Gamers 4 Christ Sponsorship available. NEW

I guess the religious wrong have self-haters too.

Who knew?

Seriously though, if this is ok I’m gonna get that Mitt Romney money; if not Obama needs to sponsor some marvel tournies. How is that dude gonna get elected as the first black president and he doesn’t even get one “ITS MAAAAAAHVEL BABY” on air anywhere?

If this dude gets in, we can open doors to all sorts of either stupid or awesome.

when they lose, do they explode?

Do you sponsor people in Canada?

Well, this is intriguing…

The way I see it, a name like that is branding its identity so hard it’s not even trying to be subtle or recruit new believers, but probably be more of a gathering point for people for whom christianity is already a major part of their lives and/or local communities - all the way from here, there seems to be a lot of that in some parts of the US.

This is a more intriguing part that inspires a few questions and makes me wonder about some scenarios - say, a G4C-sponsored player doing really well in a MK tournament, but doing it using, say, Kano (cutthroat criminal), Quan Chi or Shang Tsung (evil sorcerors) - that would look kinda bad, almost PR poison, as far as representation for a christian group. The whole notion of “the medium is the message” comes to mind.

Sure, a whole lot of players don’t care or don’t know about stuff like the plots of the games they play, but there’s some symbolic power to it if you’re sufficiently aware, and in scenarios like the above, that sort of thing would probably be pointed out real quick, and maybe undermine the intent of the sponsorship.

Mortal Kombat, of all games, is a particularly interesting case when you take this sort of thing into account - one of its characters, Raiden, is portrayed as a physical god - yet one that is far from omnipotent, and plays more of a guidance role and powerful last resort in the story; in christian terms, role-wise, he’d actually be closer to an angel, so maybe that bullet can be dodged as a matter of terminology. Has G4C given this some thought?

Among the most holy/wholesome characters in MK are Liu Kang and Kung Lao, but they’re stated to be Shaolin monks, whose belief system is explicitely different, yet would still share many moral/ethical principles with christianity - would the stated religion of a character be a bigger issue if used to represent G4C than the character’s moral alignment?

You guys have that code in your site, which is broad enough to cover a great variety of gaming genres, but fighting games are very centered on the characters being used, and mastering just one to a competitive level can take a lot of dedication and time - you might want to research on the characters your sponship candidates intend to use if you don’t want to shoot yourselves in the foot PR-wise.

I don’t think I even have to go into the topic of fatalities, with those being optional. Babalities and “newborn christian” puns are kind of waiting to happen though.

You expect someone who probably just got here or with a rough knowledge of the site to know there’s a christianity thread? Sure, I mean, a guy could spend a while combing the forums to look for it, but these forums are kind of big and every topic in General Discussion was posted in today - I don’t hang around there, but in a forum this populated it may be a fair bet to guess the topic there shift places often, so it may be easy to miss one that might interest you if you don’t look beyond the first page, or fail to do so at the right time.

As for the booth/prayer at events thing, maybe they just want to hold prayers or bible studies in their hotel rooms like some players do with their pre-tournament-match training sessions? If so, then it wouldn’t get on anyone’s faces about it.

I request the separation of church and esports

Thanks for your support and mature response.

christian rock, christian rap, christian raves, christian DDR, christian fighting game sponsors… what the hell is up with all these subgenres of subgenres? Why can’t you people be content with the original content itself, why do you feel so compelled to make everything about your religion?

serious question. I am not prejudiced against any religions but I also don’t go around starting groups like “Gamers for Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstruction”.

In terms of the sponsorship, I don’t think it’s a bad idea, but I do think you might want to look a little more into how the FGC works. From what I can tell, G4C seems really involved with the FPS community, but the FGC is a completely different beast. Stuff like using online for a gauge of player skill just doesn’t work, as the FGC is a primarily offline thing.

Actually, I’m a Christian and I agree with you. I think it’s a little ridiculous how there are so many sub-subcultures; we really don’t need Christian versions of everything (and let’s be honest, more often than not the Christian version of a regular product usually involves a huge dip in quality). Instead of having a Christian sponsorship, why not just be a Christian that joins with an existing sponsor?

whaat?? Doesn’t seem very pious to drop e and grind on barely clothed sluts

I beg to differ.

Religion poisons everything…
Christianity has enough political power as it is, can they not fuck with our gaming tournaments please…

If this “sponsor” wants to help the players, he could do it without including religion in it, but no, he wants to specifically get in as a religious entity so they can include religion in tournaments, and that’s fucking stupid. He has a religious agenda behind his “sponsorship”

Christians have plenty of places to meet without enforcing segregation in our tournaments or community.

Demon Hunter is awesome, you shut your mouth.

I was referring less towards the music (which is actually good), and more towards stuff like the Christian version of Guitar Hero (Guitar Praise I think), and other products.

^^^ blames Jesus for missing his links in tournament play

sure, if people were disrupting a tournament and harassing people and they were from ANY organization, they should be asked to leave immediately.

But what is so bad if players of ANY commonality want to hang out and spend time together, and share knowledge an insight about a common interest? Shoot, if they had the FGC car club, there wouldn’t be any problem with that.

But this kind of thinking is called PREJUDICE. Your excluding a group of people based upon your preconceived notions, and burning them at the stake for something they haven’t done yet.

Aren’t there serious problems with the KJV? lol religion

he would pick storm and spend the entire match running away

I’ll go on the record saying that I’m torn between an honest or trolling response.
