I’m going to have to see if crane s.HK has longer lower body invincibility. Dev blog said some hurtboxes are changed and some minor tweaks to crane normals, there has to be something.
does anyone have problems back dashing on wake up vs players that get in your face and use c.lk? I even mash it and I still get caught by it.
and it’s not even a reset, it’s a clean hit, almost as if my dash isn’t even there.
Yeah, but only online. Gen’s backdash seems to get destroyed by meaty attacks randomly or whenever I play people with fast shorts.
okay thanks. I’m going to stop doing that and just block. I’ve been command grabbed before it’s annoying as hell.
Well, Gen, like most other characters, have 1 grounded frame right after invincibility frames of backdash wears out. It can really refrain you from abusing it.
no before the dash even comes out. I’ve mashed dash on wakeup to get away from c.LK c.LK c.LK mash pressure and I wake up and get hit right away, no dash.
Oh that. Yea that is just BS.
This is what exactly happens to me as well. Online, that is.
Hopefully AE’s airborne backdash buff will fix this, but I haven’t really noticed since I can only play AE locally obviously and have never seen this outside of Xbox LIVE.
Is this a global fix or just for Gen?
I remember reading when they posted the AE changes every week that they fixed a lot of character’s backdashes that weren’t airborne at the end, but don’t know if they left a few out for some reason.
Seems like they would just do a global fix, though, so probably.
Is cr. mp hands really that much better than mk hands in AE? Or is it just obsolete? I noticed that Amiyu doesnt go for it his videos. Can anyone give me the low down behind this? Thanks.
Both have 5F startup in AE. C.mp has slightly less range but better hitbox/hurtbox positioning, more active frames, and less recovery. S.mk simply pales in comparison. (+ c.mp being a crouching attack is a nice bonus too)
I believe this was a global fix, some characters like Dan and Ken (I think) were considered grounded throughout their recovery after invul frames during backdash in super. So something like Abel’s cross-up mk tick ex.tt would catch Dan’s FADC backdash, where on other characters it wouldn’t. (or Gen safe jump air-buffer crane super wouldn’t work on them)
In addition to what MTS said, c.MP doesn’t move you forward much when you cancel into hands (despite the fact that Gen moves forward during the move), so you won’t get clean hits that often. If you hit hands with the first hit only, and whiffs the 2nd~4th, you’re put at -9, so it’s something to be aware about.
ooookay. It was my 2nd time going for offline matches (after a break of… half year?), and I got streamed, twice. I dropped a combo every single time that I was able to pull off 100% of the time in practice mode or online, I jumped like mario, and got my ass handed over (but srsly, I dropped s.MP -> s.MK link lotsa times). It was, imo, a pretty close match with the ryu player (but I lost), and I got clearly outplayed by the claw player (lost of course). Does anyone else have this issue, playing not so bad while not getting streamed, but then clearly sucking when you know there’s a laptop streaming your match?
performance anxiety. I try to recreate my common playing environment while playing. Music is the easiest, you could bring a chair too. It’s common, especially if you haven’t been doing it often.
Tell me about it, this sunday I played my first tournament using only Gen, and that’s pretty much what happened to me on my stream matches. Dropped combos, didn’t really jumped a lot but didn’t really made anything good while grounded too. I was visibly terrified, even though I already played more than a few tournaments playing some other character and scoring good places.
Music doesn’t really help either, it drops my reaction time. Guess I’ll just have to keep on playing (and losing) until I get used to it.
One of my matches, see the horror

it wasnt so bad, you just cracked a bit, happens to everyone, by the way why did you not finish most of your combos? you had her on the ropes dude but you just didnt capitalize. where are the hands!!!
I try to finish my combos with Hp/MkxxLk Gekiro and I’m fairly consistent, though yeah, once I noticed I was dropping it too many times, I should have tried more mp,mkxxhands.
One of the problems my place’s scene has is that +70% of all players plays on Xbox, but 90% of all tournaments are held on Ps3. Fucks my timing a bit. Will have to get used to it though, no use complaining.
i hate that. at times, you’ll hit buttons and get nothing, and just stand there awkwardly. stupid ps3…
anyway, i had a gen gameplay epiphany in regards to anti air.
when crouch fierce works it always hits clean. exept for the moves and ranges where it gets beaten clean. stand fierce works in almost all the same situations, except it trades where crouch fierce would normally lose.
it is better to take the shitty trade, and force your own mixup on their reset, than to try and deal with your opponents resulting mixup from blocking a jump in. always hit a button, unless it will lose you the round
