General 3S/3S OE Thread. NO DISCUSSING REBALANCE, unless you like INFRACTIONS!

If they designed 3rd Strike with online play in mind (in 1999) we wouldn’t have the same game we have today. Everything would be much slower and parry/reversal/input leniency would be huge.

That or we’d be living in Japan and have good internet connections that could handle the game as it is.

Actually, if they designed 3s with online play in mind they would have made it faster. Unless you mean they designed a game that played the same both offline and online. I thought we all agreed that wasn’t possible, not just for 3s but for any game that was played in real time?

Ah, I see what you mean. I was thinking far too idealistically.

seems this may be the, “let your opinions be heard” thread…so, man, site looks different, lol. haven’t been around since 05-06’ maybe…for some reason, I ran into some SF vids on youtube last week and bought SF3OE, lol. Forgot how awesome this game still is. Not caring about rankings or anything, I jumped right in and damn, got my ass handed to me. Went 5-15 during the day, went drinking, came back, went 0-5 at night. Some guys out there are complete beats, handing me a perfect in 11-13 seconds, lol. O well, good fun!

Grabbing this from that other thread. I thought it was in here to begin with. “General 3s talk” and all

So is GTA like 3s and it will never work on computers too? They only make it to work correctly/best version on console… whoops. Guess the analogy:example fell apart. Maybe you can be a scumbag and do arcade-like gameplay in GTA I guess.

Anyway, just saw this on newegg. Maybe the graphic artist was a fan.
& Maybe 12 need a 16 GB of RAM install. More memory.

Maybe Ibuki mains can help me out with this:

I was thinking of how the 3S cast made the transition to SF4 and how that went down. And I think Makoto is the only character that plays like her 3S counterpart with only some tweaks for SF4 (armored EX Karakusa…). Dudley is not Dudley. SF4 Dudley is a MUGEN Dudley or just another boxer inspired by 3S Dudley. Twins don’t play like their 3S counter parts at all. Yun’s Upkicks are a good AA last time I checked and Genei Jin isn’t nearly as strong. Yun in SF4 (at least before the 2012 patch) played more like a good version of SA1 Yun. For Yang they just added Jab links into Rekka and improved his rolling kick (I think it’s safe on block). But I’m thinking of Ibuki and if she plays like 3S Ibuki or not.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really “get” Ibuki at all. Playing GGPO Ibuki’s -ignoring jab, jab, jab, jab online blockstrings- it doesn’t seem like she has a real footsie game. It seems like she just does shit, try to get in, once she’s in combo into EX or fake them out and land SA1 or chip kill them. SF4 Ibuki on the other hand seems like she has a better footsie game and is more about landing the hard knockdown and going into the vortex.

Ibuki user here. I would be arrogant to even say I’m even a passable Ibuki but I think I can say some general differences. She doesn’t really play too much like 3S Ibuki but that is okay because I feel SF4 Ibuki is (in general) a better character with different tools.

She still has the same weak ground game and footsie game but Neckbreaker is much more useful in SF4 than SF3 since it is a threat outside of combos and can punish whiffed sweeps and the like. Ibuki’s footsie game is still bad, but it isn’t 3S bad. Now she can fight Chun instead of getting bullied by her for 90 seconds. (Chun is also free to Vortex.)

While you can argue this is due to Vortex shenanigans, Ibuki’s options in SF4 are expanded imo. She can do real damage now even with no vortex and her DP while still terrible, is a real DP now and not something there to trick Ibuki users into using it as an AA. The damage on her normal moves is incredible, she is really strong. Her run away kunai game is stronger save for the fact that you can’t parry them and that EX breaks focus.

Like with a lot of characters, I feel Ibuki better for the simple fact that her really basic stuff is much easier to pull off now. She isn’t that character who suffers from the terrible mixture of being “Really Technical but not even that good” (That honor goes to Dudley) like she did in 3S. Ibuki is still not an easy character to learn despite what Cody players will tell you lol but she isn’t as hard as she was in 3S. Her links, cancels and everything more or less transferred over from 3S but they’re easier. Ibuki really became more 3S like during the AE Balance patch as they gave her the ability to cancel cr.HK into F.St.HK. I love SF4 Ibuki, I really do.

She doesn’t benefit from the focus system outside of basic corner mixups but the focus system doesn’t kill her like Guile or Dhalsim.

TL:DR Ibuki is a different character but she still has better tools overall imo and she is easier than 3S.

i guess i’m done with ibuki.
i can’t anymore.

no idea who i should use now.

