whoa. I thought that Gantz had stopped. I quit reading after that stupidly long fight against those things that just wouldn’t die. The arc where the osaka team and the vampires showed up. that damn little kid was so annoying I was hoping someone would just shoot his ass and be done with it. I think the last chapter I read was when the one guy was banging the monster made up of thousands of chicks. Talk about getting your freak on. :wtf:

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don’t believe that this manga is written too well, and it is definitely inconsistent. It does have an interesting premise, though.
This is the only reason I still check up on it. Story…nah. I mean “Akasha chronicle” and shit, whatever.

Hot damn, a whole thread about Gantz. I love this manga so much.
As far as story goes, yeah, you guys are right. The story isn’t great. It seemed like it tried to go off into another direction with the vamps and Kei’s brother; then the mangaka was like “eeehhh fuck it” and just continued along with the story. I really don’t want to say all the writing and story is terrible though.
I think the writing is fine, even good, if you look at it in the short term. The story as a whole is a big mess but when you take the individual missions and the events that take place within them, you get bursts of absolute awesome which is what makes Gantz what it is. Luckily, those awesome bursts come at you fast. The only time I really felt Gantz dragging was during the Izumi bullshit.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the next installment. 304 didn’t quench my thirst. I kinda felt like “Ok, shit’s hitting the fan. We get it. Where’s the action?”
For making us wait for a LONG time, that chapter was ok. I hope the two vamps play a bigger role this time.

Since they basically set it up as a cockfight between the humans and a bunch of aliens. Which makes me believe maybe why someone like Reika is in their is because they wanted some popular and to play favorites. Though I think she is probably one of the top Gantzers on the team.

I was talking about this earlier, but it seems like the author writes himself into these difficult situations where he has to come up with some crazier bullshit each time to top the crazy bullshit he put into the previous arc. Like with the current chapter, he could have just said “oh the decepticons have landed in America and theres a bunch of fighting blah blah” and that would have been cool. Instead, we get AMERICA IS GONE LOL, GONE LIKE SETH’S HEALTH BAR AFTER COUNTERHIT TIGER UPPERCUT!
Both “plotlines” send the same message that yeah, judgement day is coming and they’re all fuct.
It’s like DBZ. Oh, this guy can shoot fireballs. Oh yeah this guy can do AHVB (x4!) with his hands. Yeah well fuck you this guy can blow up planets with his finger.
Anyways, as much as we all love to rag on the story, imo part of the appeal of this series is to see what kind of wack shit the author can come up with, and how he can (somehow) write a story around it with the characters we know.

Gantz is one of my fav mangas and the current arc is just awesome, but it feels like the artist of Gantz met the artist of Berserk and decided that it would be a good idea and just chill and take it slow.
