So it’s official, Marvel3 is fucking stupid. I thought Sentinel was stupid because of his high rewards for low effort but damn the risk ratio some other characters/team combos are rocking makes Sent feel above average but not ultra gay.
Here’s my list of gripes
1.Getting a good read and starting a combo to get hit out of it and comboed yourself by King Arthur fire bottle and Doom missiles.
2.Hitting armored Hsien Ko just to get comboed in return because you can never put her in hit stun.
3.Runaway Phoenix 95% of the time being completely untouchable.
4.Dogs ducking your shit, putting you in slow-mo for one bar.
5.Advancing guard barely mitigates chip especially against supers with gaps in block stun.
6.Fucking shit-tons of spam-able safe moves of all types: normals/specials/supers aka: Pressing buttons all match = low risk/high reward.
7.X-MOTHER-FUCKING-FACTOR, seriously I’m not sure if a cheaper fighting game mechanic has ever existed in a tournament played game.
Yeah I said it X-Factor is cheap, I will even call it broken. I normally don’t jump to conclusions of that nature easily, but the bullshit meter is off the charts here.

Its the NOOB ERA Kent, you gonna have to deal with it. All these new fighting games just give you shit. Ultra, Rage Mode, X-Factor…they gotta dumb it down so NOOBS can play. you no longer have to spend the time you needed in the past to be gross, now you just gotta learn how to use the free shit they give you and BAM!..your fucking godlike son.

Why did Tactics Ogre have to get (re-)released the same time as MvC3? For anyone who likes Tactics-style games, this is one that was long overdue for a good US release, definitely worth playing.
While I understand the gripes of MvC3, I just can’t deny the fact that I have fun playing it. Do I get noobed out? Heck yes I do, but it never makes me want to stop playing. Then again, I’m pretty bad at fighting games, so maybe this was made for people like me. 
I think that Capcom is doing what they have to to make fighting games profitable again. During the SF2 heyday, many of us were in our early teens and it wasn’t the heavy execution, tricky setups, or noob-factor of SF2 that initially drew us to the game. SF2 just had a “style,” something that made it stand out from the thousands of other arcade (and eventually console) games that came out on a near-monthly basis.
SF4 was a step in this direction, taking things back to a “simple but deep” playing field with a whole lot of current-gen style/flair. MvC3 is an even bigger step I think, but not a bad one. I think that Capcom is doing what they need to do as a business, they’re tuning the game to a different market. I think that they do what they can to appeal to the current scene (putting all the yipes references, trying to adapt some of the old staple combos for certain veteran characters, bringing back random fan favorites like Shuma), but their primary goal is to capture a new audience, a younger audience.
And can you really blame them? Think about most of us, we’re nearing or over 30. Think about when we fell in love with SF, for most of us it was over 15 years ago. But also think about how long we can remain part of the crucial market for a game. The aging gamer demographic is a new concept and most companies are unsure of how to approach it. IMO, the majority of gaming companies still see the core demographic as 10-22 years old, so making a game that appeals to veterans entering what is still considered twilight gaming years… capcom’s not there yet. Heck, can any videogame developer say they’ve been able to make a game that can span an audience age range of ~20 years? I think of games like Tetris as success stories for this, something that nearly any age can pick up and have fun with.
I don’t know who read or remembers my Metroid: Other M review, but I will echo my sentiments from that review with the current feelings of MvC3: we are no longer the core demographic for these games.
Ask a 15 year old to play MvC3 or 3S for 10 minutes each, then ask him which one he likes more. Now, if you were to ask him to play them for a 1 year+ each, you may get a different answer.
