GAH GRAKH GAH! (Victory is Mine!) Official Firebrand Discussion Thread!

what the hell does TOD mean? I see it everywhere.

Touch of Death. It means that if you are hit once, you will die.

I see him as a more mobile but less damaging vanilla Wesker. On his own, Wesker couldn’t TOD anyone (except Phoenix) unless he used his x factor or lv3. He had a good reset/mixup game however which helped compensate his low damage. I see Firebrand ending up in a similar way. He has very good mixups and mobilty but will probably take one extra combo to kill someone.

Man I love his standing jab. Lightning fast, good hitbox and +6 on block. And with all his command movement, you just can’t advancing guard this guy out. If we can get his damage or meter build up just a little higher, he’ll be a menace.

So a few other things I’ve noticed that may help in getting him damage:

His regular fireballs hit for 100k - along with his rushes and swoops, that’s his highest damage single hit. I haven’t found any ways to set it up in combos outside of using Luminous Body or assists, though.

You can start a combo with something like :d::m: :d::h: :d::df::f::l: xx Luminous Body, :m: :d::h: :s: -> into Combo. And it adds a decent amount at the start. But there would have to be some Luminous Body specific loops after that to make it worth the meter. I doubt the combo would get up and over what you could normally get from just ending a regular combo in Dark Fire.

Has anyone found a way to consistently get Bon Voyage to take them OUT of the corner for more hits? It happens occasionally and I can’t figure out how I did it, but it’s nice obviously.

Also I do like when you do a Bon Voyage INTO the corner, you can dash under them as they wall bounce to relaunch back into the corner. I find that really helps when it comes time to end the combo with a super.

Initial impressions of Firebrand:

I really like him. While his damage output is complete ass, he can deal damage in so many different situations. His game will rely on crazy mixups and resets but luckily he has the tools to do it. His instant overhead is really nice… if they end up blocking the initial instant overhead you put them into a 50/50 mixup situation because you can them use M or H to hit them on the same side… or delay it just a split second so it crosses them up on the other side!

I love how he can covert damage after a ground throw anywhere on the screen and then put the character back into another mixup situation.

His st A is completely abusable… that has to be one of the best st A if not the best in the game.

This guy will be one of the best X Factor characters in the game in my opinion. Him in level 3 is going to be nutty.

I haven’t dabbled much yet with his level 3… im trying to get a feel for all the new charcters currently for matchup purposes.

how is everybody feeling on his assists? I’m trying to use the crossover demon missile with ghost rider but I’m not sure if I like it yet.

If he pops XF3 and Luminous Body, you can spam fireballs and stick them in perma blockstun until they get chipped out, get hit, or your stuff runs out. It’s similar to Arthur’s Golden Lances with XF2 or 3, good stuff~

just got back from a crack session in ny. and i gotta say firebrand aint fucking with wesker wolverine(noel still picks wolvie and yes he’s still godlike) i used to beat noel alot more than he beat me in vanilla but that was because my characters actually did damage. having to hit top tier characters more than 2 times is too much for this game. firebrand NEEDS to be on point so he can have 2 assist. thats the only way i see him being viable in tourney (which makes him a bad character). plus all 3 of his assist are useless in a fight out side of combos. dont tell me its early because i been playing since wednesday and i have already learned how to control firebrand in a high lvl match. Haggar is ridiculous and hulk is top 5 free. sent got nerfed and wesker got buffed which is astonishing. idk im just mad.

I’m fairly certain that Firebrand is a bad character, but saying that it isn’t “early” because you’ve had the game for a week is a ridiculous notion. If everything about a game can be determined within a week, then chances are the game is trash.

in one week literally everything in your post will be wrong. firebrand is made to be an anchor, not some point character.

I hope this is true, but the problem is his assists are garbage (or I have no idea how to use them) and he seems to rely on assists in certain situations. I can see him being a strong meter user, his powerup is strong, but I haven’t messed with his level 3 nor with x factor yet .

what i meant by that is i know what works in the game. and i can aalready see (even after just a week) that this character isnt gonna be shit

apparently you don’t

Well this back and forth isn’t going to go anywhere, at this point its still too early to tell either way. People just never learn when it comes to making claims to early, first he was wolverine with flight now he is hsien-ko with wings, how bout we give the character time to develop first. Sure he does asstasstic damage, but maybe he has advantages in other untapped areas, maybe he will be ass in the end Im not making claims in either argument, all Im saying is arguing about it on day 1 is idiotic by any standard, it doesn’t matter if the game leaked and you’ve had it for a month, phoenix didn’t start dominating tourneys till about 4 months later and on day 1 people still thought wolverine was meh in vanilla.

Btw while I was typing this, chris g was wrecking shop with firebrand, not saying this proves anything I just found it ironic.

I have a quick question, what exactly does Luminous Body do? Does it give some sort of speed boost?

The only reason people are saying Firebrand sucks is because he is hard to use and his damage output is ass. Once you recognize he basically puts you in a mixup/reset state into decent damage anywhere on the screen whenever he wants will you truly only understand him.

Im not saying he is top/high tier… but no way is this character bad with his amazing mobility, so many different can openers, and a cheap as fuck projectile.

I’m loving this character so far. His damage isn’t pretty, but the combos are fun and he flies like a G6. I will try to keep him in my main teams for a while and see what I can come up with.

Chris G was apparently using a pretty good Firebrand on stream at the first weekly. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any of it.

Question: Have any of you who have the game tried out Red Tide in combos? I can imagine it wrecking a few of his standard ones (Since the homie attacks whenever you press the attack buttons other than special).

I’m trying to figure out a way to make Firebrand’s bnb more reliable. Sometimes, I’m unable to dash out of the corner before I do the last launcher before the hyper, but I haven’t been able to pin down why. I think it has something to do with the height at which Bon Voyage is initiated, but even varying the timing of the hits of the combo before that, I haven’t been able to really make things consistent. Does it also have to do with the height at which you catch the enemy with H after the ground bounce?

The combo in question is the first one in the new testament:
c.MH, S, j.MM, d+H, qcb+L, c.H, S, j.MMH (2 hits), qcf+S, land, S, j.MMH (2 hits), S, land, otg hyper

What stream was he playing on? I don’t mind looking through the archives haha
