Games That Make You Buy Systems/Early VG Memories Thread

Streets of Rage/Pacman- Genesis
Pokemon- Gameboy
Mario 64- Nintendo 64
Crash Bandicoot- PS1
MGS2(Sons of Liberty is frustrating to me now for some reason, I loved this game)- PS2
NBA Live 2001(only time MJ would get licensed for a while)/DVD player(powerhouse system, personal computer status when we still had the Windows 98)… - Xbox

That’s all the comes to mind… got 360 on a whim like 2-3 years after it came out…

Just like with Halo1 and xbox I think it’s safe to assume 99% of wii owners got it for Zelda TP and/or SSBB:rofl:

I own a Wii, and will never own brawl, fuck that game

Oh yeah, I did buy a Wii for Twilight Princess, and a Gamecube for Melee. How about that.

Sigh …I’ll try to stick to reasons I actually got the console. Here we go (In order) :

Console buying reasons

[details=Spoiler]
NES was just given to me as a christmas gift when I was 4. I remember there being Super Mario Bros 1-3, Zelda, Double Dribble, Iron Sword and some others.

Sega Genesis- Sonic was the reason I HAD to have this system and I’ve been an avid sonic fan since.

Gamegear - Given to me with Sonic 2. Good times but my adapter jack was always messed up so I had to “wiggle the cord” to get in to turn on and hold it in that position to keep it on.

Snes- DKC2 and Killer Instinct had me fiendin’. But I didn’t get one til 96.

PS1- was just given to me by my uncle with Tekken 2 in 98. Before that, I think Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and MK3/Trilogy were the main reasons I wanted one.

Saturn - Got this after 2000 for Guardian Heroes (which I played before), Sonic R, and VF2. Saturn games were hard to find in stores by this time.

Gameboy - Super Mario Land 2.

N64- Traded in my Saturn and probably Snes for this. My friend kept letting me borrow his to play Zelda (which is when I started like the series) and after playing Smash Bros. and Jet Force Gemini it was a wrap.

GBColor- Don’t remember how I got this but since it’s debut I just really wanted to play GB games in color (Like Zelda).

Dreamcast - I wanted one since launch for Sonic, Powerstone, RE: Code Veronica, Blue Stinger and Soul Calibur. I finally got money for it to get the DC with Smash Pack Bundle.

Gamecube - Smash Bros. Melee. Had to have it

GBA- Castlevania COTM. This was also shaping up to be the spiritual successor to the 16 bit era. Lots of fun games.

PS2- I wanted this for the system itself. Backwards compatible and a DVD player? Sold. Tekken Tag, DMC, MGS2 and FFX were what impressed me when I played it over friends’ houses.

GBA Player- Playing GBA games on TV?! What?! That shit was godlike. It felt like Super Nintendo PLUS.

Xbox- Never owned and Xbox myself but my Mom’s boyfriend did, so it was in my household. I liked Jet Set Radio Future and MK Deception the most on there.

DS- Jump Superstars and Castlvania DoS.

Xbox 360- Really impressed by DOA4 visuals. But playing Street Fighter 2 online was my main reason for getting this. I posted on Xbox forums to try and get SF Anniversary and Shenmue 2 backward compatible.

Wii - Zelda: TP. Nintendo’s E3 presentation of this system made it the only system I’ve bought on launch so far. I’m not a fan of motion controls anymore, but I like plenty of first party games and the virtual console games.

PS3 - MGS4 Bundle + stimulus check lol. I was also looking forward to FFXIII when I was under the impression it was console exclusive.

PSP - Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max. [/details]

I’d say right now, I’m not really following the PSP vita and would rather get a replacement PSP (mine was stolen) to finish up on some games I wanted to play.

Kingdom Hearts was the only reason I wanted a 3DS when it was announced… I’ll get one eventually as there are a few other games I’ll be down to play on there.

Dreamcast - Dead or Alive 2 and every other fighting game for the system
Original Xbox - Dead or Alive games
Xbox 360 - Dead or Alive 4
PS3 - MGS 4
PS2- Tekken Tag tournament and SSX (great launch title games)
PS1- Tomb Raider
Wii - Tatsunoko vs Capcom
N64 - Mario 64
Snes - Street fighter 2
3DS - Resident Evil Revelations and Kingdom Hearts 3D

you are the 1%

I got a PSX so I can play Alpha 1… Even got that crappy stick.

That was the bomb back in the day.

Bought a Dreamcast for Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and the Agetec with it.

Bought a PS2 for Wild Arms 3… Yeah, go figure. O_o

that game is way too slow for me, and the idea of tripping for no reason just pisses me off

I buy all the Next Gens for Madden.

Well, I didnt like the sticks for it, and I had shitty games:

Fatal Fury 1
Eightman
Metal Slug
Art of Fighting

Also I was maybe 15 maybe 16, with not much personal money. And I KNEW what the Neo Geo was, and I also knew I could never afford any games on that bitch. Games costed more than most systems. Even so, that was the PSX era and I’d rather had been playing SF Alpha, Marvel Super Heroes, MK Trilogy for $40-50 a pop, then even considering dropping hundreds on a single cart. Plus no one wanted to use those sticks. I had rather played KoF 95 on PSX with its (literal) 7 minute load times, than buy it for AES for what would have amount to 2 pay check when I was 16. Plus AST music for disc version…

I once tried to trade that shit in at EB… clerk: “Uhhhh…”

Metal Slug!! Thats one of the classic run & gun greats, rivaling the likes of Contra.

Art of Fighting is ok as well.

Yeah as much as i love them, Neo Geo games were(still are) so retarded expensive, that there is no point in bothering with them. PSOne was easily the better value to put money into.

Still, you could have sold it for at least $100 rather than just giving it away. Same goes for the original owner that gave it to you.

No one said it’s perfect and all the bitching about stages, items, balance, and whatnot have made the game a nightmare to play on a serious level (same thing with Melee) but WHO THE FUCK CARES the game is pure, unfiltered FUN anyone who doesn’t think so must be a robot. Seriously, I feel bad for everyone who bitched about it not being “competitive” because they missed out on some good times.

I’ve had like 6 PS2 just to play one game.

CvS2

when did I say I play on a serious level please tell me

I remember looking at game informer/EGM and literally DROOLING over the previews of Jet Set Radio Future for the old Xbox. I HAD to have it. It did not disappoint in the slightest. I ended up getting several dozen games for it over the years, lots of fighting games and neogeo stuff, Otogi, Gunvalkyrie, Panzer Dragoon, etc, basically all the good games that weren’t a fps. JSRF is the perfect sequel.

After I saw the Sonic Adventure demo kiosk at toys r us I also HAD to have this machine. It was incredible, even if it was just one level.

I got a wii for Twilight Princess and the promises of new awesome Nintendo stuff. Most of it did disappoint. Kirby and Mario Galaxy 1/2 were excellent.

Got a Gamecube about a year before the wii, late bloomer. got it bundled with Melee for $50 new or something like that. It was the only game I really wanted for it anyway. That and Double Dash. Melee was always that game that I played at a friends house and I was so jealous. It was a lot of fun.

Still no games I want for Xbox or 360, Dont play 1st person shooters like MW or Halo, dont play sport or racing games. So what else is there?

my PS2 slim never died. Though same thing can be said about the red ring of death

at that time it was also much cheaper to visit the arcades and play those games as they should be played, instead of spending a fortune for the home version. Arcades were still cheap.

Or you could have bought a more affordable Neo Geo CD system and its games as well, if you didnt bother with loading times.they also had better music

And having to hit the reset button. Now THAT was a good unique idea for real.
