Far too many people were getting hit by a throw reset after the super.
At least Firebrand currently has the element of surprise going for him.
Firebrand is sick! His j.L is an instant overhead like Vanilla Wolverine’s, his s.L gives him mad advantage on block and is rapid fire, Luminous Body makes him crazy fast, and he can pretty much troll the skies whenever wants, even more so with that Lvl 3 of hid. Remind me why he’s meant to be ass again?
Because Rayray is better than me. I’m putting FB on my sub team until I figure out some new tech.
On the other hand so is Chris G. I like his new team a lot, his old one got so booooring.
Yeah Chris was making him work, but even then you could see where the lack of damage was factoring in. It would take him 3+ connections sometimes to kill a character. Firebrand’s certainly capable of it, but that’s still really crappy. Gotta get it down to 2 at the most, hopefully being able to pop X-Factor and make it 1 in some cases too.
FingerCramp covered firebrand http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/nov/16/firebrand-umvc3-video-character-guide-fingercramp/
Noticed a lot of little stuff that was wrong or that I disagreed with early in the vid. Jago’s usually right about the psychology and overall gameplay, though.
3 ragequits and a hatemail!
Needing three combos to kill a character isn’t a big deal if you have good resets after those combos =)
I think once we have him down it’ll be two combos to death (combo, reset, combo, dead, kinda like Wesker). I mean, realistic ones without assist reach 550 and this is early stuff, so I expect it to go higher eventually.
I spent some time at a session with Firebrand last night and I was OCVing people with him a few times. His mixups are awesome, he maintains pressure really well, his slide is nice, he can cover his own air approach with M fireball > M Glide. Luminous body allows you to do j.L instant overhead into bon voyage, tested it on Zero who has a pretty small crouching hitbox so it probably works on most everyone. Sent Drones into M Demon Missil can be used two different ways. One, you can demon missile right away and then the drones will cross up after he goes through them, or you can let the drones lead the way and use them as cover to get in. You can use the L demon missile to go for air mixups after it’s blocked when there’s an assist covering it. The main air mixup I was using is jumping attacks into either bon boyage or dive kick or air attack into his L air dash that move shim to the ground. You can do some really confusing shit with that move. M Hell Elevator is also really good for getting in there and doing air mixups if you do normals into assist.
Fireball is also excellent for keeping safe at the end of combos. In luminous body I’m pretty sure it’s advantage. I know on hit you can do st.H into L fireball and then dash up and continue the combo.
Ground bon voyage is incredibly unsafe but if you know they’re doing something, it can be pretty useful for snagging them out of it. Since its a throw, you’re invincible once it starts so it can be useful if you hit and know something like drones or hidden missiles is coming for you.
Air Bon Voyage is without a doubt his best move. Safe, high priority hitbox that leaves you at +10 on block? Jesus christ. I spam the shit out of that move. It beats everything and starts offense >_<
Oh also the H Demon Missile (the swoop) is chargeable so you can wait and look for an opening, or wait for your assist to hit, then release it. On charge it staggers or on air hit gives a soft knockdown I believe, so it’s really easy to combo off of. Leaves you in a good position to mixup on block.
Also I didn’t see it mentioned in the guide, but he has a wall cling that he can exit 4 ways. L shoots a fireball horizontally, M shoots it diagonally, H shoots the flame carpet fireball downwards, and S just cancels the wall cling.
You enter it by double tapping back when up high against a wall. I notice if you air recover, or use his :h: Hell Dive, you can cling twice in some cases. It’s a little pointless outside of trolling, but I like it.
Not going to lie it got annoying as shit with quotes, marlin, and masta cj keep on talking about Firebrands low damage when Chris G was wrecking teams with him.
Found some Xfactor loops

Wow, thanks RayRay!
Will we see you at the next tournament using Firebrand?
So… how long did it take everybody to realize that Dark Fire is mashable?
It does 150K unmashed and over 300K mashed.
Pretty happy with this combo using Doom Hidden Missiles assist:
j.:s: :d: :d::h: :s: (pursuit) j.:h: (2 hits) :d::db:
(Hell Dive Forward) j.:h: (2 hits) (land) :s: (pursuit) j.
:h: j.:d::h:, flight cancel, j.:d::db:
:l: (Hell Dive Down) (land) :s:+:a1: (pursuit) j.
:h::s: (land) :f::d::df::h: (Demon Missile Swoop) j.:d::df::f::s: (Bon Voyage), raw tag to Dr. Doom, :h: :d::df::f::atk::atk: (Doom Time)
Does 925k damage. It works because the Demon Missile Swoop crosses through them as the Hidden Missiles connect, which lets you Bon Voyage all the way across from the corner you started in to the other corner. Because they’re stuck in a Hard Knockdown after Bon Voyage, you have plenty of time to raw tag in Doom and then do his standing :h: OTG into Doom Time.
It’s a functional Level 3 damaging super for my Firebrand :tup:
In general, this raw tagging to Doom mid-combo nonsense is solving my Firebrand damage issue. Bon Voyage’ing out of the corner lets you raw tag into Doom very easily, and he can get a few loops of his normal combo in as a result. It winds up being way more damage than Firebrand’s normal combos. I just have to figure out how to set it up more easily.
You can also use that combo starter to get to the other side of an opponent and possibly setup a Doom raw tag midscreen. Must play with this more.
Another thing for damage is that you can use Hawkeye’s Poison Arrow assist to bring his combos up to average. The poison does 90k damage outside of the scaling of the combo, meaning you can get his combos up to about 650-700k for 1 meter. The tough part is that Firebrand doesn’t DHC to Hawkeye very well (low damage at least), so you wouldn’t want to have them in a Firebrand/Hawkeye/X order if you can help it.
This kinda stuff combined with RayRay’s Level 1 XF loop, and we may have the gas we need to kill bad match-ups in one hit, and then just play with our food (running away + resets) against favorable match-ups.
Figured it out on my own. If I do the combo quickly, and press LM to command dash immediately after landing, Firebrand (who ends up in the corner, usually) will dash out, and the S will hit towards the corner. 533k off a c.L x2.
I’m looking to find some setups for the X-Factor fireball loop.
My only gripe with Rayray’s video is that Luminous Body is activated before the combo. I’d like to see if I can pop the Luminous Body and X-Factor after the combo has started.
After watching ChrisG’s matches today, I figured out one throw setup…
From a forward or backwards ground throw (backwards is harder, but possible) (also easier midscreen, maybe possible in corner with variation):
Ground Throw -> Hell Spitfire:h: xx Luminous Body -> dash -> :s:, sj :h: xx Bon Voyage -> X-Factor -> dash back -> loop 3x [crouching :h: xx :d::df::f:Hell Spitfire:l:] -> :s:, sj :h::s: -> land -> Dark Fire
~615k (XF lv1) / ~833k (XF lv3)
When starting from a forward air throw:
Forward Air Throw -> air Hell Spitfire:h: xx air Luminous Body -> Bon Voyage -> X-Factor -> dash back -> loop 5-6x [crouching :h: xx :d::df::f:Hell Spitfire:l:] -> :s:, sj :h::s: -> land -> Dark Fire
~733k (XF lv1) / ~912k (XF lv3)
It may help to start the loops with a standing :h: before the slides so that you don’t cross under with the first one.
The damage isn’t amazing, but good enough for throw starters.
I would love to see some different setups like this without the throw starter. I would imagine that a similar combo (with Luminous Body and X-Factor popped in the middle of the combo) would deal much more.
Hahaha, good stuff RayRay.
RayRay making me look like a scrub lmao
