Which could be a way to play Alex, like you’re so sick of EX Hadou random “spam” or EX Slash, random (on wakeup) EX Headbutt that turns into a round winner, or even got smacked by fullscreen EX MGB and turned into this kind of unstoppable freight train that wants to do that too.
EX Chop 2 hitter knockdown corner push GTFO move, EX Stomp tracking with more upward invincibility on wakeup, EX Shoulder ram eat up low pokes footsies & like you saw in the 4rd Stroke, EX powerbomb even? Whatever that did.
What do they do, just spam random raw EX slashes at mid range? Lame…
Nah I’m talking about what modern sf4 players call “the vortex”, where Yang knocks you down, teleports and then keeps owning you over and over switching between: { 1), uoh / standing strong, low short 2) two low shorts / three low jabs 3) command grab, low forward } into EX slashes until you’re stunned and the round is over.
And then with Urien it seems like his combo ability and aegis versatility is endless.
Man, I can’t help but think you’re just being too nice to your opponents. Then if you really try to beat it out without parry dp it can be really confusing. I remember playing Rom at SCR and almost knocking him out of the tournament only to lose to low forward EX slash because I anticipated standing jabs after a quick counter poke.
I also remember the look MOV gave me after I barely lost the match. ;_; Then he followed me to play Karnovs. Was cool.
As a Yang, if I get red parried out of slashes, I will do whatever I can to prevent it happening again. Even if that means empty Cr.MK a couple of times to get people out of the habit of attempting the parry.
at a high level, its never worth it to red parry the first slash especially if it’s jab slash (delayed timing/if blocked it’s safe/if hit, can hit confirm into the 2nd and 3rd slash)
it’s better for the majority of the cast to attempt the 2nd parry cuz it leaves room for a better and much more confident punish
IF you do attempt a red parry at the 1st, you run the risk of running into EX slash which can be continued and trade or beat out certain characters on their counter pokes (best example: vs Dudley, if they red parry EX slash, I can delay the 2nd slash to trade with a st HK)
Soooo in other words, dont red parry the 1st unless it’s vs an average/above average yang player (98% of yang players don’t delay or time their slashes consistently)
I wish we had some Japanese players that don’t give a fuck posting on here. It would be awesome to get some input on this subject from someone like Ino, Kuroda or Nuki. Even Kokujin.
Also, mother fucking Adolfo making the red parry first slash a reality to me. It’s a lot like parrying a fireball after a low forward so I don’t know why that’s a bad idea.
Hey anyone know if Japanese dudes are using Makoto’s TOD on Chun on CPS3? I remember reading that one of the more known Makoto mains saw Telesniper’s video and liked it and meant to try it but I haven’t heard whatever came of that if that was possible on CPS3 or only 3SOE.
ive seen tominaga do it a few times in match videos but it doesnt seem like theres any makoto player who can do it with consistency in japan. (And tominaga is very consistent with double fukiage vs other characters)
So OneFrameLink tweeted that they got some recording equipment for arcades up in Japan and were streaming/recording some 3S, but so far only at Acho Kyoto. Y’all should tweet them on which places they should go to for great 3S arcade action.
You should try asking @DevilJin01 since I recall he plays her in both games.
Game Versus and Game Newton ooyama which also regularly stream out to the world these days.
I heard before from Arturo Sanchez I think on some recording, youtube, stream, podcast or something, when he went to a-cho they had their mysterious all machines are captured hooked up with a closet full of DVR type things, so you could pay a small amount and even get a DVD of your matches that day.
I don’t know why people who asked or what sparked that memory wasn’t expanded on or asked about more. Its like the first time I ever heard of something like that. Usually you only hear they can change out games on demand if you ask, and the awesome repair service of joystick/buttons as needed on the spot.
SF4 Ibuki and the vortex makes no sense to me. Or that silly only in the corner Raida then juggle with SRK kick after for small damage like this is Tekken.
but Sako doing a bunch of shit out of stand strong sure made Cammy look like an easy mode, garbage character in comparison. I guess I already commented towards louis and his watching EVO Haitani Makoto vs mash some SRK Cammy’s.
I haven’t seen anyone in Japan (or anywhere else) do it other than Tominaga and one other person that uploaded a video of it.
