No he is right. We all hate the smash crowd.
I think he was mad cause he was expecting more smash heads at tourneyplay but ppl flaked out i think.
I know the smash crowd and yeah they are pretty ridiculous. He runs their 40 man brackets yet they try to tell him how to seed players regularly even though he knows the entire scene and keeps all the results. Also, they only play brawl and get hyped and demand new fighters upon the release then drop it a week after the release. If you check the smash boards now you’ll see a bunch of them raving about how their gonna beast in Blazblue LOL
The other dilemma is that the SF4 scene is respectful and more mature but we have shitty attendance.
Needs more jailbait. Emo ones.
Do they have a DDR machine?
That’s all it takes right?
yes I talk to Chris every time they have a SF4 event. The problem is not with him and the venue, WE the players are at fault. Disregarding the early start time this sunday, but consistently we have had low turn outs for this place and its a great venue. Other cities would be beating down our doors to enter but here people come out randomly.
Just to add to this, Chris never really took anything from the pot in the beginning cause we promised him high turn outs…which we should have over 40 every tourney just like preppys. Te tourney yesterday started at around 2:30 which is what time it always starts over at gameclucks, nothing has really changed.
If 1-2 is to early for folks, if I changed it to 6pm, realistically how many of you can make it out? I would like to work on our community and see what is a good time for the majority so we can at LEAST have tourney with over 20 heads.
Evo moments away, everyone better be getting hyped and playing hard.

Is it possible sunday is a bad day? I actually was totally planning on making it but UFC on saturday + had some beers, came home home at like 1 and played some resident evil 5 for a while and then i woke up at 2pm on sunday and thought “Shit it already started” so I didnt go.
Dunno if its the same type of shit for other people. Its like REALLY close to my apartment too so I have little excuse but I also always cram shit like doing laundry for the week, food shopping and paying bills or running errands into sunday so making the tourney later wouldn’t really help that for me probably
I’m going to start making it out to these tourneys. I honestly just forget to add the events to my calendar, so that’s part of the reason.
Man I think that advertisement is a reason why numbers aren’t as high as they could or should be. For example, Zach edits the date for the next gathering in the thread title, so everybody who views the NW can see when the next event is. With Gameclucks it’s hard to know when an event is and what time it’s starting because you have to delve into the thread to find it. Yeah it seems like a silly reason, but I bet it’s detrimental and I bet a lot of people don’t know these when these tournaments are taking place. Sunday might not be the greatest day either but I think it’s the best option available, especially on weekends where there’s a Zach tourney as well.
I have asked him in the past and he says Fri-Sat is usually booked solid everytime with Smash tournaments, and being he pulls in the numbers, he won’t be moving the tournament days around until we at least show some sort of attendance on 1 sunday maybe.
I told him that Zach’s biweekly gatherings have anywhere from 30-50 people, that’s 50-100% more than what has ever shown up at GameWorks.
Chris is trying to get this area going and would really want to see SF4 take over, but we aren’t committing.
Personally, the start time of 5-6PM would be perfect for me so I don’t have to call in/request days off from work to make it to every GC tournament. I bring my set-up every tournament so it usually rolls really quick. Especially with how many TV’s and xboxes are already there, we could get that ish down SUPA KWICK!
I’d like to attend sometime, and a later start time would help me out since i work sundays until 5:30. So being realistic, 6pm wouldn’t be good for me but its definately a step up, I could POSSIBLY make it in time (factoria to lynnwood). I haven’t been out yet because its a bit of a trip away and because I usually work while you guys are running brackets.
I really enjoy the direction this thread is going.
Waking up late is not attendance!
I’ll try to spend more time in making this thread better so no confusion occurs. And a later start time would be good.
I was trying to go seriously, i just got hit with some fevers real hard
Problems:
-
No definitive time/date for the start of the tournament. People from our scene have shown up (doing that mythical “attendance” thing) then LEFT because of like, three hour delays and shit.
-
Smash players.
-
It’s pretty fuckin’ far north, when a pretty large amount of the scene is actually fuckin’ far south.
-
Smash players on Adderall.
I’m starting to add these events/gatherings on my calendar.
I drive from downtown seattle so if anyone wants to get picked up along the way etc, I don’t mind.
Basically, a later start time, no smash players in sight or audible range, win the tournament for the gas money home…
Sounds good?
There is just no love for Lynnwood. I mean, what is it at most a 20-40 minute drive for most of the scene? I drive 30-50 minutes every two weeks to Zach’s because it’s worth it. Half of the scene has never gone to GC for a tournament yet. :\
The main reason the time before last sucked was because it was TourneyPlay, and Chris bit off more than he could chew at that point. Which is exactly why he’s asking us for input on how to make things better/right for US, for a GOOD tournament.
But in all seriousness, I’d like it if people could actually come out to these things. I mean shit, Cole drives from Bellevue, PaulLee drives from Mt. Vernon for gods sake. This shit would be awesome if we got so many people there that we TAKE OVER the place. How can we pretend that we are better than the Smash community when they average 40 people a tournament? We average about 15*…
Edit:
*At GameClucks tournaments
I barely have time to go to Zach’s and hold my own sessions. No way in hell I am gonna put up with gamers on a Sunday which is really the only day of the week I have to myself. Time is money.
Out of the 3 or 4 times ive been to a GC tourney, only once has there been smash players. So you dont really have to worry about them being there, if that is really whats keeping more people from going. There might be a few Halo players there, but they are usually yelling at each other… which is pretty funny heh
