I have to pay my first month of rent by like the 31st? I have no idea if I have to drive up and give it to them, if so, I’ll go early so I can make it on a saturday or sunday for a meetup. Gotta play my Sagat in person.
Thankfully I’m not terribly concerned about his sweep as a whole. The op selects are what kill me, but that’s because I don’t fully know how they work and thus can’t think of good counters or ways to trick the system into giving the other, more unsafe option (Tatsu, sweep, etc) on the fly.
I don’t see how “really good” equates to balanced. I think of solid characters like Ryu and Rose as balanced. Really good is… Really good. Granted, balance means quite a bit to me.
I don’t see how my assessment is incorrect or how I’m giving him too much credit. My thing about Akuma is that he can run any gameplan. He doesn’t have to run the vortex to be successful. I could play Ryu/Ken style gameplans. I could get the lifelead and take no risks (ie Prince Martinez). Maybe me playing him will change that thought process.
I had a thought. Why we don’t just make XBL or PSN rooms strictly for Gainesville/Ocala players, like myself. For those who can’t make the meetings, it would be a great idea to bring in new people. We would have it on a specific night where they can’t make it to the gatherings, but still want to play.
I would if I got it. My computer can’t handle 98 UM or 02 UM, but I plan on getting 13 when it comes out. One of my co-workers has already challenged me.
Having a dedicated online night could be fun but I don’t see the reason to keep “outsiders” out of lobbies. I have a lot of friends from out of town that are beastly in the game that can usually offer things to us.
Besides, I hate playing in lobbies larger than 3 in SF and lack of spectating in Marvel makes anything other than 1v1 a waste of time.
Just get our tags and send invites when you see us online.

I will tell you exactly what OS’s im doing and why. but i want it to be up to you to find out what you should do to beat them. i think part of the fun of this game is experimenting in order to beat what seems cheap. and it builds a stronger player to be able to come up with his own counters
i think most of akumas matchups are 5-5 and 5.5-4.5. He probably has about 5 7-3’s and 5 6-4’s. he has 1 3-7 match-up. I think that’s a balanced character.
some matches are played turtling and some rushdown, just like any other character. vs charge characters, akuma turtles a lot more. vs dhalsim and sagat akuma plays the rushdown role. if you’re talking about akuma being viable without the complete vortex, this is true. he’s viable, but he’s worse than ryu/ken. It’s the reason hamilton switched from akuma in the first place. he didn’t have full knowledge of akuma’s mixup game and there were many tools of his that he didn’t use. using akuma without a vortex is like using adon w/o instant air jaguar kicks, or using fei long without fake crossups, or using cammy w/o tiger knee cannon strike. You don’t need it, but every little bit still makes a difference in the match. Its what lets gamerbee, mago, and sako turn viable characters into tournament winners. im not going to argue to death that akuma is a fair character. its really pointless. for crying out loud i won 1 tournament. if you still think he’s broken then im okay with that. i think balrog’s jab is broken, but i went in the lab and i have a counter hit setup to deal with 1 normal in the entire game
I’m not arguing or complaining (ish). I’m wanting to understand the character and discussions like this are very informative. I understand more about him now than I ever did. I appreciate that. I told you: you winning isn’t what concerns me. You’re VERY good and deserve every bit of recognition (positive or negative… Lol) you get. Hell, I’m happy about that. I get to learn from the man now

EDIT: all even or advantageous matches and no 4-6s (one 3-7) isn’t balanced pimp. That’s… A minute point though.

I need more Akuma experience, I’m getting blown up by Akumas no where near Petey’s level. I gotta play Petey 45 matches in a row too at some point and get a mic. Does anyone have a semi-competent Vega or Blanka they’ve been trying that I can play against? I don’t really get those matches because they’re so gimmicky.
I play a really pokey vega and the trolliest blanka.
Last night I got blown up by a sagat as ibuki… found out the hard way that she has ass for normals.
Oh yeah, there’s a bunch of Ibuki’s in Tampa/St. Pete. Without a knockdown, its so easy for Sagat. After the knockdown though…he’s so big its alot harder to know where to block the vortex than say Rose or a normal sized character.
Fear not, scrubs! My return a month from now will be the end of your free-ness!

Aren’t there a couple of Vega and Blanka players in the Tampa area? Like Rob, I also play a poke-y Vega and my Blanka is pretty gimmicky (then again, these characters are fairly one-dimensional IMO).
