Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

that’s a good point. I’ll try to practice it, too in the training

Man, trying to play Gen drunk is frustrating. It just happens most of our regular fight nights are at bars or casuals at people’s places where we end up drinking.

It is however, satisfying to know that even when wasted I can nail Gen’s 1 framer like 99% of the time. Gimme dat muscle memory

Playing Gen in the most humid room in history, Dying of thirst whilst getting bodied online.

My god. My salt levels…

how do you get bodied online? you are playing Gen son!

man he’s got to deal with Ryan Hart and Kindevu… shit I hope he makes it he definitely has a good chance of beating both, it’ll be tough though. I really want him to make it through- its a long climb up from losers bracket
why is Xian’s pool so damn tough? I look at Daigo’s pool and it looks like he’ll just blaze through them :frowning:

Out of curiosity…

How do you all do your cr.MP > Hands?

piano (cr. mp-lp-lp-mp-hp) or slide

I just piano c.mp~hp~mp~hp~hp, easy as hell. Only need two fingers and two buttons.

Slide MP HP LP MP HP. Piss easy on my pad.

mp, lp, mp, lp, hp.

I don’t like slide method for Gen, since you have to get HP hands to ‘do stuff’ with it like FADC/Super. It’s not such a problem for characters like Blanka who I think all the regular electricities have same properties. Slide too inconsistent for me.

Each version of electricity has different frame data, like + on block, start-up, etc.

I don’t think slide method is for me either; I seem to get EX every time.

Piano MP HP LP MP HP. Piss easy on my stick.

Yeah after a while I decided I find:

mp, lp, mp, lp, hp

The easiest. Leaves 2 fingers free for FADC and the ring finger in place to TC2 after the FADC or whatever. Just find it easy as pie.

So i’m a fucking idiot, this whole time I’ve been doing cross up ogas by holding down back, then doing pseudo-hcf, hold slight on the forward then up kick. I just realized you can just hold down forward, then just do forward, uf+k. 100% easier >.<

I feel like my pool is pretty easy, no big names or seeded players although there is a random japanese player I didn’t recognize. Kyabetsu? Some japanese viper, which annoys me cause Viper is one of the matches I loathe most in this game, barring maybe Fuerte.

You see a Japanese flag = trouble

Joke aside, Kyabetsu is #1 Viper in Japanese arcades. He got the 4th place in the recent Topanga 2 B League.

meaning, suit up and take the ass whooping coming your way like a man!!!

You got pooled with Kyabetsu?

Holy shit…I hope you can block.

Hell naw, you gotta be confident. If you put pros on a pedestal and think “no way I can beat this guy” then you’re doing their work for them by mindfucking yourself. I gotta send him home empty-handed, having nightmares of geriatric assassins.

On ‘real talk’ though I’m fortunate enough to have one of the best vipers in the U.S. here to practice with, so I’m gonna have to get some matches in real soon.

Well we will all be rooting for you. Make him look free and give no fucks.

I like fighting viper as gen though. That match-up feels really even to me because gen can evade burnkicks easily + his super and ultra makje sure viper can’t do obvious burnkicks. Also ez oga cross-ups lol.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to work on that viper unblockable too.

I see a couple canadians in my pool too, which, while I don’t think canadian players are universally amazing or something, it makes me think that if someone came all the way from Canada to play they must be pretty confident in their skills. I’ll have to be sending plenty of people home empty handed it seems
