I’m getting raw at this game boy. My favorite weapons are the Hammerburst, and Boltok Pistol. I get mad headshots with the pistol. Also the Boomshield is ivan ooze worthy.
Alot of the weapons change if your playing execution(what a dumb game mode, sooooo scrubby) making long range weapons useless. Mulcher is good in everything but execution, and very good if used with a good team. gorgon is good only takes me two shots to down and combine with a shield, meat or otherwise, and you got a serious combo on your hands.
Smokes are top for sure, explode quickly for a free kill. So nice to own cats with a quick smoke tossed, then run in and shotgun them when they on the ground. Tourqe >>>> Sniper, so easy to take out a whole team with steady torque aim.
Boomshot blindfire is nerfed(NEVER aim it in gow1, blindfire is free esp with the splash) but i still find myself hitting with it over 80% of the time, and with three shots its still good. The lag on the shot takes a while to get used to but is fair, shit was way too fast in 1.
Shotgun is still just as good once you get used to it, shotgun runs, blindfire one shots from corners, etc all still work.
Hammerburst def way better than lancer, chainsaw is good but will only stay that way for another week or two…chainsawing threw bullets is so gay :/. Only problem i have with the Hburst is that u seem to down right when the clip runs out, this is a pretty big weakness but i think it might just be the way i fire it?
Mortar is pretty strong with a good team to back you up. Ink grenades ehhhh, not as good as smoke but still strong. Inks are good for controlling space and creating traps/executing traps. I think alot of players are sleeping on smokes, there a free kill and the concusion blast is HUGE.
Hammer of Dawn is wack now, having ammo wtf. One gun that didnt need nerfing, only person iv seen use it well is my buddy and he went to Prague for being top 10 in gears 1 so he doesnt count.
Sniper is nerfed hard, active reload whoring was too good but still i miss it. In the hands of a master its still scary, but alot of the new levels just dont feel all that sniper friendly.
Why do u think mulcher is best at short range? Iv found it perfect for assisting team mates in a fight at mid+ range.
My tiers overall would be:
Top=
Flamethrower-the “stopping power” realy helps with this gun, hit them with the flame and they cannot roll out unless they were barely in range anyway.
Smokes- soooooo fucking good. The knockdown was just dumb to add
Boom-obviously
Torque- good aim with torque is realy tough, harder to blind fire it but still good.(gears 1 blindfire torque strait homed in)
High=
Shield- its good in theory but must be used in certain situations, i.e. one on one and not when outnumbered.
Sniper- tiers are based on maximum potential…should probably be top.
Hammerburst- best machine gun, can realy control space.
Shotgun- still sick, once people get used to the new mechanics it’ll be shotguns all over again.
Gorgon- best pistol, sometimes i prefer over hammerburst and with a shield wow too good.
Low=
Inks/Frags- both have there uses.
Mortar- very good with a good team, without one…ehhh not so much.
Bottom=
HammerofDawn- adding ammo to it makes it much less viable.
Boltok- hit the head twice and its ggpo, slow firing speed and slow bullets makes this harder.
Snub-still has its uses, can blindfire quickly and can still pop heads, but theres so many more options in this game.
These are my thoughts and tiers after 50+ hours of pretty high level action. Gimme some thoughts and again, the main points are…yall sleeping on smokes and execution is the shittiest.
Torque is definitely NOT tops simply because if you get hit with it you don’t die most of the time in gow1 if you got hit it was always a kill. You put hammerburst way too low it really is the best overall weapon in the game, smokes are nice but IMO inks are a lot better then smokes because they can and often do independently kill or make it easy to take out an entire team.
I highly highly doubt gow2 will be a shotgun fest simply because the flamethrower is shotgun2.0 and most other weapons are just straightup better in most situations. I think you’re underestimating the mortar I’ve seen teams taken out with that thing with ease as long as you’re far away when using it.

Can’t wait till MLG figures out the rules for this game, gamebattles.com matches are capped at 10 matches per team till they are figured out. Frags, Boom Shields and Lancers are gone in MLG, I don’t even want to fuck around with the default multi till MLG has their game rules set in stone.

MLG/Gamebattles do, and while a lot of people don’t agree with their rules those of us that want to play GoW2 competitively just have to deal with them. Although in this case I agree with a lot of the changes, Lancer, Frags and Boom Shields need to go.

How are those rules scrubby? They aren’t forcing these on anyone, they are posting results/tweaks from player feedback and will continue to do so until the community can agree on the rules, not everyone in MLG/Gamebattles are “scrubs”. Eshelon gives his his own personal opinion, thoughts and reasoning behind his decisions and then post them for people to try for themselves, he has been frequently updating them as he gets feedback, it’s not like it’s just his little clique of “pro” friends making these up for their benefit. I’m not on MLG’s nuts or anything but I would like to play this game competitively in a tournament setting is all and I’m sure many others feel this way as well. :tup:

Man, me and my friend just played through 9 level of Horde mode and stopped on 10 on Hardcore. Couldn’t get any farther after many, many tries, so we’ll try later this weekend haha.
We’re both just OK at the game, so no surprise I guess.

For the record, I stay laughing my ass off at the dialog. How can you not? The shit is so bad that it’s funny. I haven’t laughed at a character for being lame as hard as I’ve laughed at Dizzy for a long time. He’s so fucking terrible.

Yeah, the game is VISUALLY pretty, but I still think the art style, character designs, monster designs, monster names (at first I thought they were just nicknames given to them by the humans. Then in the middle of the first game, I realized that the locust called THEMSELVES that), dialog, and even tech design are SHIT.
The shit reminds me of tremors the series.
and I don’t think the dialog was this bad on purpose. Have you seen the interviews? they seem to think this is academy award winning shit. I’m serious.
That and, the dialog usually leads me to think that cliff might be an in the closest homo. But ok!

Aww why so much hate for Gears’ dialogue? Maybe it’s because I have a immature sense of humor but I found the game to be pretty funny and I don’t usually laugh when playing games. I always just figured the game was written this way intentionally, so it never bothered me. Anyways, got to level 11 in Horde mode with a friend of mine offline, Hardcore. What an addicting mode holy shit. Haven’t played online that much at all to be honest.

You dont like the character designs? I think the locusts are the scariest and coolest looking enemies ive seen in a long time. Could you imagine something like that running at you?
The best way i can sum up gears is like going from SoR2 to SoR3. It was just an upgrade, but a very very good one. They added more of what people wanted (better controls, more action, fights with brumacks and other huge locusts), and it was just an overall really good sp experience.

orochiizoolander : In any multi torque is an instant kill dude, it has’nt changed since gow1. I think your confusing it with the the cpu uses it on you in horde or story mode, it wont kill u just make you bloody red. PvP matches, u torque it sticks, they die, unless that random glitch is still in this one where it stick explode and dosent do a damn thing.
It worked very well in GoW1.

Not a bad start overall, they will need more tweaking as the game matures that’s for sure.