That chick in your av is hot

what is her name

edit: nvm found her name, emily ratajkowski

Also, why are you changing chars? Ibuki is not very limited at all. Good variety of high priority pokes, ways in from in front, below, above and around. Good keep away game.

I think the only things she is lacking is a quick and long reaching cancelable normal like shoto cr mk and more health.

i’m not sure what my problem all of a sudden is, but i just can’t do anything with her anymore.

i don’t know what i’m doing anymore and it’s frustrating the fuck out of me.

i keep asking for advice in ggpo but people tell me different shit. “you’re too aggressive”, “you’re too defensive”, “you’re not intimidating”, “you don’t poke enough”, etc, etc, etc.

it’s become a chore to play her and it’s not even fun anymore. all that happens is the round starts and i immediately get pissed.

i really thought i had a grasp on her but now i can barely apply pressure and keep momentum. my defense is trash as well. if you get me in the corner, game over.

Sounds fishy.

sounds like we got ourselfs a quit-terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :nono: - MTV I Used to be Fat

i lied, i’m not quittin’.
i think i say every day, “fuck this game, i’m done”.

anyway…the problem is me.
i need to study more.

edit: sometimes after doing ibuki’s lp, mp, hp tc > srk combo, i get the command dash instead of the srk. i can’t figure out why since i’m practicing on mame without command input.

gonna assume you’re talking about back mp -> hp tc since there isn’t a lp mp hp tc. you don’t have to have the stick in back for the hp part of the tc if that helps to get out your srk kicks. also make sure you got the srk motion down 100% without the combo.

Losing can be very frustrating especially when its not even a close fight. I find it extra frustrating when online. like you said takes studying + practice. it might also help to play shorter sets that are more mindful instead of long sets where it starts to become frustrating and it becomes harder to pinpoint your mistakes. Play a short set, and think about your mistakes and how you got hit.

been playing ST lately and I’ve been getting tore up in that game so I think I understand your frustrations to some extent.

huh? nah there’s definitely a LP, MP, HP target combo, lol. I’ve been doing it for the past 40 minutes. but i found out i can just negative edge the srk, which is great. i still need to get used to the slight pause i need to take when crossing up with her ex kunai, though. the weird thing with me is, the srk motion is nothing to me outside of a combo but the moment i need to end a combo with an srk, it goes down the drain 40% of the time.

even though i know it’s ggpo and the netcode is shitty, i still get unreasonably mad. i mean, i don’t mind being out played. fine, whatever…but when i lose because of an execution error (i know, practice more then) or something weird (Ibuki’s f+mk hopping over the opponent or cl.hk flipping sides), i want to snap my neck. and don’t even get me started on when i’m unable to adapt, that’s the worst feeling.
short sets seem to work for me.

i actually see you on ggpo a lot, we should play sometime if we have reasonable ping. we played the other night but i think it was just a couple games.

i support your decision, ibuki is lame

Ibuki is just weird. I don’t get her at all. She’s not like Rolento or Gen in terms of weirdness but fairly weird character.

some players simply do not respect the non written rules of us 3s gentlemen
every wake up is followed by a special or random low/high blocking or a normal
they simply never block,they want to do something A S A P
that’s specially true online when it’s harder / impossible to meaty and other stuff

yes, every now and again it’s not wrong to get up with a good fast poke or a multihits special or a blocking
but not all the time and without even thinking about what you’re doing
you can tell they are not playing like sentient beings
aaaaand, true : wake up blockings are always a bit random
but you can at least try to put some thought into it by looking at your opponent meter bar etc etc

well, anyway, those players are always attracted to certain characters
ibuki is one of those characters
partly it’s the nature/style of the character (silly standing jabs + other great pokes and all her gimmicky stuff) but part of the blame is to be put on the players themselves
elena, remy and others are honorable mentions and easily as annoying

it’s pretty nice to play vs a respectful, intelligent remy or ibuki or oro
just not very likely to happen

eh . i can record wav files and convert them to mp3s
but no clue on how to join multiple wavs / mp3s

btw , http://www.sendspace.com/file/fnjtpq

I have to block on wakeup, I main Alex. :frowning:

it’s nice that you mention all of that, Fran.

i’m trying to break out of that shitty mold and become an actual player and not a mindless autopilot drone.
it’s difficult to do that when all i have to play on is online. playing online, as we all know, really, really sucks. i don’t like having to predict every single little thing.
i was playing with this guy once and he was giving me advice, “you kinda need to do things sooner than you would when you play on ggpo” - dawg, i can’t play like that it makes no sense to me.

sorry for posting a paragraph every time i post, i’ve been up all night and i’m bored. plus, i enjoy talking to you guys.
