GAH GRAKH GAH! (Victory is Mine!) Official Firebrand Discussion Thread!

There’s no reason to only have Doom or Viper , it’s perfectly reasonable to have both. Viper is IMO Firebrand’s best partner once he’s on offense since she sets up his best unblockables and converts his hits into far more damage. That said a supporting space control assist of some kind is vital to getting everything possible out of Firebrand whether it be more lock down oriented like drones or movement forcing like Vajra.

Drones is such a bloody good assist for firebrand (granted its just a very good assist in general). If you are able to confirm they will be blocking the drones on the ground it is pretty much a free hit for firebrand. Keeps them pinned - instand overhead, drone hits, free combo. Not to mention all the other mixups you can do with it when you call it out (Demon missle mixups are ridiculous). Also one of the for his unblockable.

I have been running Zero/Firebrand/Sentinel and this team has to be one of the most frustrating teams to play against. As I play it I can just feel the frustration levels of the other player. Wesker is pretty much free for this team he literally can’t do anything once drone pressure starts.

I am so cheap.

Yea I’m running Doom/Firebrand/Dog atm. Still messing around with stuff. I like the idea of using Viper over Doom for the same reason you mentioned. She seems like the best partner for him on offense, and I feel like her solo offense is better than Doom’s. I think ultimately I’ll end up Viper/Firebrand/Sentinel, or just being a fraud and using team Chrisis :stuck_out_tongue: But I’m trying to learn the basics of one character at a time, and I’m focussing on Firebrand atm. My Doom and Dog are pretty good from vanilla, and its lucky that cold star is really good for Firebrand, and Doom is just generally better, so they actually fit pretty well.

Doom does good damage, which allows me to DHC into firebrand and usually kill off the opposing point character. Then I can set up an unblockable with cold star on the incoming character. Biggest problem after this is that if I want to convert the unblockable into big damage, I’m forced to go for a TAC, since I will be in the corner and unable to get the raw tag setup with Doom. If I can find a way to get it normally (doesn’t look promising) then I’ll probably stick with Doom. But after having a play around with Viper it seems like she fits what my gameplan is better than Doom is.

Dog vs Sentinel vs Strider I haven’t even thought about yet (much). I think any one of the three will be fine.

Plus if I go Viper/Brand/Dog I can pick all Yellow colours, which statistically more awesome than any of the other colour combinations.

But yea, one reasonably long post later I’ll end on “Sorry for not putting this in the team thread”

I could see all of those teams ending up as pretty damn good, I’d opt toward mine of course, though Sentinel is pretty miraculous too. I’m the least for Dog mainly because of the limited full screen game as far as assists are concerned, but still a really scary set up you got going there!

Yeah fuck everything else u said because seriously, this is all that matters. I wish I could find a color scheme that is perfect! I haven’t found a good team and color scheme that is suitable for my tastes yet.

I’m super disappointed that I can’t get this tech to work as I’ve been fiddling around with Firebrand (m missile)/Modok (lazer or shield)/ Doom (hidden Missiles).

I actually only picked up firebrand because A) I wasn’t finding great synergy with Captain America/Modok B) I wanted a character that could put an opponent in the corner quickly for a MODOK TAC or just mixups (like captain America).

The one thing I dont like about firebrand is that I feel I’m forced to play hidden missile assist because I need a way to set up pressure or unblockables, even if missiles hasn’t worked as well as I like to. Doing that forces me to play beam with MODOK because I dont know what other assist I can use with modok to help firebrand’s command dash mixups or keep his demon missile safe.

I guess my team isn’t very synergistic but its hard for me to go elsewhere because the past week or 2 I’ve been playing firebrand I really enjoy the character and even though I’m much better with cap or spencer or wesker, I don’t see myself jumping to “better” characters simply because Firebrand is just more fun. granted, he doesn’t have a lot of vitality to make mistakes but II guess I rather lose playing something i find fun then just racking up wins by rolling my face using spencer.

What are your outlooks on your character choices? do you guys feel like Firebrand has a strong possibility of being top tier? I’m sure we’ve just touched the surface but many of his pressure tools seem very unsafe and he’s very high risk low reward (at least for me) at this point

I just starated expiermenting tonight with Lawyer/Firebrand, and my goodness. We all know how good Lawyer’s Press the Witness Assist is, but when you manage to land it, it’s EASY to go straight into Bon Voyage and start your BnB for an easy touch-of-death combos.

