Gen beginners Thread ~ So you want to be an Assassin?

hello, i’m collecting kara throw data for all of AE 2012’s characters, i don’t know how much of the information here is outdated, so i wanted to ask: what’s gen’s best kara throw?
all of the data will be compiled into a list including normal throw ranges, added ranges and kara throw ranges.

I can do mp to hp hands 95% of the time but I’m mashing. I can never get perfect inputs it always looks like cr.mp lp hp lp plinked hp or cr.mp mp lp hp lp plinked hp or mp lp hp mp lp hp or cr.mp lp hp mp lp hp. <<<Those were my last four attempts all did 5 hits and did 134 damage but I mashed and they’re never consistent + there is no rhythm. This bothers me because I don’t have any issues with anything in this game (execution wise) other than RSF and pianoing. Should I just settle for this successful hands or should I keep practicing. What are your orders? I try to do cr.mp hp mp lp hp and I do get hands but it’s never the input I want.

plink MP and LP twice and then press HP

Very basic question: when i switch stances by “buffering” it (as in, doing it during blockstun, etc), do the 5 frames still occur afterwards, as soon as possible or do i essentially skip them?

So for instance, if i get knocked down in mantis, if i switch to crane and do super that’s a 7 frame reversal essentially, or is it still 2 frame as if i had been in crane all along?

(Now that i posted this i noticed i could easily test it with that scenario haha)

So mp + lp (slightly elevated lp) then again then hp? Say I plink my mp for after cr.lk cr.lp then all I would need is to plink another mp then hp?

I assume you are going for the crLK crLP crMP hands combo.

Method 1. crLK crLPx2 (double tap), plink crMP and crLP then press HP
Method 2. crLK crLPx2 (double tap), crMP then HPx2

You can buffer the 5 frames, if theres enough buffer frames then there will be no delay after. to answer you for instance question, if you switch from mantis to crane while you are knocked down you stance will change in those knocked down frames and the super will come out as usual. 0+1 frame startup not two frames

What’s the frame data on hands fadc, both on hit and on block? Thanks in advance.

Might be useful. 2013 version to follow release.

Hands fadc on hit is +6 and +2 on block if you fadc on the fastest possible time.

Does it matter which hands you end in?
I’m assuming hp is best because you can fadc afterwards.
Anyway. I’m too free to hands. Just can’t piano I give up.

Neither can I piano but I can hit all my hands combos on both pad and stick, Gen rapid hands is the easiest of all the mash special characters, I have listed this before but for your sake let me list it again.

sMP sMK Hands: sMP x 3 sMK sHP x2
crMP Hands: crMP crLP crLP crMP crHP (slide you middle finger from MP to LP (make sure your hands slides off the LP, then slide LP MP HP)
crLP crMP Hands: crLP x 2 crMP crHP x2 or crLP x 2 then plink crMP crLP then hit HP
sHP sMK Hands: plink sHP sMP, then press sMK then sHP x 3
sMK Hands: FORGET IT ITS USELESS NOW

Below is a small video I did for the above explanation

I tried your methods that you mentioned earlier, I’d never overlook any advice but my double and triple tapping skills are also not on point.
I’ll keep practicing, along with being shitty at pianoing I’m also shitty at quitting.

which is better for hands, pianoing or sliding? Also, stMK hands is fucking rediculous. I cant even MASH that shit out. Is it nessacary?

Anyone that you are comfortable with, sMK is not necessary since crMP serves the same purpose and much easier to do.

Depends on what’s most comfortable for you and what gives you the best accuracy. I slide for everything but if I do EX Hands, I tap HP, then tap MK, HP then press MK+HP at the end.

I don’t know if it’s a just frame or just me, but I can’t get the st.mp, st.hp, st.mk, hand, FADC, st.mp, st.hp, st.mk, gekiro lp.
The combo always drop after the FADC. How many hits should the hands do ? Is it my FADC too slow ?

The hands should land a total of 4 hits before you do an FADC. If you get 4 hits out and it still drops after the FADC, then yeah you’re probably too slow.

Gonna force myself to play Gen (or Evil Ryu). My execution is ass and it annoys me. Maybe these two will force me to improve. When it comes to Gen, I don’t quite understand the Oga setups. Are they character specific? I can do cr.mp -> hands -> super -> ultra easily. I can also do cr.lk, cr.lp, st.lp, tc, mk gekiro. Anything else I must learn?

MK gekiro? are you serious? and didnt you play Gen before?
