I wonder how much EVO costs if you include staying at a room there? Every year around may I get the itch to just say fuck it and go, but I literally have no one to go with so I always psych myself out.
I stayed at the Hooters casino and hotel for 250$ for 6 days, 7 nights. Like 50$ a night. This was in 2010. The room and hotel was fine, pool and and all that. 5 minute walk to Caesars but I don’t mind. If you wanna stay at a fancy hotel then it’s like double that.
I would go again if plane tickets were cheaper.
Daaaaamn I wish I could go
I just bought a $3.50 controller for PC lol! had to buy a marked down damaged pad lol! went home opened it up and gentized it, so I can continue my lab work lol
I’ll be there. Last time at Final Round we had the kinda designated ‘street fighter room/salty suite’; I don’t know who will have it this time but I’d like to play some other Gen players this time. I’m rooming with some of the other top players from Texas and we always have lots of casuals / money/shot matches going on, but i’d be more interested in just sparring with another Gen.
I’ve been getting people’s heads crazy with the forward throw, (kara) dash, (PPP) c.mp/c.lp (little walk up with c.lp), j.mk. Noticed it’s hard to make a 3 frame DP whiff, since it hits on autocorrect. On every char with a 4+ frame DP, go nuts. Make sure you press back once, so you backdash on reaction if it gets blocked. You’ll be pretty safe to counters on the ground due to airborne frames.
So, I’m thinking at Evo, I’m gonna be picking Gouken or Ryu to deal with Gen’s shitty matchups, like Guile, Sim, Rose, etc. Ryu is just solid all around but I feel Gouken does really well against all the characters that give Gen trouble. Ryu gets shit on by Sim and partially by Guile so although he’s overall a very solid character, I feel he’s not quite what I’m looking for (counters to terrible matchups.) Anyone else rocking Team Geriatric?
I’m sticking with Gen all the way, shitty match-up or not. I might play Gouken in casuals since he’s still my secondary.
What are some things I need to know about Gen? I just picked him up today
A ton of people feel Ryu-Sim is close to even (still Sim-favoured) nowadays. The real bitch is Fei Long.
Fei Long matchup is not exactly difficult for me, but rather boooooring. All defensive, neutral jumps, focus. When I feel like playing like that, I do win, but many times I get really bored and start doing unsafe things… Fei Long is very good at punishing mistakes but has no real aces against Gen… the rekka is not as dangerous at it was in 2011 AE. I hate the matchup because it makes me play in a way I don’t like
I respect those who have a main and never, ever cover counterpicks, Itazan is my hero for that.
Also. What if the best Mantis combo from hitconfirm cr.LPs?
I don’t really feel like I need an alt when I can play gen so well though. Can’t think of any match-up that is actuallt ‘terrible’ for Gen either in AE. I dislike playing against Bisons and Balrog though, if they corner you it’s a real pain in the ass.
My personally horrible MU is probably Ibuki because she’s a major bullshit character. Hurr durr look at me I’m a stupid teenage ninja who only needs one knockdown into HURRURURURURURURURURLOLSTUNNEDTRY AGAIN NEXT ROUND. Stupid bitch.
/salt
Yeah I get sick of all this vortex bullshit. But most Ibuki players have no answer to Focus backdashing. So it’s good.
And I’m with your there. Gen has no matchups that are worthy of a counterpick. I despise Guile, but if I play slow and take no risks. I can get the win with little effort.

[]You have incredible normals. You can play footsies with the best, if not better
[]Never use EX moves if you don’t have to. Gen pretty much has the best super in the game.
[]Use U2 Against Fireball characters. U1 against everyone else.
[]Move around in Crane
[*]Crossup Ogas all day

Man, Xian sure landed in a rough Evo pool…
really
Though luck.
But if he can make it, he has a good shot at repping the old man throughout the top 8 =)
where is the link to the pools

I recently realized that my Gen is doing virtually no damage after I use cr.LP in crane stance. The one I usually do is cr.LP -> cr.LP -> cr.MP interruptable blockstring or something similar to it. Therefore, I decided to practice a new string:
crane cr.LP -> mantis st.LP -> TC2
I feel it’s combining crane’s walkspeed with mantis’ awesome normals & TC. I know crane cr.LP -> mantis st.LP is just an 1f link and is difficult to pull off, but I realized that Vega players do those all the time, so I didn’t see why not if I happen to use it.
