so is this a SSF4 tourney or Smash ???
Both. The Ottawa SF scene isn’t too big and given that this is the first event we’re not expecting very many out of towners so we’re trying to cater to as many people as possible both to gather interest and cover costs.
I’ve got pretty extensive experience running smaller scale SF tournies (< 32 person brackets, ranbat seasons, etc…) and the GO staff have done a lot of Smash stuff in the past so we’re collaborating on this (with GO doing most of the work)
Any chance of BlazBlue CS being part of the tournament? i’d be willing to make the drive from montreal for that, for sure.
Buenob can you confirm? At this point I don’t believe it will be on the list for this event however I’m pushing to have it included for future ones!
I guess I’ll finally come out and just say it before people come to arms about it.
I’m one of the people representing Gaming Ottawa, who are throwing this tournament.
As of right now, there aren’t any plans to make BBCS a tourney for the January event. However, it is a game we’d definitely like to bring in for next month. With that said, if there is a lot of interest for it and I can get a solid confirmation from a group of people (at least 15-20 and we must meet this), we will find a way to make it into the January event. If the conditions are met, it’ll be a last minute addition and the tournament itself will have to be organized amongst yourselves (meaning no or minimal equipment provided, little space and no guaranteed pot). Also, we only have the venue for one night so if BBCS does happen, it’ll have to run alongside the other tourneys so you’ll either have to jump around like mad or forfeit matches if you plan on participating in multiple events.
Because this is a monthly event, the confirmation we need is that people will attend these events on a monthly basis. If you just want one event, that’s a different story.
Given that the next monthly will be very-much Marvel-3-Centric, I would like to give Marvel 2 a sendoff @ this event.
I don’t mean to propse a Marvel 2 tournament or anything that takes a lot of space, but I am extending an invitation to any people who feel capable of taking my $ to play me in a first to 10 match at MVC2, providing that Gaming Ottawa is onhand.
I will provide the console, TV, and copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2.
I will not, however, be responsible for providing your controller.
The minimum bet, should this be kosher with the admin, will be $2 per game on the spread.
Should you feel confident in raising that bet, let me know and we can work something out
Hey Johnny, how’s the volunteering situation? Since I don’t play any of these games and I already told you I’d show up for moral support I figure I should at least be helping in some *tangible *fashion. Let us know if you need any help or whatever.
Mainly a Tekken player, but I would’ve come to support the scene. Unfortunately all I have is a PS3 & PS2 equipment. So have fun you all
This! Except i have no clue how to play marvel.
Spread the word on this, get some folks up from TO and Mtl I’m sure a couch or two can be made available to crash on by some of the guys here!
We’ve already got a full car coming down from Kingston for sure (5), and a “probably” from one in MTL. Hype!
Aside from a couple of tardy people we have at least 3 more confirmed for mvc2. Until otherwise stated by probably MKP I think we’re doing MMs instead of a tourney. And of course MMs take priority over casuals.
If we supply all the gear and do this will we still have to pay the $5 entry free towards the pots of the SF4/Smash tourneys? If so that’s kinda wack (re: elan games tournament failure 2009)… just sayin
The issue is space. Why would we ask for a tournament entry fee for a tournament you’re not entering? Venue yes, entry no.
Again this is up to the GO crew, I think space may be at a premium.
Ah ok, I think I was confused trying to make a distinction between the ‘spectators are free’ part with the ‘$5 venue attendance’ … I guess the place isn’t that big or something? How big is it?
And just to clarify, does logans quote above imply that competitors in your tourneys will have to pay a base $5 venue fee + $5 for every tourney they enter?
Anyway if someone from GO can pipe in on this that would be great. If you’re super lower on space I can understand charging people to come in, but then it seems unfair to allow spectators to come in free and charge the people lugging all their own stuff (including tvs) who will just be doing casuals. Let us know pls and thx!
That’s pretty standard… Not sure about space -1500sqft I think.
Going to leave the rest of this up to the GO staff.
Hello !
I’ll be attending this event to support my homie Gillette. I’ll auto accept any money matches Ottawa has to offer, so get at me
Will be awesome to have you up here!
Great to see so much out of town support!
Do we have any judges lined up for this thing?
The GO staff will be running the brackets however I’m sure they’d appreciate some volunteers…
Sorry about the late response to some of the issues going on around here. Was out in the country doing some dogsledding most of the weekend.
For this event, we’re unfortunately not going to allow you guys to bring the setups in and run your own thing for MvC2. This is a tournament, not a fest or a casual get together. If you are still interested in bringing your game and playing it for fun at the end of the night after the tournaments are done, you are more than welcome to.
And just to clarify a couple of your questions…
-Anyone who comes into the venue with the intention of playing a video game (own gear supplied or not) would pay the venue fee for the event ($5). However, since we unfortunately can’t allow it this time around this shouldn’t be an issue anymore. But to clarify if we did allow it, you wouldn’t pay into any of the tournament pots. Just the venue fee because you are coming in with the intention of taking space and playing games.
-To clarify pricing. You pay $5 venue, plus whatever entry fees there are for the tournaments you wish to participate in. Using singles as an example…a player wants to play in both SSF4 and Brawl singles, they would pay $5 venue, $5 for SSF4 and $5 for Brawl. $15 total. The entry fees for the tournaments (the $5 for SSF4 and Brawl each) goes into the respective tournament’s pot.
-The difference between a spectator and someone coming in for casuals is that those coming in for casuals are coming in with the intention to use the venue for playing games (obviously). That requires table space, floor space and power requirements which are all provided under the venue. A spectator requires nothing more than a little standing room to observe what is going on.
Again…just to make sure we get this across. We are not allowing people to bring their own setups for the sole purpose of playing casuals. After the tournaments are over and the setups are free, you are more than welcome to pop in whatever game discs you feel like and playing for fun on the setups we have. If you are interested in lending a setup to us for the purpose of it being used in the tournament we are still looking for volunteers for that as well (we will be able to pick up and drop off your equipment).
I hope that clears some stuff up. If you still have questions, concerns, comments or what have you, feel free to contact me (ahadi@gamingottawa.ca) or just post here and hopefully I’ll be able to get back to you sooner than this last post.
