Garou: MOTW Thread

Theres a lot of stuff to learn in Garou so that is one of the reasons why this thread got big, new stuff gets found all the time, stuff I haven’t mentioned yet. In good time once I get the tutorial video all done it shall be shown for all to enjoy. As for Kevin here goes:

-Best air to air is his A
-Best jump ins A/C/D
-Best pokes A and d + AB (Kevin has the best d + AB in the game)
-Best wake up d + AB
-His qcb + D is used to mainly through off your opponent when your rushing them down since its pretty quick. Just dont use it a lot since it can be countered pretty easy with a trip and even normal attacks. Good for getting out of the corner also if you think its safe to pull off as they jump at you, you can also cancel the qcb + A/C into his qcb + D as well to mixup your opponent.
-You can throw Kevin during his qcb + A/C animation but its pretty hard to catch him before it hits you. Also chances are most good Kevins don’t use the move by itself unless they wanted to go for the overhead qcb + C.
-Kevin is a very good character as far as match ups I would say in the right hands Kevin is very hard to beat. Though that doesn’t mean he can’t be beat, but he does have the best mixups in the game. Not to mention Kevin builds meter very quickly with his qcb + A/C cancels, his command grab is also a very good tool to use since it has great range. Kevins AB low dodge overhead is great for a meaty anti wake up, if timed right he can combo after it. That’s pretty much all the main things you should know with Kevin, combos have already been posted. Hope this helps, Giby can probably give you guys some more pointers as well. Take care.

Kevin has A LOT of combos BTW, his strongest combo requires some practice to perform it almost flawlessly. One thing you should know about Kevin is that his :qcf::qcf:+:snkd: is most likely the FASTEST super in the game since it has a frame rate of 0.
Try doing this combo for example:
:qcb:+:snka: (Charge to MAX)–>:qcf::qcf:+:snkd:

Just to add you have to be at least near the corner for it to hit unless you land a counter hit then it’s possible mid screen. It’s possible to Kevin to land 3 supers in 1 combo for 100% damage but doing it consistant is pretty difficult. You have to pull off his special cancels during the combo for it to work and you have to be in TOP also. It’s also a corner only combo but he can stil do some pretty nasty stuff midscreen as well. Also his qcfX2 + D super can be counter hit by a d + AB with anyone on the ground, I’ve pulled it off a bunch of times but you have to do before it starts or you’ll get hit. I’ve also been able to hit him out of it while in the air but the timing has to be perfect or you’ll surely get hit by it. It is very fast and gives you a free juggle after it which is always good as well. Take care.

I’ve been watching vids all day now and reading up a whole lot of stuff, and I decided I’m gonna pick this up and play it competively. So got must of the stuff and considered, and practiced a bit. Seems that Jae and Gato are going to be my main characters.

Anywho, I got one question for now pertaining to Gato. How do you make the Tiger Leap cancel so that Gato stays on the ground for meter? Or rather, what’s the timing on the a press after you do the tiger leap motion?

When you see him raise his arms up is when your suppose to press A to cancel out of it. Usually right when you hear him do the stomp is when your suppose to press A. The timings for the B and D versions are different, once you get the timing down for it it’s not too hard. This has been posted before as well but I don’t mind posting it again. Hope this helps out.

I do have another question about Gato. Is there any practical combos pertaining to hitting the kick super twice? I’d like to know if there are any.

Does anyone play this on kaillera? I’m looking for people to “kick my butt” so that I can get better at this.

I play from time to time but there are a couple of other decent players online, mainly in the GodWeapon or Anti3D servers. I would rather you play people offline as thats the better way to learn, since with lag its a lot harder to play. If you can’t find anyone then playing online is your next option, just don’t be suprised if you find some crappy players. Take care.

Yeah, I know what you’re saying with that. It’s all good though. I’m gonna get it for one of the systems soon, and hopefully I’ll get some more comp offline. Hope I see you sometime online though.

Heya… there was some vids on orochinagi posted a long while back. It’s this long video showing combos from everyone. With Hokutomaru he does c.A+B into the teleport animation, only he lands right back on the ground like a feint. How does he do this? Is this only in certain versions? Also I want to know any and all things regarding hokutomaru if you know anything. (like one time i swear someone cancelled a tech roll into his teleport… maybe it was just quick dunno.) Thanks for the help guys.

Do you mean his qcb+B move? This can be done in the normal version of the game.

yeah, this thread is ULTRA big. i’ve read it from front to back, ordered the game for my PStwo, and plan on playing this semi-competively. from watching match vids, i think kevin will be my main. good stuff though, i wish this had a following in the us…

I just gotta throw out there, the SRK wiki is up and totally usable. I’ve putting some garou stuff already, but I don’t know much. Garou players need to attack the wiki so we have a good brain dump place for garou info. I’ve been filling some out in my spare time, but we need more. Hell, if we just dumped info from Howard Arena, that’d be a plus, but I know we can add more between us.

How does this wiki site work anyway? It seems anyone can just log in and edit the pages…Also, I can’t seem to read anything on there, just edit…so I assume there is no character specific strats up yet.

Only the beginning of a Grant page I put up; that’s why I brought it up. People need to be entering stuff, so we can avoid the same questions that make up 80% of this thread.

Wow, that seems like some pretty sweet stuff. I’ll try to put in a little someth’n someth’n some time. One thing that MIGHT be good to put in the contents is a key for combo notation basics like: A = Light Punch (LP), j = jump, etc. This way we can all write combos w/ a certain (Garou) standard. Great ideas guys!
