Games That Make You Buy Systems/Early VG Memories Thread

i bought a ps3 because i thought KH3 or Persona 5 were going to be released…

gamecube for SSBM
dreamcast for crazy taxi and JGR
ps2 for mostly the DDR games until i got the arcade machine
xbox for crazy taxi 3 and JSRF
xbox360 for bioshock
wii for Zelda TP

Dont forget the Neo Geo was given to me in the first place. A NG AES wasnt something I had to have, nor would have been the NGCD. I could make due with the SNK games that were ported to popular contemporaries, and by the time Garou was out you had the DC, and after that (SVC Chaos, Last Blade 2, SamSho V) those games were on emulation as soon as they came out.

I ended up buying a 3DS for RE: Revelations, Kid Icarus, and Ocarina of Time 3D.
In the long run, I thought I’d be disappointed with it, and had buyers remorse.
Now, over a year later, I’m pretty happy with it.
I don’t have a lot of games for it, but the ones I do have are damn good games.

I got a Dreamcast just so I could play MvC1.

I got a Gamecube just to play Resident Evil 1 remake.

And I got a 360 just to play Deadrising 1.

The prospect of purchasing a Nintendo 3DS was high when Megaman Legends 3 was announced, and when the Demo came out, it went to must have.

It’s a good thing I didn’t act on impulse and decided to wait it out.

PS1 - MK Trilogy
PS2 - Shadow Hearts: From the New World
Dreamcast - MK Gold
Gamecube - WWE Day of Reckoning
GBA - Breath of Fire, Pokemon Sapphire

I re-purchased a Genesis for Phantasy Star 4.

Does that count?

Sent from my thumbs, using SRK technology.

Sorry I haven’t been giving input, I’m watching way too many threads in order to get notifications for the ones that actually matter.

Sega Genesis - Way way way back in early 1990’s, was at a mall and saw a huge Sonic 1 or 2 demo/speed run tournament with all these older kids/teens all having their game faces on, like it was some major tournament or some shit. Hearing the bgm and how fast this game was, I was through with the NES and had my eyes set on the Genesis.

As for the other consoles, yeah there were games, genres, etc that helped my spending decisions. But nothing as memorable as what I saw when I was a kid.

One of a grand total of less than 10 times of going to Toys R Us I demoed Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure separately. Both were fucking insane in the eyes of a a child in the 90s. Groundbreaking to say the least.

They even had a MK3 cabinet, I thought I was good because I uppercutted someone up a level with Cyrax..

I know that feel viejbro.

I never bought a console for one game until MML3 was announced. I immediately handed my money over despite thinking “this probably is a bad idea knowing Nintendo and their history with the DS.”

Well, I guess Capcom beat Nintendo to the punch. So I learned my lesson.

Nintendo only gets my money once the new F-Zero is actually out, and Capcom doesn’t get all the money they want from me as I will buy their products used.

I buy most of my games used anyway.

starcraft 2 made me buy a new laptop

I begged my parents for a N64 because of Zelda Ocarina of Time,
got an xbox for Halo2,
and bought a 360 for Gears of War.
I’m also seriously thinking of buying a Ps3 for The Last of Us. But im not completely sold on that thought just yet

I can’t even believe I remember this, but I had a mandatory pen pal in like 5th grade or something, and somehow the topic of videogames came up, and they wanted a new system or game or something, and I told the person that what I rarely did (because it feels bad and makes you a brat) is just asking for the same thing over and over.

Reminding me I need to buy that game back and part 2 as well. Just got part 3 not too long ago. And hell yes it counts big time. Phantasy Star was really ahead of it’s time. And all that freaky monster shit was something. Along with the combine spells I think it was and such.

Didn’t Phantasy Star 3 have no RAM left, so they couldn’t have any good backrounds for random battles?

DC at launch just for Sonic Adventure. The fact it became a top choice for fighting games later on was just a bonus.

Seriously? Please explain this.

And didn’t the first print run of Sonic Adventure have a LOT of bad copys? Just something I remembered. Because not long after release I saw a bunch of copys at a flea market for $10 each suddenly. One guy had like around 10 copies for $10 each.

It was just a tidbit I heard from a video by Happy Console Gamer on youtube, good ass channel, one of the best along with Classic Game Room as far as I know.
