General 3S/3S OE Thread. NO DISCUSSING REBALANCE, unless you like INFRACTIONS!

I found some images again, saved off of the Internet here, that may have to do with 3rd Strike in some way. The part about teaching that other guy the terms of the game, which I looked at to try to find for some new Akuma player once around here too. There was a terrible definition of frame trap or something, from the SRK’s newbie section glossary of terms. Maybe even an important one like “Link.”

Or maybe this is just from my losing and inexperienced side of things too I don’t know.

So lets talk that out. You can’t really just claim you know what you’re doing just to fit in. Maybe that is where you want to be later, battle hardened and tough. People can take one look at you and know right away you can play this game. You want to be in that arcade/venue with players who have a bunch of experience. And without that you’re kinda soft.

Playing alone/CPU/training mode is like skipping the steps of being punched in the face by others. But of course some people that only play others to get better probably plateau if they don’t use training/video/frame data supplements and some people that are experienced sometimes are stuck with only playing training/CPU sometimes.

I made the quick analogy that this game will punch you in the face before, but of course that meant others beating you really decisively, by stopping everything you tried to do and being 3 steps ahead of you with their reads.

Now we don’t want that part with the game is for 2 players and some guy is going to hog the game and only play CPU when he has a buddy right next to him, or only 1 controller and they have to take turns and can’t play eachother.

If they have the itch to play during the week in preparation for the weekly event, GGPO to connect to eachother should be fine before they are fed to the monsters<-- whatever version and idea of monsters you have of GGPO, and those experienced players.

They might notice the differences between that locally connecting and being offline in person too.

And the workaround to prevent trolling by non players with closing the lobby window or however you do it, could be important to create the private room connection.

Its very important that they learn “GG’s” means “Good Games!” someone told me GG’s once offline and not the full words and I didn’t know what the hell that guy was talking about and didn’t think he knew what’s up, also he played like Tweleve said in jest:

“When someone looks like they’re playing GGPO when they’re offline, that’s jungle”

I thought I was just going to post the comics since everyone said everything needed and not simply look like I’m complaining about GGPO again. :wasted:

that would be really sick! it can be done. if any of you guys wanna come visit I’ll make sure you have a place to stay.

@Ryan

I was serious about the “shit talk” question regarding Japanese players and respect within the scene.

There’s player banter that gets thrown back and forth I’m sure. Even a bit of teasing that goes on by some of the commentators it seems.

How is it different from the USA flavour?
Do the Japanese guys have the same obsession with calling each other homos?
Is racism even an issue?

Edit: Didn’t mean to hijack your other thread. That blockhead totally missed the point and I felt I had to respond.

ggpo is totally fine to learn basics with and keep people engaged/interested.
if you are playing local people online your connections should be pretty nice, and as long as they are stable (completely unlike dander’s) the experience is fine.

just at some point you want to move on to better things where the nuance and more subtle play can really take shape. which imo is a lot easier to learn and feel offline, and even more so on cps3. but for understanding the core concepts of 3S its fine. to master them however i think you need to really play offline.

Yeah that was my main concern with ggpo. There’s those small details that get lost online. But yeah I agree. There’s probably more to gain there than to mess you up. If its supplemented by offline sessions and we understand the reasons it’s different I think we can all get some use out of it.

It’s nice to have a ggpo presence too. Random alaska guys show up on ggpo, we’ll have an opportunity to pull them into the offline scene.

I used to play so much GGPO that I thought the Powerbomb was a good command grab…

The Stomp is totally legit though.

I just realized that when we used to play at regency and ffa, the best hours for high level play were normally after curfew.

What an interesting realization.

So…uhh…what are we talking about here?

It’s totally up to you Bob, as the sort of Alaskan captain of 3rd Strike.

If you are very clear about the limitations and bad tendencies that GGPO can bring then why not feed their hunger to play when y’all aren’t together. Offline play should be the base to work from. Give them examples of how something that seems to work on GGPO with a little lag is just dumb and exploitable offline.

I will talk about this in Ryan’s stream thread with a Ryan story, Nuki is maybe the #2 3rd Strike troll of all time, and something about ROM.

After anyone else wants to pimp their stream out, of course. Where Harmonaz/Deemo those guys play, or the Brasil gatherings, and more.

Oh yeah, and this one is late, but it might be okay, Funland?!

WT FUCK YOU AKUMA HAX

“Yo Adrian, look at these bricks! Solid construction on these bricks. I like this house and these bricks…”

Why can’t I follow what you’re saying these days. Very strange.

;_;

Japanese players don’t really talk shit at all in a face to face manner. They will compliment. Top players always talk strategy instead!

Of course they will joke and razz people a little, but it’s all in good fun.

Now I don’t really know about behind the back or anonymous internet shit talk so I can’t really comment on that.

American players get too butthurt and have too much pride. Unless youre playing vs Boss or Nuki, when you lose you auto think the other guys a faggot lol.

Nah, it’s just that the other guy is always a faggot. I don’t think it has anything to do with losing.

@Dander

Look Dander, you don’t know what it’s like. I’m the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And I’m not out of order! You’re out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can’t handle the truth! 'Cause when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo that was your best friend’s face, you’ll know what to do! Forget it Dander, it’s Chinatown!

It must be because I copied Louis’s’ bipolar half. The good/nice one. You know he was going to put that other one you said in his sig or something and parade me around to the yatagarasu campaign thread, completely out of context about the GGPO that they were trying to get in their game and I actually put some full price game money in so they could get that. Now my good name is probably slandered forever!

Oldass movies. Rocky. He wanted to buy that house, because of the nice bricks he saw right away walking up the front porch.

louiscipher staple, the youtube.

STFU Scrub-a-nub.

HAX, I would buy a bitty chippy rip off game from her fo sure. She can reverse Crack Shoot me any day.

lightly punches wall this was a great house, but now it’s falling apart. I’d be falling apart too if I was 100 years old
