Hopefully, this one will actually have polish to a degree that won’t require banning two billion things in the mutiplayer. If they at least playtest it alot more than they did gears 1, I’ll be happy.
EDIT: VERY good interview. I love that they’re taken note of the obvious dumb things from the first one (chainsaw invincibility). that and the actual kill animation for it is alot faster. I’m pleased.
Like I said when gears came out the host advantage is something too many people bitch about and it isn’t as good as it’s hyped up to be I myself have had no problem dealing with it but it should definitely be turned down because it does give an advantage on annex especially.
A lot of public games became shotgun fests but in gears against a team who knows what they’re doing or even 4 random strangers who work well together that shit would NEVER work you would have to actually tactically think n there’s more of that now then ever.
Another thing I would like changed but wouldn’t get to pissed about if they overlooked it was making all the character hitboxes the same. It would be cool to be able to use some the Theron Guards, Raam and Cole in multiplayer without getting raped due to their bigger hitboxes. :shake:
It’s still somewhat of a Shotgun fest even at the highest level of play(MLG) but a lot more tactical. Wall Bounce is used a lot more and teams rush/flank Boom/Snipe with a lot more strategy compared to the random open field Roll/Sidefire>Roll/Sidefire>Roll/Sidefire that online matches usually turn into lol. Host Advantage is a big enough deal that MLG rules require the host to switch after every map change, hopefully this is fixed in Gears 2.
It was pretty dope of Bungie(Halo) and Infinity Ward/Activision(CoD) to work so closely with MLG and the tournament scene, they actually care enough to add MLG game types and ask for feedback on their forums for upcoming patches and fixes. I’ve read that MLG has tried to work out something similar with Epic in the past but had been ignored, don’t know the details but that really sucks.
In high level play longshot and to a slightly lesser degree torque are as popular as shotty is on public online games. Default pistol was by far the most underrated weapon so few people knew that 4 shots to the head was a headshot, 4perfect active shots anywhere was a down, and 1 shot+clocking them once was a down as well. Then they nerfed it sometime in 07 and buffed up the lancer A LOT and I stuck with that ever since.
Anyways it’s good to now host is being toned down but check out the thread I posted it’s a good read on the topic and I still think way too many people bitch about the advantage though sometimes it is understandable.
Chainsaw camping was a lot of fun especially around a choke point where they know you’re there and cautiously approach then you double back when they turn around and get’em in the back:rofl: Anyone remember playing on canals? The first person on each team to get snipe both hide along the wall waiting for the other to stick the others head out lol good times.
