General 3S/3S OE Thread. NO DISCUSSING REBALANCE, unless you like INFRACTIONS!

You don’t really need to partition to start having some success with urien.
eventually of course you want to do all that jazz but if you’re thinking about TTH, it’s more buffering. the headbutt will come out pretty much automatically as long as you got the tackles to connect, no real timing involved with the charges for that aside from buffering. the headbutt is a partition i guess, doesn’t have to be probably, but its not a partition you can mess up is what i mean.

Best I can do is Launcher, LK Shoulder, st.HP. If I use EX Shoulder I can do another LK Shoulder and MP Fireball. It’s not an absolutely critical thing when playing Urien but it’s definitely something you have to know at high level.

just work on buffering better.

I suspect the first step towards good Urien play is knowing how to get damage without guessing all the time. A lot of Uriens online struggle getting damage outside of guess on wakeup or dash throw I think.

But online Uriens receive a massive Headbutt and Aegis buff so I feel no pity for them.

If you can’t do the headbutt finisher, stick with standing fierce. It does more damage than tackle or headbutt anyways. Or you could do standing strong reset to go for a mix up afterwards.

TTHP > TTH

anyway, this might deserve a “welcome to 2000” response but fuck it :

for some reason a fellow local player really wanted to find the “danger !” voice sample
he asked me about it and i said "it’s prolly in the voice collection track of the ost"
no
so i went to look for it in the sound test of the board . it’s at [f767]

i then found a few unused announcer bits like “don’t you want a rematch” or “you need to practice more” [fe95 , fe9a]

but i was absolutely astounded when i stumbled upon all the unused x-copy stuff
i find that 12’s garbled voice during x-copy is the only cool thing about that character
sometimes i actually pick x-copy 12 just to listen to those funny sounds

in the game,it’s obviously limited to grunts, special moves and win poses
at [fab5] you can hear “the mark of my dignity…” in full glorious x-copy voice
but they’re all there : “let’s fight like gentlemen” , “sorry i’m late” etc etc

so i wonder…was 12 at some point going to be like marionette in vampire sav ?
that would have been MEGA - the ultimate troll / hardest to master character
for those not familiar with marionette > http://capcom.wikia.com/wiki/Marionette
in other words, every match is a mirror match and how BAD-ASS is that ?!

why did they have to ditch that splendid idea and turn him into…what he is é_é

Or maybe like a mokujin type deal. Randomly is a different character start of each round.

Well, Twelve is already the hardest character in the game to master in his own right. He’s just not very fun.

It feels like he’d be pretty amazing in Marvel though. Or hell, even a Darkstalkers game. I don’t know much about it, but I hear anyone who can air dash is sick.

From what I’ve noticed, anytime you push a button with Urien, you should be buffering something. I can buffer a tackle after a sphere. On a jumping opponent who doesn’t air parry, I can do MP.Sphere MK.Tackle EX.Tackle LK.Tackle S.HP. On a standing opponent, I can do Launcher LK.Tackle LP.Sphere EX.Headbutt MK.Tackle *.

Urien for some reason makes my hand hurt.

you always want to be able to do moves when you want to. you do that by always having charges ready. which means you are almost always charging something or holding a charge.

goes for every charge character.
partitioning maximizes potential.

I think with Remy the difference is a lot larger than urien just due to the kinds of moves urien has. If you can’t partition with Remy you pretty much aren’t a threat.

I apologize in advance for being “that guy who asks about Daigo in 3S” but I’m kinda curious. when did he stop playing and how good was he (relative to the competition) when he stopped?

It might be hard to find someone on these boards who played back then. From what I can tell he stopped playing shortly after winning SBO. Pyro was recently telling me about playing him and it sounded like he was cream of the crop in his day. It’s still pretty rare to see a Ken player do something like tag the edge of Yun’s c.mk with dai shoryu x jinrai, especially in a big tournament.

I think Daigo took a break around 06 or something like that? And came out of retirement when SF4 came out. Damn shame we never got a Kuroda/Daigo match. But from what I understand is that he was good but he still wasn’t on par with MOV and Kuroda.

there’s a lot of 3rd Strike podcasts that seem to have disappeared from the internet. I’d like to make a quick list, and see if any of you guys have them saved somewhere and can reupload. here’s the stuff I’m aware of.

Ask Dr Sub Zero (podcast) - some of these were reuploaded on Youtube, however most of them seem to have disappeared.

Ask Dr Sub Zero (show) - I think these were pulled down about a year ago. I’m thinking of the first few, before they went official with Twitch or whoever it was. one of these had a Pyrolee guest episode in someone’s garage as I recall. that one was pretty neat.

the podcasts Gootecks did to raise money for SBO - 5 star and Pyrolee episodes are still on Youtube, I think the rest have disappeared.

Third Strike Junkies podcasts - I believe the Renic episode is still on his Youtube channel, I’m not sure if the rest are still around. the domain appears to have expired recently.

Podcast with Ryan/Yuuki/Pherai - I think these are all still uploaded on Ryan’s Youtube channel so no one needs to track these down.

are there others I’m missing? it would be cool if we could get some of them reuploaded and a few of us to save them. very cool resources I think. anyone have any of these stashed somewhere?

Something a little off topic than what you are all were discussing…
What is the big deal with evilryu78? I saw that he is extremely hated and that he is the highest ranked player on SF3:OE. I guess I’m just a little in disbelief that the dude is number one, but gets spanked by a lot of good players(including me(?)). Oh well… I guess online ranking is not the true equivalent to a person skill then.

Online doesn’t matter.

Which is why I still go to my local arcade to play 3rd Strike, even if my only opposition is low level Yun’s who get salty and run away to the Marvel cab when I beat them.

Even in ideal situations online is different.
Just don’t say that around Exodus or he will take it personally.

Nothing about 3S makes me more sad than activating Seiei-Enbu and watching Akuma teleport.

TT_TT

you should be using sa2 against akuma, no exceptions. 1 frame reversal that also goes under projectiles? more stock for a safe, high stun move? you’re giving that up for seiei enbu against akuma? come on man.
