)’

the few guys at TYM that seemed to know what they were talking about, related there was heavy imput delay. A lot of people there cant discern about offline play and playing with imput delay (not much different from here at srk). They hit theirs chain combos and think its alright, those guys will have to play for like 3 months to understand the diferencies between lagless and lagged game (after getting throwed like hell, beeing not able to defend fast moves like sub’s slide or kabal’s rush), after that period they will understand it all better.

Sad that once again an important game comes out with crappy netcode. Even saddier is the fact that the producers selling it as the best netcode ever. The capcom’s guys at least got evasive when talking about the netcode. The mk’s ones simply lied.

Judging by the replies im Hype can`t wait to get my copy

That’s not even remotely close to true. Firstly the only people that know what they’re talking about are only the people that seem to agree with your viewpoint? And capcom outright lied about the netcode in MvC3. They said it was fantastic and much improved. What we actually got was much worse than their last attempt at decent netcode. I’ll reserve my judgement for what I’ve had time to play a decent amount of MK online, but everything I’ve seen so far seems to be people that are playing it before they’re supposed to which could very well be a factor.

the mvc3’s guys said the netcode was “speed of light”, they just said that its delay would be as big as anything that uses electrical or light signals to comunicate. In other words they said there would be no delay hiding technics at all.

About the guys at the TYM, theres people relating imput delay with everyone they play with (some guys relating imput delays against mates from the same state), and others guys just saying “its ok”. One guy said he played from USA with a guy from UK and it was great. Ok, not impossible, but really hard to be, mainly coz the usa-uk guy didnt put in any details on how the matchs felt, hes one of the “its ok” guys.

edit: btw, whats “my point”? im readding what the guys are relating there to get a point, i dont have a predefined ideas or anything. I was hoping the game could finally to allow me to prepare for competitions, once I have no local scene to play with.

The guys relating imput delay just seemed more like creditable fonts than the guys that said it was okay. The “okay guys” gave us no detail at all about how it feels in the matchs.

From Test Your Might

I’m inclined to trust AC1984 as a top player in terms of input lag.
However, we need a higher sample size. Please post up your opinions folks… and only if you’re an input-lag aware person thanks.
