What about the mp didn’t you like? it’s a lot more fun then any other competitive shooter I’ve ever played and against a good team takes a lot more tactical on the fly decisions too. The only gripes I had with mp was getting stuck to walls at inconvenient times.

Hammerburst was a faster and much stronger lancer but the tradeoff was it had no chainsaw attachment and it took really good consistent aiming to make it better then the lancer so it’s really not worth the effort lancer>hammerburst.

Besides chainsaw surprise is my favorite death dealer and the lancer got mad buff after all the patches.

The game was simply not polished enough to be played competitively without banned alot of stuff.

and you seriously don’t see the how the host advantage is a big deal? In high level play, everyone agreed that THE HOST NEEDS TO BE MARKED BY A CERTAIN CHARACTER MODEL so players will know to react effectively

Yeah GOW multiplayer was read hot trash, there was so much broken shit it was rediculous. When it first came out it was all just roadie run frag tag, then it was roadie run shotgun, roll shotgun.

The regulars I used to play with and their friends never used any glitches other then weapon sliding which was fine and that goes double for offline but the glitches are why patches exist right. Cliffy b isn’t going to make the same mistake twice.

Host was so overblown by everyone, it’s the scapegoat king and no one is denying it needs to be toned down but it’s not a valid excuse as to why someone gets raped repeatedly.

Dog, the chainsaw feature is some bullshit because you are completely unsafe afterward. Its only useful when you know you are outnumbering the opponent.

The ability to melee with the hammerburst is an advantage because you can combine them with the fast/strong shots and it can really overwhelm your opponent in a particular range that is unmatched. but like you said it takes a lot of effort to get to that level.

That guy’s good with burst. I became really good with chainsaw it’s all about timing but in a straightup firefight at chokepoints I used to go with active pistol or longshot.

This, the Chainsaw is shit. How many saw kills will you see at any given time during an MLG match? Probably zero, you might see some when it’s 4v1 but at that point the match it’s over anyways.

Ok, let me say this again. Top. Players. Not n00bs that make excuses when they lose. Not billy from down the sidewalk. Not Fraggurl187 from xbox live. TOP PLAYERS agreed that the host needs to be marked in competitive play. In MLG, teams have constructed anti-host strategies. Host advantage was real. To many people acknowledged it and played regardless of it.

Also, all the glitches that you just saw are post patching. Cliffy b didn 't really make any mistakes, I mean, before the first patch he ADMITTED in a GI interview that he did not design GoW to be competitive. And it was only patched because of how quickly it took off.

That and playing a game and agreeing not to do broken stuff doesn’t make the game unbroken. These problems are there regardless. Also, Gow also suffered from completely fucking random glitches that sometimes happened without the player doing anything to trigger it. I helped host a few tournaments here in nashville/middle Tennessee. We had to restart matches sometimes because the match would begin and some players would not be able to roadie run for a few seconds. Or grenades becoming fused within a character model once it touches the ground. (no, that’s not supposed to happen) A few times, I’ve seen matches start and somebody can’t equip their secondary weapon. Or my personal favorite, getting revived, standing up, and getting stuck in the spot you were downed in. there’s even more random crap than that, but you should get the idea. running tournaments for this game is a pain in the ass because of all that.

And that’s mostly why GoW doesn’t have a big competitive circuit as alot of other games. Many people just outright hated the multiplayer. I’ve seen a few really good players, who win tournaments and get the money, say THEY hate the game because it’s broken.

And outside form the glitches, many say that the basic design just doesn’t work. The list of things I’ve seen people complain about contain the following:

How melee’s leave you stunned.

How the shotgun often degenerates strategy into seeing who can roll the best…

…but then also how the game NEEDS the shotgun, otherwise melees would rule the game.

How the grenade stun animation gets you downed for free.

I could go on.

But take note, that I’m not expressing my opinion on the game. All this is just the truth. and yeah, the chainsaw sucked.

Tigerboi, I agree with most of the stuff you say but quit sourcing MLG. That is basically like sourcing Kotaku for facts. MLG is hideous and have always ran by stupid rules as it is.

Yes, MLG does suck for many reasons. (banning alot of things in halo 3 before the game even came out. And they really suck for letting GOW1 letting it get as big as it did).

But I’m not referencing the MLG staff. I’m referencing the players. I doubt the idea of marking the host would’ve even come up if not for top players wanting it to be done. And the only other MLG reference I made was what they banned; and seriously, if you watch the videos, you’d agree that those are things only a fool would disagree with.

-it’s great they recognize shotty roll spam is too good and stopping power sounds like a good idea.
-guardian mode sounds like it’ll be my favorite too respawn until leader dies? simple n fun.
-avalanche looks awesome I like the random kills I doubt it’s fits for competitive play though.

The multiplayer was bad but the basic game design and ideas are amazing and it looks like they’re making the mp more like how it was originally intended.
