GameWorks Seattle, WA FightClub Tournament April 24th - 26th over $1000 prize pool

You forgot Adams ryu and that’s all i can remember. First tournament ever and was surprised how different the feel was from casual play. My first couple of matches were the worst i couldn’t execute at all. I’m really surprised i made it as far as i did. GG’s to all my matches they were all very close down to the wire. And thanks to John (3rd place) for all those ken tips, it really helped me when i faced rommel’s chun.

Hahah yeah. Good match sir! We need to do it again.

1st place was Dan…Scrubby?

Yeah I’m Aroun the asian guy the other guy’s Greg (slider01010.) Yeah we were kinda hung over but still played well anyways. Definatley want to make it down more often.

Umm which one were you?

Crazy tourny. Good games. I definitely need more practice against Ken and Dhalsim! I got frickin’ rocked by Francis and Chris A…That was my first big tournament, and that shit was nerve-racking but awesome. I was laughing all night remembering the look on James Showecker’s face after baaaaarely beating Mickey. I’m pretty sure he’s never had that large of an injection of adrenaline in his life…HAHAHA!!! Most people would like…I dunno raise their hands in victory or sOMEthing…but James just stood there looking like a stiff ass bug-eyed mummy…hahaha! still makes me laugh…

Anyways…

Some suggestions for the next tourny:

----originally this was posted:

“i. Between each round of play there should be about 10-15 minutes of time for the next group to practice on the cabinet before their round of play begins.”

I know time was short as it was, but that would’ve been nice. Everyone was in the same boat though, so no big deal really. Also you guys set up the free-play, so there’s really no fault here, but practice with the tournament jitters would have been awesome…haha.

----The aspect ratio was f’d on this screen. Once again, affects everyone tho, so it’s not unfair, just annoying.

----Screen on the ceiling was awesome, but neck-breaking.

----And the last one might be a bit touchy, but I gotta mention it. The aspect of the re-buy was a little weird I thought. I don’t have anything against the people who re-bought, I mean, if I had had the opportunity, I’d be tempted too. But that’s the part of it that was weird. It threw an unfair element into the tourny because only people from the first 4 brackets even had the opportunity to do it. Not to mention, its unregulation allowed someone to change their character… And in general, it just kind takes a little bit of the legitimacy out of the tournament. Not a ton, just a little. Imagine if Justin Wong could just pay another $10 to re-fight Daigo to claim the title at Evo…(extreme example)This re-buy didn’t affect me personally, nor did it affect who was in the top 4, but I’d suggest against it in future tournaments. There’s ways to adjust uneven brackets without having a re-buy option. Unless of course it is in the original rules in which case you can know what to expect.

No hate in my speech, only love and the interest of fairness.

I can’t wait for the next big tourny! WOO!!

Rebuy was random to me too, but also allowed them a better chance to break a little closer to even. Plus that way you can run chunks of the brackets at the same time - rewarding people who show up on time while not really punishing those who showed up late.

Last night was crazy. Didn’t actually get to play in the tournament, but I had an awesome time meeting everyone and watching some quality matches. Definitely looking forward to the next one, hopefully we had a big enough turn out to secure another in the future (which I think we probably did).

Congrats to all the winners. Shouts to Jason, Chris & Kriss and everyone else I met. Thanks to Brian for putting on an awesome event, it was nice meeting you as well. Glad the Seattle scene came out in full force for this, it was wild.

there was another abel player if i remember correctly. and yeah, there was a 3rd dhalsim.

hah, i like what Julian said about there being basically 3 different kinds of 'sims at the tournament. awesome!

GG’s to all was great seeing what seattle had to offer. Being my first big tourny outside the few gamecluck ones I was definitly nervous so I wasnt playing my best. Still got a lot to learn but think my games improving. Being new to the fighting scene it is quite the experience. I really need to be more social in any future events I attend.

You’re Francis? Good shit yesterday man. Also, it was cool eating with you.

Thanks to Gameworks for holding the tournament, and big thanks to Brian and David for running a bracket for 11 hours straight! Everybody was really chill, and it was great to see some many people hyped for the tournament.

Fighting games all day was great. It was almost like a test of endurance once we got to those last few hours, and I wasn’t even playing. I think I played more Marvel yesterday than the last few months combined.

Edit: 1 hour, 27 minutes left by the way.

that was fun, I was kind of burnt out on iv before that, I thought I’d get crushed by everyone

Hm, still no luck on the vids from this? I’m wanting to gain some reference material for playing Chuns. Anyone know the guy that was recording? He was wearing a blue jacket, glasses and a ponytail… i think.

HI Guys

I know that some of you wanted to see who else played and how the brackets looked for the entire tournament. So I turned my excel page with the results of all the brackets into a JPEG.

here is the link - you will have to mouse over the picture to enlarge it with most browsers.

Have a good day
Brian

Oh nice, thanks Brian.

Thumbs up.

Man I feel like such a fucking buster, going to the winners finals in both my pools only to lose 2 matches in a row in each of them? FUCK, I know I could have won my first pool had I not been stupid enough to pick Ryu the first time LOL. And getting Dan’s bracket first and then rebuying into Coles pool? LOL.

Also on the rebuy thing I didn’t care that much about it cause I did it also, but the real reason I rebought over wanting to win was cause I was sick of standing around for 6 hours + doing nothing but killing my neck watching matches lol.

Only problem about that rule is the fact that ONLY the people in the beginning pools have the advantage of re-buying. Nobody in my pool or even second to last pool had a chance to re-buy because by that time it was already to late.

The idea is interesting though. I think i might inter grade a better system. Like have one bracket completely empty then maybe allow 2 to 3 people that went two and out the option to re-buy. That way even the last few pools will get a chance to re-buy.

Anyway just an idea, its a crazy idea and its only for more money. Really only benefits the top players hehe.
