GAH GRAKH GAH! (Victory is Mine!) Official Firebrand Discussion Thread!

Sup guys I have been loving the firebrand recently and I have enjoyed this thread as well. I have also found a kind of cool exchange nuance in firebrands arsenal. After hitting the dive kick in the air and canceling flight with QCB + L you can get in an exchange as brand is dropping to the ground but before he actually touches down. I feel like this would be pretty hard to tech if you havent seen it before.

Im currently running Brand Sent Akuma, The sent brand synergy is obvious with the unblockable setups off of drones, and i am able to get some decent mixups off of the tatsu assist.

Any one else rum brand and akuma?

There is no magneto in that video.

It was helpful bro, nice match.

I love Fireb/Viper sinergy, damage is insane.

I need to ask you guys a favor. You see, I still haven’t gotten this game.

Could you please list which are all of Firebrand’s titles for me? I know his rainbow one, but none other.

^ This, with luminous body, or X factor, is insane.

So is there any reason to go for that loop? Like how much damage does it do? How much meter does it build? And does it scale? I mean its a lvl 3, but its a utility lvl 3 so you never know. At least there is potential for combo possibilities, hopefully it develops as time goes by.

Just tested, Vajra assist can be used to keep Firebrand’s super safe on block if used outside the corner against people who don’t have incredibly fast horizontal BS. This means you can punish assists for massive amounts of damage in a safe way!

Looks to do decent enough damage for 3 bars. A good reason to go for it is that the helper will help open up, and that’s probably an optimal combo to go for if you get a hit. Probably builds alot of meter too, but there is no reason why it shouldn’t scale.

However the most important reason to go for that loop, is to style on somebody.

Yea I guess I was being a little silly when I was wondering if it scaled. Is it a rather comical loop though, and firebrand just generally looks like a troll so its rather fitting. Would still like to know maxed out numbers on that combo, ill see if I can pull it off in training mode when I get home next week.

You played very well on stream, it was sad to see someone criticize your play after the grand finals, as you clearly know what you are talking about… You are very patient with drunk people lol.

Magus is a friend of mine I hadn’t seen in awhile, he’s a great guy, just let’s it all out when he’s drunk. XD He was trying to get a rise out of me but I respect everyone! <3

so how does firebrand beat virgil, ghost rider, wesker, nova, and Hawkeye?

Vergil seems pretty straight forward, a fusion of fireball zoning and close in pressure. Ghost Rider can’t confirm into anything against high air Firebrand at all so feel free to hover at the top opposite corner of the screen spitting fireballs, activate flight then cross over and repeat, it gets pretty miserable for ghost rider. Wesker you need to figure out what shuts down how they want to play the most? Some it’s about pressuring and keeping them from ever setting things up, others die to the war of attrition with gun versus the superior spit fire. Need more experience in the other 2. >.<

I’m having trouble with starting offense with Firebrand. In particular Chris/Hawkeye/Sentinel. Especially when drones get out, its like I’m guaranteed to take a considerable amount of chip (team i’ve been trying is Firebrand/Modok/Doom). Jump back air fireball M was helping a little against Chris but hawkeye is a problem and Chris’ normals just own Firebrand. trying to figure out how to outzone him.

Chris has a reasonable weakness to anything above him. Fighting Chris is similar to how Chrisis said to fight Ghost Rider. Not a hell of a lot he can do if you’re sitting up there spitting fireballs until he gets frustrated and makes a mistake. Chris is pretty ugly if he gets anything going on the ground though, and you need to be careful calling your assists or they’re going to get a big fucking magnum bullet to the face. Keep an eye out for when you can punish the robot. A fully mashed Dark Flame is a big chunk of damage on the sent assist. But with your team you might find it hard covering yourself if you’re wanting to jump up and lol a big purple flame at Sent’s head. Not sure how safe Modok’s super are, but if you’re holding your meter then it might be worth a DHC for safety if the Sent assist is giving you a lot of trouble. I don’t want to be an advocate for dumb hail mary supers though, so use your better judgement here. And truth be told, if you’re fighting Chris from above, then the Sent assist wont be giving you as much grief as if you’re fighting on the ground.

Nutshell: Frustrate Chris from above. Bad Sent calls = Heavily wounded robot.

Also, what assist is Doom on? I never found missiles that useful against Chris, just because of that whole, “Sup Doom, meet my magnum” thing. Although actually, now that I think about it, can you set up the unblockable with Doom missiles? Shit, as a Doom/Firebrand user I really should know this. It might be a bit more valuable than the beam for that reason. Otherwise if it makes the Chris match a bit easier, then it might be worth subbing plasma beam in for him. If you can get Chris blocking your air fireballs, plasma beam comes out faster than missiles, and will aid you in trying to close the gap while being less punishable than missiles if you’re keeping yourself at a distance. A hilarious jump -> Bon voyage while the opponent is blocking plasma beam will leave you right up in his grill, giving you a mixup opportunity. Also applicable outside the Chris match.

Hawkeye is an asshole. Smokes you in the air. Smokes you on the ground. You kinda need to get in on him, but it sure as hell isn’t easy. And I don’t really consider “get in on him” advice, so sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Anyway, anything I’ve said is based entirely on my experiences, and I’m not claiming to be professional by any means. If I’m completely wrong or something then I would greatly appreciate someone blowing up my bullshit right now. Pretty sure I’m on the right track though. I hope.

I don’t think Hawkeye is too bad of a matchup, just have to be patient, and try to bait as many gimlets as you can. A lot of Hawkeye players can get impatient and start throwing out Gimlet whenever they feel that you’re going to move. If he’s out of bar, Hawkeye is way less scary in my opinion, or at least that’s what I’ve felt when I’ve played against Hawkeyes in tourneys and such. Just gotta maneuver in carefully, use your ability to do 3 moves in the air (2 fireballs + movement) to it’s full effect. I’ve only played a handful of Hawkeyes in a competitive scene, so take my advice with a grain of salt, it’s just what I’ve experienced so far. Have another tourney in the area this Sunday, so will hopefully get in more games against Hawkeye.

Running Firebrand beta, Sentinel alpha, and Doom hidden missiles, any tips or opinions?

Get one hard knockdown and set up unblockables all day with that team. :stuck_out_tongue:

Firebrands fire super goes through Sent’s HSF. Good to know. He will still get hit at the end though…
