I fail to see the problem with Gamestop’s using default controllers. Every Gamestop I’ve seen has system kiosks with the controllers and everything locked in. It would actually take a lot longer to let people bring in their own controllers rather than just use the default ones set up.
The problem is controllers blow.
then don’t sign up. Problem solved. They probably want round 1 to be a one-day thing. Having everyone bring in sticks and such… then customize them before each round in what is most likley a single elimination tourney will make that very difficult.
Plus, most of the players are gonna be casual pad players. The best solution would be to use two of the Madcatz fightpads as they are the same layout for both PS3 and 360. Doing this gives people a chance to test out the product and buy it if they like, plus, the tournament would go faster on two systems with the same control scheme.
If they stick with default controls, deal with it. It makes no sense for them not to.

Besides it probably being single elim and on pads, I’m guessing you won’t be able to switch your character. 
I called a gamestop yesterday in Salem, New Hampshire (the downstairs GS if you live around here)
They said they’re having the tournament there! I’m confused on a couple things, the CSR I was talking to confused me a bit and I’m hoping you GS employees can help me out!
- I don’t know when to get my CE SFIV. I thought it released on the 17th, but I think I heard from this Gamestop “it’ll ship on the 17th, we’ll get it the 18th” so am I to pick up SFIV on the 18th (no midnight release here)??
- Then he was even more vague about the date. I thought he said it was two days after SFIV is released, so I don’t know if he’s talking about the 19th or 20th. Also, getting more confused because I see people saying it’s the 21st here!
No biggie if you can’t answer these questions, I’m going to call back again if worst comes to worst.

Generally speaking, the dates that GS uses are ‘shipping’ dates. Unless an item is street dated, which SFIV is not for some reason, it will ship on that date then come in the next day. Occasionally they surprise us by shipping early, but that’s not guaranteed. :wtf:
My tournament is being held on the 21st and I have yet to receive any ‘official’ rules for it and unless I do, I will be bringing my own sticks in for the customers to use. (FS3 if you care)

also i went to the site and nothing was said about the sweepstakes yet.
either way, i’m sure the fordham gamestop will be the most likely gamestop to do a tournament in the bronx. if not them it’ll probably be only the 34th street gamestop in manhattan that’ll be having the tournament. I’ll be calling tomorrow to find out

Ohgee, watch those sticks man. I’ve seen what a stick looks like after a masher/kid hulk smashes it after losing to 1 move in the corner. It’s never pretty.
Hmmm I was at a local Play n Trade today and actually had a 3rd strike match with the clerk. Dreamcast was already set up with the game in it. He challenged me and I beat him with Yang, then beasted more with Ryu. He told me about the SF4 tourney that was gonna be held. I will join this!!!

It makes sense in that hardly anyone will be able to pull off supers/ultras/ex on a default pad.
On the flip side though, most areas are going to have nothing but scrubs. Anyone who is intermediate in fighting games would probably be able to destroy them without the use of supers/ultras/ex.
single elimination sounds just fine, only info i’m realy waiting for is what type type of controller/stick they will have, and what the prize is

Not that it applies to me, I wonder if these tournaments aren’t letting foreigners enter. Like if Canadians tried to enter the tournaments. Do you know by chance, ohgee?
Er… wrong side of the country, but I had some Mexicans play in my Halo tournament when it came out.

I was under the impression all gamestops had the same tournament date for round 1 (I thought I read that somewhere) but I’ll call my local GS and check!