In some casuals a while back, Tomi landed it on Nuki maybe 3 times out of 8-10 matches. He wasn’t 100% consistent as he got the chance a few other times but didn’t execute. IMO the problem with Tomi’s (and maybe others potentially) consistency with it is that he delays his dash after SA2 everytime, this leads to finicky results at best…
Another reason it’s not happening more often (that we can see anyway) IMO, is because lately there seems to be a distinct lack of Chuns (and SA2 Maks…) besides Nuki at Touzaisens.
AE Ibuki does not have better footsies than 3S Ibuki. You are insane if you believe that.
3S Ibuki has a significantly higher walk speed than AE Ibuki and her normals have much better hitboxes and hurtboxes. Her mobile normals also move her farther and place her in better positions, on top of most or all of her normals having better frame data.
Anyway, 3S Ibuki and AE Ibuki are two entirely different creatures. In 3S, you play with your mind entirely focused on conditioning and mixup pressure, both of which heavily revolve around the concept of manipulating an actual human opponent. In AE, Ibuki players place an incredibly strong emphasis on a biased vortex. That means she is doing her damndest to push you into a 50/50 situation and then bias it in her favor with very heavy use of safe jumps and option selects to tilt the odds in her favor, mixed in with the normal frametrap/blockstring/combo heavy play of AE. In other words, she is trying her hardest to make you unplug your controller and roll weighted dice.
3S Ibuki is trying to manipulate your inputs and force you into “walking into” her hits, which carries significant risk.
AE Ibuki is trying to eliminate your inputs and attempts to crush you with sheer force of pressure, which carries comparatively little risk.
An entertaining aspect of it that was probably accidental when they put Ibuki in SF4 is that they swapped out where most of her risk lies. In 3S it’s not too risky for Ibuki to be at range, as she has very good tools for closing range on her opponents and dodging/parrying most things. So her approaches carry relatively little risk compared to AE Ibuki, it’s once she is in that she puts herself and her opponent in dangerous situations. In AE, her approaches are the most risky part of her play. That is quite literally the most dangerous part of a round for AE Ibuki, the approach. She has weak closing tools and her opponents have strong keep-out tools. Without proper walk speeds, mobile normals, or parry she is left in a bit of a predicament to get close, but once she is in close she can essentially attempt to style on her opponents compared to most other AE characters.
Most of the differences are the result of the different game engines and the lack of parry on the metagame. Some of what I stated is stuff that applies to more characters than just Ibuki too.
3S Ibuki and AE Ibuki are just two different characters, ignore the similarities in character appearance and name.
So, how about Hugo vs Chun notes? I’ve gotten a lot better at doing 360’s and 720’s and thought it might be fun to use Hugo more. Seems like SA1 is the way to go against her and his game is to try to poke her with MP and Sweep, get in, get a knockdown or corner pressure and land those grabs.
Love TheShend, dude has been like the only guy in recent memory still uploading shit from Japan. I remember breaking up with some bitch back when I was 16 and stupid as fuck, feeling super down then I checked my youtube subs and of course the latest vid was some hype japan action uploaded by him with this Ryu player who literally did all the high level shit.
I was once up a round a half on JP Pherai, with Ibuki.
If I didn’t distract myself with “I can’t do Dragon Punch with right down down right” I might’ve stopped a 15 win streak he had going with this game somewhere in the middle of that streak. I don’t know why I wanted the silly, later shown as a penguin (costume in pocket fighter) kick, reverse DP since I was on the 2p side of the screen anyway and how this was so important to try over and over until I got it, but I wanted to know if I could at least DP if I needed it. I kept super jumping back into my own corner during these attempts, so he followed and killed me.
And uh yesterday online some Ibuki totally only did Ibuki in SF4 stuff, “vortex” kunai, continue over & land to crossup, LPMPHP target combo, slide neckbreak 2 times, corner push raida. He got a perfect. I tried to back strong the kunai with Q to move his hitbox, but he got pulled back in. So I might’ve helped him do the SF4 stuff!
Bonus, last time I looked up any SF4 stuff on a whim, Vega had some unblockable on Ibuki from some ‘nothing-she-could-do about-it’ forced wakeup frames, in the bad coding by Capcom. He could hit a full Ultra in that position after the right (hard) knockdown timing setup.
