Pissed Alejandro said “You can push for ethics in VG journalism without the hashtag” but let’s look at the facts:
No neutral or anti-GG is calling out the journalists who made a stink. The only one putting them on blast are GGers, the only ones digging deep and finding more things are GGers. Pissed Alejandro didn’t do shit, neutrals didn’t do shit, and antis sure as hell didn’t do shit, they actually defend the corruption blindly because for them it’s all “us vs them” far left politics and everyone from their “side” gets a free pass to do anything. Like how tumblr peeps are so big on helping abuse victims and and getting triggered and oppression and racism but when one of them is the abuser or the racist they turn a blind eye, and we’ve seen maybe 50 different instances of this already…
"But I’ve complained about Capcom on disc DLC and buggy Assassin’s Creed!"
Want a cookie? That’s easy since there’s no risk for doing it. You can shit on AAA companies but they cannot hurt you back. How about calling out the corrupt journalists who will repay you with slander and libel splattered all over the news? How about calling out the specific women involved in the corruption who can falsely accuse you with “harassment” and “soggy knees”? If you really cared you’d do it in areas where there’s actual risk involved. These are the areas that need your voice the most.
Even if some people have complained vocally outside of it (not that I’ve seen any outside of usual forum rants!) it’s the hashtag and the GG hubs that have let people organize better and made the voice loud and consistent for the first time ever. So loud that the media are attacking with ad hominems out of fear. Think about it- If it’s just one unimportant whistle blower then they won’t fear it hence they’ll ignore it. The fact that they are keep writing about their spin on a daily basis shows how much of a threat to them a unified organization of consumers is.
The nature and the very existence of GG does not matter. Because it does not change the blatant cases of corruption that were exposed, but if you couldn’t be bothered to do something about them yourself, then IMO you are not in a position to criticize GGers who are getting their hands dirty.
Kind of? I mean, when it comes down to it, what can bloggers do? Slander and libel, that doesn’t actually hurt anyone. And, I don’t know if you recall, but Capcom kept sweeping criticism of DmC under the rug and blamed the fans, misrepresenting criticisms levied and out right lied about the fan outrage. That’s libel as well. There is no more or less danger calling out a bunch of bloggers or a AAA dev. Worst case, they try to point the finger elsewhere or back at the fans/readers. There is no real risk involved. What does become risky is when people rallied under one banner or another starts doing things like calling work places to get people fired. I’m sure there are some fans out there crazy enough to defend their brand to that degree, though I don’t think we’ve seen that yet. At least I hope not I’m sure though, there have been swattings for any number of reasons, and fanboyism wouldn’t surprise me one bit as being one of them.
Unless your name is Milo, having a bunch of results from a simple Google search say that you are a misogynist and hate group member really hurts your career prospects.
Capcom will not call your workplace and try to get you fired. So even if we put the doxxing etc. aside there’s that risk. (Which is why basing the watchdogs on chan anonymity is perfect.)
Also please link to where Capcom themselves, officially, slandered gamers, because it was journalists who called them names for not liking DmC.
Yo, in 2nd edition D&D dwarves can’t be wizards tho. They can also tell which way they’re going while underground and probably have scaled down nether regions. You never know what surprises lurk down there tho.
I keep hearing the Law and Order episode ended up being funny as hell, in a cringe sort of way. Filled with the most absurd plot pieces and terrible puns that could even make James Chen cringe.
I’m watching the episode now holy shit lmao… No wonder no one got pissed about it. It’s so ridiculous and over the top you can’t do anything but laugh.
spoilers ahead.
Ice T is talking to “Anita” (hoop earrings included!) about her game and says “I read on Kotaku that it’s better than Civ5”
The gangs of gamers who “don’t want women in gaming” are on “redchan”…
“Anita” is doing an interview and the interviewer is asking her if the flack she’s getting is based around misogyny and she answers “I’m not here to talk have a feminist debate, I just want to talk about my game.”
Fake Anita confirmed superior to real Anita.
The terrorists made a video with masks saying they’ll take care of her and the social justice warriors.
They can’t trace them because they upload it through the “darknet”. It’s like the internet… but dark!
Fake Anita has balls is not giving a shit about the real threats. Compared to real Anita which cancels speeches and cries on twitter after the FBI told her it’s fake and she’s safe.
Check out what one of the writers of the show retweeted:
I guess they must have realize the entire episode was nothing but a parody of the Gamergate situation has a whole (at least that’s what I’m getting from the reactions to said episode).
