Ah didn’t know he could do that, thought they got rid of things like that in Super. Nice to know U2 beats that.
yeah, i thought it was out too, but apparently seth still has it to some degree.
sometimes you can land and block, and take the garaunteed chip damage. others it grabs you for full damage. not sure what the stipulations are for it to hit you.
ive been hit without pressing a button in the air. dunno whats up, but U2 avoids the whole situation
Hey guys, I keep coming back to Gen but now that I have a lot more solid fundamentals in the game, I feel he’s a lot more potent. Of course, this could be said about anyone, but yeah.
Anyways, I was wondering three things mainly right now. What’s the best kara throw and setup for it? I was doing it ken style out of nature (with s.mk) but I was curious if there’s another? Mostly I’ve been doing it out of blockstrings, I tried doing it from s.mp but it seems the pushback is too far.
What’s the best/preferred way you guys do hands combos? Particularily out of pokes like cr.mp? I’ve tried doing both the slide and ‘piano method’ (by doing cr.mp , lp, mp, lp, hp). The slide method just feels nooby to me, but I don’t know, maybe I’m doing it wrong.
Lastly, what are the best setups for crossup oga? Is there any universal one? Forward throw?
Thank ye kindly
I’m no way as good as the experts of this forum but I’ll give you my opinions
- I think the best kara throw is the Mantis st. MK one. Also st. HP works but the former one is better…
- hand combos? I do the slide method. I can piano, too… but somehow I grew used to slide. Pianoing is better for fadc, I think.
- the best cross up for oga? It’s rather character specific. I personally came to like one that works with Mantis U2. It’s very simple: land the ultra and then EX oga on the opposite side!
I had a dream I used Gen as well as I used Dudley (which is bad).
When I woke up I felt so powerful. FADC hands , Cross up wall dive dicks, combos into hard knockdown, switching stances without a thought.
How do you guys do it
1.best kara throw is sMK, but I use sHP because I use pad and its on a shoulder button
2. for my hand combos I neither piano or slide, rather I buffer mine (its impractical for me to piano on pad lol)
3. there is no universal crossup Oga, although its grouped roughly for hitbox sizes, I rather you check out the thread for that.
here is a hands tut I did for pad showing how I pull off my hands combos, may be of help on stick too

Good evening fellows.
Basically, I want to learn Gen. (TL;DR at the bottom). I’m not a very good SF player at all, I took a two year break to fous on BB and I came back for 2012, Only to really suck at the game. I saw Xian playing Gen, and I though “Damn…That guy is stylish.” And since then, I’ve wanted to learn Gen, Despite him being incredibly hard to play. So I’d like to know what a *complete beginner *should have to focus on (I knew terms, inputs ect. I’m not barebones).
TL;DR - quickest way to kick ass with Gen? What should I prioritise? (None of that learn Normals/Pokes/AA’s Thats a given, I mean Basic BNB’s, Setups, Traps ect)
I’ve read the guides. Too.
Dont play Gen because you see someone else playing Gen, play Gen because you feel a connection between you and the character, I played Gen because people looked down on me on most things and in SF i looked for the most looked down character and it was Gen. here is a quick rundown of what it takes to learn Gen
- Spend time learning his frame data
- Spend time in training mode learning how to Anti Air and Poke ranges and style changes
- Practising his bnb
- Watching top gen players and following one whose style applies to you most (in my case its NU)
- Dont give up
- Get some ointment for your fingers if you plan on learning hand combos ( you dont really need it)
- Train, Practice for hours on end
there is no quickway to gen and thats the truth but online you can win most by crane jumping mk lol!
I’m trying to learn how to do TC2>hands (regular and ex)>fadc>mp>tc2>gekiro and I am having a really tough time getting the MP to connect after the fadc and the tc2 after the mp to connect. Does anyone have any tips?
fadc the 4th hit of hands precisely.
plink the fierce with strong after strong.
Unless you are finishing the third (yes i said third) round and need that extra bit of damage, I suggest you leave out fadc combos.
(You suggest normal or ex hands, and a FADC in your combo, meaning you could use up to three meter to gain less than what hands->super could offer you)
Yes it is swag-tastic, but thats really only useful at the end of a 3rd round. If you dont have super and your both low, then yes this is useful. If you have super or health to gain super, back off, poke to win, or get super and instant punish any jump with a 1 frame anti air super.

This technique will help you get FADC out as fast as possible giving you time to connect the s.MP.
Not really Gen specific, I do that with everyone. I find with especially shotos doing dp fadc combos, holding forward then simply tapping forward after the FA makes it much easier. But still good to know.
Here’s something I’ve been wondering. I see a lot of players do the FADC combos but I wonder, are they really worth it? Does anyone know how much meter it builds?
For instance, with Abel, his bnb IS worth it almost always simply because the f.mk, s.hpx HP rekka FADC cr. HP x Airgrab builds one meter, so essentially it is almost 400 damage combo for the cost of one meter. Do you guys see this as the way with Gen too?
Right now I pretty much only use his meter for ex gek and super, tried the FADC combo a couple times and while I can get the TC2 after a s.mp, I just had trouble getting the mp to connect after fadc. I didn’t know you had to do it after 4th hit exactly, i’ll try it again.
Not saying it’s Gen specific. Most people don’t even know about that technique.
as for FADC. All situational. Depends on the type of character you are playing vs. Far as I recall. I don’t think you build meter once you FADC at least not with Gen. And if you do it’s very very little.
Really unless you know you will kill them and you only have two bars. I’d rather save it for super. I like to TC2, EX Hands, Sweep. Only one bar, awesome damage and hard knock down.
BTW you don’t HAVE to do it on the 4th it. It’s better because you get full damage. So it makes more sense.
its really up to you. but the successful popular gens use them if that means anything to you
to answer your question gen usually builds half a bar or so. not as good as abel
makoto officially on my annoying as fuck list
fuerte, blanka, and now makoto
just hate the whole im going to move around the screen randomly and press buttons and hope you run into something style of play
I had a few frustrating matchups against my friend who plays Akuma and Sagat.
He is new to the game, and I lose about 3 games to nothing but heavy attacks, wakeup throws/DP, and ESPECIALLY Akuma jump back fireball, whenever I got close, he teleported away.
I know you learn from things like this, but it’s so demoralizing.
I know what you mean. I really hate play styles where they move around so much. Like rose players. or vegas. I end up jumping a lot more because it’s hard to play footsies vs characters who do safe normals then back dash over and over.
But with ELF, Blanka and Makoto. Even though they move around, c.MP, hands rapes them. But ELF you need to move around alot more than the other two match-ups. Also vs him, fake and use FA more. Just taking his run jump BS, isn’t going to help, so mix up NJing back jumping, jumping at him, and FA. Makoto can be kept out if you have good reactions with your normals and can AA her air axe kick. Blanka just poke him before he gets to you. Bait some of them with c.Jab, and watch them slide to you.
yeah, i got some strats for all of them that basicly has me moving around just as much as them.i figure it’ll be harder to hit me with whatever randomness if im moving too. i try to wait till i see them stand still trying to get a bead on me. then we are back to my terms for the engagement
i just dont like it. they arent fun to fight against in a traditional streetfighter sense
oh yeah, on a side note, dont jump much if you fight a good fuerte and they get ultra. they can run stop and punish all variety of jumps with either ultra
