GAH GRAKH GAH! (Victory is Mine!) Official Firebrand Discussion Thread!

he might actually be a great anchor. lvl 3 xfactor with speed up and lvl 3 is insane. he is literally unblockable. i couldnt control him at all.

Haha, but that’s the problem. He’s theoretically godlike in XF3 with his level 3 out, but what percentage of the world population could actually control him well enough for it to matter?!

Anyway, your video made me realize that Firebrand has three ways to easily relaunch per combo:
After you launch, you are doing j.H, then one of his command dashes, then j.H again, and now you’re low enough that you can spike your opponent and land his OTG Fireball in that Sentinel combo. That’s your first relaunch.

Then, dive kick to relaunch.

Third, Bon Voyage to relaunch.

Maybe there’s something there that gets it done. As it is, my bet is that the two hits on his j.H are what hold him back. Morrigan’s damage goes from ohmygodterrible to sortofterrible if you omit all of her multi-hit moves. I bet the same holds true for Firebrand, but doing a bunch of j.Ms in a combo won’t help us, I’m sure.

Have you tried doing a Skrull-style relaunch series? Launch, spike, qcf.H loop? I feel like Firebrand’s combos are going to involve a lot of his specials for damage output, and we just haven’t figured them out yet.

Regardless, his other attributes are good for it to matter. I did fine with Phoenix on point and her crappy damage output, so I’ll be fine with Firebrand’s.

LOL this actually made me laugh. i think ill be able to control him. have you seen my magneto in vanilla :D??

the first hit of his j.H barley has any hit stun so you have to hit him with the 2nd hit of the j.H. Also when you do qcf.h you cant do anything until you land

I have, but multi-character control is a fundamentally different beast. I can do some high execution stuff, but Carl in BlazBlue blows my mind. I imagine Firebrand in XF3 with Chaos Tide running to be more like a Carl experience. Magneto is still just one guy to keep track of.

Right, that’s why I was suggesting s.S, sj.S, qcf.H. The fireball might keep them bouncing long enough for you to dash in and c.M. Just a wild thought amidst all my dreams and hype for Ultimate! One more day! Also, since Firebrand spends so much time in Flight, wouldn’t it make sense for him to use qcf.H after entering Flight, so he can do other stuff afterward?

Shoutouts to Ray Ray. Nice combos.

Firebrand is the only character that crosses up a cross-up along with an instant overhead. Too sick… Imma have to main the guy forever… He’s just too cold…

Playing with him almost made me forget that I wanted to break Phoenix Wright.

Thanks for putting that bluntly. I’ve been hype about Firebrand for a while now but it’s completely gone flat now that I’ve seen his damage output. Thinking about running Ryu on point instead…

I was hype about Firebrand at the beginning of this game but it looks like he isn’t my type of character at all. It’s really strange because we saw him do a lot of damage in earlier builds… Not as much as a hard hitting character but it seems weird that he needs to work for 500k now. Well, I’ll still give him a try and I’ve got plenty of other team ideas left.

i dont want to stop people from playing him, but i dont think hes gonna compete. yea he has great mobility and mixups but about 80% of the cast can still one touch kill characters. and thats whats gonna matter in tourneys just like in vanilla. and i know its early but when im flying around if i get hit by something random im dying. i’ve been playing with top nyc players for about 3 days and i dont think ima stick with this guy just cause my random hits only lead to about 400k while other ppl kill me

Exactly why my day 1 point character has now changed from Firebrand to Denjin Ryu. Can’t wait to see the new ordinary guy at Curleh Moustache!

trying to find good hit confirms with drones

nice, we’re already at 100k more damage than all the combos shown yesterday.

I am starting to think after the wall bounce the best thing to do is to hit them with a st l/m/h for an air reset state. I wonder if he has any jump loops (with and without luminous body). Then he will have a yomi game similar to Weskers.

last match last combo.
Is that a known Firebrand loop?Sorry if this was already found.

That loop is in mission mode

OK my bad, was just checking.

pre-release vanilla mvc3 : "damn zero does no damage, oh noes"
post-release vanilla mvc3: "damn zero does too much damage, oh noes"
its the same cycle every single game. lol its pretty obvious characters with low damage output per hit, can rack up the damage with lots of hits as long as you understand their tools.

how about extending his 3-launch with [flying screen, air otg flame spit xx luminous body], then doing a luminous body combo/loop?
or after flying screen, land, do [angled 45 degree flame spit xx super flame, spit hits, dp + attack~flight, airdash, airdash, assist] whatever?
or [flying screen, angled spit xx super flame, spit hits, dp + attack xx luminous body, etc.]?
isn’t his slide an otg?
his specials probably don’t contribute to hsd like his other moves, or luminous body speed boost allows him to effectively combo even after lots of hsd has kicked in.
what about post flying screen combos with otg spitfire xx level 3? i already see the retardation that’ll come from his lvl3.

I also think with all of Firebrands movement options he will have some nasty mix up/reset setups. So he might not need high damage.

Firebrand is a relaunch god. I know of 4 ways to relaunch an opponent without the help of an assist.

  1. Following a Demon Claw.
  2. Following a Bon Voyage.
  3. Using Hell Dive during a juggle in order to reach the ground mid-combo.
  4. Following an Air S, wave-dash and OTG with Hellfire.

If Vanilla tought us anything, you better TOD or near to it when you get that first hit. Solo damage if anything is going to be more important because there will be less DHC’s than before.

Anyone causing rage with him online yet?

I’m really liking this character. I ddin’t know that you could flight cancel all of his normals. This adds a huge mix up potential with his air game. It’s really easy to reset after a Bon Voyage in the corner, once the character falls from the wall bounce, I did a standing H and canceled it into his M air dive, this crosses the opponent and you can go for a high low mix up, and it’s even faster if you have luminous body on. His runaway in luminous body is so fast! he can go from being in your face to the other side of the screen in an instant.