Not to mention that your opponent HAS to block Press the Witness since punishing it is out of the option, meaning you have a free ride on Demon Missile C for another unblockable. Just another reason why Laywer is worth picking up for shenanigans.

IMO, j.H or j.L. j.L if you’ll be really close after the Hell Dive - no use in waiting extra frames for your attack. Otherwise j.H for the option select.

Ok, So I only quoted the bits I’ll comment on to make it easier to read. I write walls of texts. Apologies in advance. TL/DR’s are totally acceptable.

As for Dooms assists, the best one to use is, more often than not, plasma beam. Just given that its the fastest of Doom’s assists and dominates the ground means you will have a much easier time pushing them to the corner and starting your mixups.

Something else I’ve been toying with is actually using Doom Rocks. Usually you don’t see it used because missiles and beam are generally better, but it gives you a few unique things with firebrand. At full screen, its slow enough and durable enough to function like drones, but not QUITE as good. You can do similar crossup mixups with the Rocks assist as you can with drones. (Instant j.A + assist xx qcb+m, or call assist, dp+m etc) Those are basic but surprisingly useful. In the CORNER however, it’s similar to Amaterasu’s Cold Star assist. It will hold them in place long enough to charge an unblockable. Not as reliable as Cold Star, since it doesn’t last as long, and there is a SMALL space between when the rocks finish and the unblockable comes out that a super could tag you, but its difficult for the opponent to do so. Easy as hell to set up as well. Rocks is kind of a jack-of-all trades assist for Firebrand if he needs multiple things that you wouldn’t get from your team. A bit of drones, a bit of cold star, but not better than either.

Basically, if you have an assist that sets up unblockables, I would run plasma beam. If you’re looking for something to set them up, but don’t exclusively want to run a lockdown assist, give rocks a try and see how you feel. Like I say, rocks is a really good assist, but generally not used because the other 2 are better. For Firebrand, you might get a bit more utility out of rocks if you aren’t running a standard lockdown assist.

Right, next question. Firebrand is actually really safe if you’re using the right tools and assists. He negates pushblock, his Bon Voyage is safe on block, he can be an asshole and sit in the corner of the screen shitting fireballs down onto his opponents, he has mobility out the ass. All in all I think hes really strong due to his toolset. Low reward I can totally see where you’re coming from. His damage is pretty crap, but if it was higher, he would straight up be the most broken retardedness in this game. The thing is, damage can come from a lot of sources. Sure, firebrand deals low damage, but if you catch a couple of characters with low air mobility, or even if you just catch someone off guard, he can chain unblockable that shit until the other team is dead. You DO have to work your ass off with him though. You have to pick your gaps really well, and not get predictable with your mixups. Hes strong, but hes not braindead strong like say, Wesker, or Vanilla Wolverine.

Posted separately so I don’t mix it up with that last wall of text.

If you raw tag Doom after a corner Bon Voyage, the only thing you can link is a Level 3. The timing is REALLY strict though. Not impractical, but takes some time to get used to. Good if you aren’t going to be able to kill a character with a Firebrand -> Doom DHC. But yea, damage not bad, but not amazing. about 800-850k depending on the combo you used with Firebrand. Situational imo, but something worth having.

I really want a gif of Firebrand’s standing animation with the text “Haters gonna hate” on it

Firebrand is too classy for memes.

Fire brand is incredibly classy indeed. Also Karsticles, the reason I was thinking A is situational is if the C connects and I command dash cancel down to negate advancing guard at point blank I get to combo after it instead of mix up which is very bloody spiffy. <3

I didn’t see Chrisis or anyone mention this, but you guys probably have already found out. If you cancel a normal jump into command dash qcb+M xx H it hits overhead twice most of the time but it looks tricky. It doesn’t look like it will because he’s so close to the ground but the second hit comes out.

Good to know No_Cigar! Just cause I spend lab time doesn’t mean I’ll find the same thing as other people do. It’s always better to share information so we can build up the fact that this character is bullshit more quickly!

That’s an interesting idea. I’ll have to mess with that.

The first hit of his jump C has some sexy block/hit stun on it and lets you do very silly things. In luminous body you can 214A cancel his jump B and continue comboing too!

Haha, Next time i go on I’ll check, I think I am close to getting the rainbow title, If I remember ill post it

Oh, worry not, I already know his rainbow title. Thanks anyway.

I still haven’t found his 10-mission title, though.

I’m assuming that there’s no list of characters that can get out of the Firebrand unblockable setup on an incoming character?

There’s no list because it depend on which assist you use.
