fuck that forum excuse. I was new and when I wanted to learn MvC2 I looked up the info myself when I saw there was an MvC2 subforum. when you really want to learn you want to learn and you will learn and the rest is just excuses. people would rather be attention whores and make new threads like “how do I do ROM infinite” instead of going to the magneto subforum where “how to do ROM infinite” is a stickied thread

What I’m more interested in, is whether (or why) people need new gameplay rather than existing gameplay.

If we look at ASW games or KOF, they like making sequels that are significantly different, rather than refining and improving the existing game.

Hypothetically, we could have a game that just upgrades its technology (graphics, netcode, etc) and tweaks its balance every few years, but remains largely the same. (just like chess or poker or sports etc)

But it seems most players would get bored without new gameplay to learn?

I guess it’s possible that a lot of enjoyment from video games comes from the learning process itself. So if the Blazblue didn’t have an all new set of combos to learn due to mechanics changes, people would get bored a bit faster.

In the case of KOF, is because every KOF entry is considered a different game altogether, they are not mean to be seen as revisions but as new games, think of them as SF2 to SFAlpha 3 to SF3 to SF4

The same can be said of BB
Each entry of BB is technically a new game, the exceptions are the revisions on each entry
BBCT didn’t have revisions
BBCS had 3 revisions
BBCP is still in the air if will have 1 or more revisions, but is very posible

You can also say that the developers of the games like to experiment, and want to see what works and what doesn’t.

Also, GGXX went for 3(4 if you count Blue Reload and Red Reload as different games ) revisions without major changes until GGXXAC (wich many consider a new entry of the game) and even with said changes, it retained a lot of the core aspects that were present on GGXX while expanding the options present on the game.
The same can be said of BB and KOF, since even when there are changes on mechanics they still retain a lot of the core aspects that define each game.

If you want tournaments for your favorite game, take it to your local stuff and run the tournament for it.
