He’s a dick. That’s why necro has a lady friend and he doesn’t.
I used to think he was just stupid and weird. But having used him a decent amount for the past while i’ve grown to like him and all his really neat normals.
i bet you hate him because far strong is da chun li killaaaaaaa.
I was thinking recently maybe they intended him to be kind of weak because he’s supposed to be one of a bunch (twelve?) of cloned soldiers. Like he’s not as much a character as a type of thing.
Imagine though… Twelve can just shapeshift to a guy with a 13 incher. Of course Necro is stretchy so you never know.
Necro got dat electric snake tho.
I think they like his vocal talents. the stretchyness and electricity is a surprise later. he strikes me as a charmer.
I like bit arty and chip tuney projects. Not everything has to be innovative to be enjoyable. You guys are jerks.
I clicked the link, they made Terry Bogard into a girl. Its wrong Funland!
Seems kinda like the ‘turn every SFighter character into MegaMan sprites,’ for fun and some profit, but it was made into that SF x Megaman game later. And surprisingly that game was free.
it’s cool, i hope it still works out for them and like i said, anyone working to make something is OK in my book.
i’m not saying innovation is necessary.
i feel ‘in the style of’ is like cheating creatively. lifting all the original art director and music producer’s work is not very cool to me.
dude akumahax the guy from 2 stupid dogs is something i still remember VIVIDLY.
no one else seems to.
Meh, I’d pay for just for the frame data bar and buffer system.
Yo, CPU Ken is the best way to train for Parries. Also the experience is eerily like playing randoms on 3SOE.
Question for everyone, especially you guys with experience in local offline scenes.
There’s a few local players who are interested in 3rd Strike. They play other competitive games but have limited fighting game experience and no 3rd Strike experience. So far I’ve talked to them about how it works, shown them videos, set up FBA and loaned them arcade sticks.
So what should I be doing now, as far as helping them level up and keeping them interested? Just leave them to their own for a few weeks? Suggest video watching material?
GGPO might be more convenient on some nights than having them come over. Do you think GGPO early on is going to be detrimental to their growth or will it not really matter that much?
You’re doing things a lot more active than I’ve ever done, but I guess my own tips would be…
-If you’re down and they’re down, do offline sessions frequently! I think building a sense of community helps tremendously with keeping people coming back.
-I don’t see any reason to tell them to back off from GGPO
I think some of the other concerns you have might fall into place once you got the guys together playing offline. Talk about the game when you aren’t playing and gauge peoples interests in improving. I learned a lot from just shooting the shit with better players after the arcade had closed, discussing good matches to watch, our games from the night, etc.
GGPO LATER, WAAAAAAY LATER. I’ll let the cool kids tell you why. It’s better if you hear it from them, anyway. But if I may chime in before then, I think it’d be better to consider ggpo later because you want them to have a consistent base to draw from before they go the teleport and skippy route. There are no tween frames on ggpo, at least for me, and I can’t imagine that will help with their timing given that they only get the middle keyframe as a visual hint and the music is constantly skipping too. That’s what transition frames are for, visual cuing.
As for what you should be doing? You should be playing with them. I guess it would be cool for them to actually play and learn the basics their own way but you should be helping them fine tune their game up to the point that they have left off. You can still stand to play the low forward game and they will need that help in order to be proficient at the game.
Then after sometime playing with them, you will see how useless the low forward game is unless you use Chun Li. Which you do…so maybe you won’t.
edit: Well, maybe not useless as it will be detrimental? Like, it’ll act as a crutch like you so eloquently said before.
Just like anything in life…
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
If they are really interested in 3rd Strike then there is no reason to tell them not try online play like ggpo or OE. Unless you guys are having offline sessions daily with a big playerbase in which case there’s no reason to play online.
Thanks fellas. The way things are shaping up, I think we’ll have ~8 regulars from week to week for now. So maybe not a big playerbase, but a stable one. Varying skill levels but I think if everyone is really into it that should disappear over time. I’m hoping to aim for offline sessions every weekend, and see if anyone is interested in playing over the week. I suppose it’s not useful to make grand sweeping plans yet anyway. It’ll develop naturally however it’s going to develop. It would be really sick to have offline sessions 5-7 days a week, but we’ll see how it goes.
Godamn 5-7! That’s heaven right there.
Man if you have 5-7 people with all equal love and interest to improve and play 5 times a week… Damn sounds like 2005 all over again. (tear in my eye)
5 days a week!!! I wish.
I’m lucky if the 3-7 people I’ve gathered can get together once a week.
before you know it people from socal will be booking flights to alaska. can me and ryan get a smoking igloo?
