lets see, lets compare a game with rdiculous cartoonish animations that are beyond “reality” to another game that tries to simulate something more realistc, im not saying that gg/bb animations are perfect, im pretty aware that have inconsistencies, where some animations are good and anothers are not so good, but many of you are trying to make it look like if it was the most terrible thing that human kind have done
3S & Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Alpha 3
3rd Strike
CvS2
Blazblue
Those are the best sprites.
I couldn’t see the voting buttons, but SSFII HD Remix wins by default for me. Other than a bit of casual 3S and Alpha Anthology, HDR is the only sprite based game I’ve played in about the last 10 years.
CPS3 games always gat it right, but since this thread is open to any answer, I like Odin Sphere’s Sprites
now that you mention it, indeed, odin sphere and the other game on wii muramasa i think are the ones that easily have the best sprites out on the market
MK1

GG and BB are realistic? Nani???
Yes, saying GG and BB animations aren’t as good as other games is certainly the same as saying it’s the worst thing ever created.
You do know just about everyone in that game is missing at least 50% of their animation frames?
If you’re going to be a Capcom/Marvel nutrider, at least mention the games with ACTUAL animation, like X-Men:COTA, Marvel Super Heroes, or WarZard.
i guess that the " " quote around reality was to sutil for you
compared to vs where all the bodies stretch to imposible levels in a cartoonish way, gg/bb have a more “realistic” aproach, and again this is only relative to the char and his role on the game, comic chars like faust are an example of why i use the " " around the world
i have not said that gg animations are as good as 3s (wich is not that extraordinary imo) but 3s is a game where all the char reuse all the animations on many of their moves, also that various chars share a lot of the moves since they are “clones”
there is also the thing that i posted earlier, gg is a game where its cancels are heavily strict on the frames of the move that can be done, having a lot of frames per move wouldnt help them making them easier.
and on a final thing, vs and 3s where done by capcom (a big company) in a time where they could expend a lot of money on doing the animations of the game (though vs has not that many frames compared to gg to beguin wit buts some of you seems to think that way ) they did this in orther to differentiate them to the other games that populated the arcades back in the 90’s where the competition was high, and in orther to atract new players to their games they needed to do that, now compare it to a company that is very small and that depends of publisher in orther to release their games.
May I point you to this unfinished animation that you didn’t take notice too.

It is still better then those finished ones from Guilty Gear.
Development in the 90’s is completely different. 20+ people was considered a big team when the first Darkstalkers was done(and still had better animation then GG and BB).
3rd Strike
KOF13
Last Blade 2
Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
3rd Strike, for animation and all over continuity of style between all characters and stages. Whole game along with the music just feels artistic.
But for just pure quality i’d say KOFXIII, it just looks very… HD I guess.
I think the way Necro, Elena, and Q are made are the reasons why I think Capcom should make another 2D fighting game. I would get into Warzard, on How perfectly executed Hauzer was made, or how Spiral on the Marvel series is animated, but damn…Capcom you gotta bring that quality back
you are so wrong about this!
they where hand drawn, downscaled!
plus im going to go with sf3:NG and second impact because i noticed shortcuts with 3s.
fallen angels is my second choice!
3rd im going to go with KOF12/13 because of the amount of detail and animation put in the sprites as well as the backround!
Art Of Fighting 3. Big gorgeous sprites that are splendidly animated. But the rest of the game was meh.
Also I’m gonna throw in a wildcard and say The Rumble Fish. That game had a pretty unique appearance.
Samurai Shodown III, mediocre game but some amazing sprites and animation.
3s, is so fluid and a fucking joy to watch in motion.
Melty Blood is similar in terms of animation quality.
I’m not sure that KoF XII counts, since the sprites were based of off 3d models. It still looks fantastic, though.
Vampire Saviour and 3s come to mind for me.
3rd Strike is the game that has the better graphics and sprites overall. The gameplay is better than most of the games they have right now. 3rd Strike will always be the game in my books. Beautiful graphics and soundtrack. Suits the game perfectly.
