Are you saying that playing F:UC and MB made you want to try other obscure stuff, but not delve into those particular titles?
I am already aware of that. Also, about the AH2 thing, the console port is beyond horrible. So I know for a fact, many AH fans are still playing the first title, only if to keep their skills brushed up.
I’m trying to see what all games oukamikenji is talking about perhaps getting into.
I mentioned Fate: Unlimited Codes already, as well as Melty Blood. Whatever the newest MB that is available to us is fine with me. Other games are fine as well, but those were the two that the three of us showed interest in that I know of.
Not that obscure. Big Bang Beat was a doujin fighter that was the biggest flash in the pan known to man. So much hype centered around the game, and all of these combo videos were released A month later nothing.
Akatsuki has been fairing a little better and I think it has a sequel out. Probably one of the few doujin games I like.
Monster was another doujin game that was big for a minute. But the shit has been in beta for like 3 years now. And it’s fairly stupid anyway.
all in all most doujin fighters are rush fest. Big execution games where combos are rarely damaging. But that’s my take on them. I was pretty relieved when SFIV came out.
You mean Actress Again, the latest Melty Blood game. Not sure what they added. Seems to be struggling in Japan at the moment. Haven’t seen much of a following since few vids are released of the game. But acho seems to run ranbats in it. I think you can import Act Candenza on the PS2 granted it’s modded. I only played the original Melty Blood and ReAct. I personally got bored with it quickly, since it’s just a,b,c spam. But that’s me.
Well that’s good; I’m glad to see others have gotten into Fate: Unlimited Codes, the overall scene for that seemed to have died quickly.
I hear from Emill that it will be a SBO, I think.
I’m going to record some matches tomorrow BTW, and right now I’m sorting through a bunch of SC and AH casual footage we had today if anyone is interested.
Arcades in general are a bad investment if they are opened around a pretty crappy scene. I know personally I didn’t see that many people in arcades the last few years they were in Atlanta. I know the arcades were shitty, but there are only a few people on SRK I actually know from the arcades.
I think Atlanta has been pretty much babied for the last few years regarding arcades. Since on console you have more control of how you play the game, the arcade itself can be a harsh environment if you're not use to them. Undoubtedly you'll play on sticks that don't feel right to your hands and you have to stand up and play them most of the time. even sitdown cabinets probably aren't the most comfortable posture for people who are use to getting in whatever posture they want playing on console.
Overall, from a business perspective I can’t say it a great investment, but the fighting game fan in me wants someone to step up and take the risk. But yeah, arcades are rarely like Japan where I hear they are crowded like all day. I think Texas and California arcades make money based on the amount of players in the scene and how many new players enter it. Plus California has players who are strictly arcade players. That doesn’t exist here in Atlanta (I would be, but of course there are no arcades).
I didn’t have a ride, and I didn’t want to pay like 40 dollars in cab fare, plus 10 dollar entrance fee, plus 10 dollars for SFIV. And of course there is always a money match too. and since SFIV ended after 12, I probably would have had to get a hotel which is another $55-$60. And lets not forget another $40 back to the train station. So yeah, I just decided to save my money and sit this one out.
You’re right on a lot of this, but considering your admitted tendency towards turtling, I have to chuckle when I read this.
A lot of it is execution, not so much mindgames? Definitely. But no-one says you have to stop playing conventional fighters (whatever that means) when you like a doujin. You don’t see me stop posting footage for my other fighters when I got into F:UC and AH.
I think its actually good that they’re “rush fests, with emphasis on execution”; for me I can personally say after spending time with Sakura’s difficult 623623 super set-up combo (which consists of canceling, several tiger knees and reverse dps) it has improved my execution in other fighters where the bar is not set as high. Had trouble starting on a few infinites in MvC2 with my team; not so much anymore, “Bah, I’ve had Shield canceling, TKs and jumpcanceling for regular combos, this is tame in comparison.”
Another reason I like them is that since they have emphasis on combos, it is a given everyone has something to work with when they get to the hit, meaning a certain balance; unlike Marvel or to lesser extent some other titles, where pretty much only top characters have good, damaging bnb or even at all, besides the lukewarm, general AC. So no-one feels “left-out”.
I will quickly admit that most high-level doujin matches - like Melty Blood - bore me for the most part, and that is because of this balance given to everyone in the combo department, it all looks and builds up very similar. So I won’t ever drop my other fighters in favor of just doujin, but I love the experience and think they provide a nice balance between other stuff I play.
Because everyone doesn’t have money to waste/spend and/or have a car.
And then other priorities and tasks have to be taken into account.
Why is that you and several others in Atlanta seem to be so shocked when people can’t show up to a tourney, or can’t go to waba/“East Point” every five minutes like you all do?
Again, this isn’t necessarily directed at just you by the way, just asking.
Branh shut up…anyways just wanted to say gs to everyone who was in the tourny.
one thing everyone yelling out my line,“GET OFF THE FUCKING STICKS!!”. also they took my Frieza line…wow didnt know everyone knew about the incident that happen in the fr room with me,juan, ernesto, wanton, metal, eddie and ray. this is what happen ray(kaquj whatever) walked in all distraught and out of breath talking about,“RAPH(spelling) IS HERE!!!” then i was like wtf why you sound and acting like this so me,juan and i think neto laughed about it but we said and laughed about it more but we didnt know it caught on. even heard eddie refer to raph as frieza.lol
Because he has more shit coming out of his mouth than any sumo’s ass in the world. It would only be natural that he would at least attempt to come out to something where people are actually trying to game and/or compete. I mean, no hate, but seriously, be happy you’re at the bottom, or shut up and try to make a difference. Don’t try to avoid competing against others and at the same time try to think people on SRK will give two shits about what you have to say. You have to establish your credibility before anybody cares about your (general you) gameplay-related posts.
Just my two cents. This has actually been happening quite frequently, beyond just him. I would be the last person who wouldn’t understand that people have priorities and lives outside of video games, but I’d also be the last person to think those specific people are naive enough to be unaware of that. 99% of the people with things in their way of gaming, all know that they aren’t that great compared to a lot of other people because of the lack of free time they have in the first place.
The biggest-looking idiots on SRK are the ones who hype themselves up knowing they can’t even fulfill or live up half of his or her promise.
::EDIT::
Halfway through writing this post, I realized Tech said it, as opposed to Branh, so I had to edit some of this post for it to make any sense . But, on a more serious note, you can’t honestly say you’re going to be the best at a game like SFIV and not expect people to turn heads when you don’t show up to prove yourself right.
That was my mistake, but it doesn’t change anything I’m saying, really. I just had to change some you’s to he’s and the like. The message is still there, really. I meant it towards the general community anyway. It’s something I’ve been noticing.
Don’t have the game yet. So I try to figure things out as I go along in casuals. So I perhaps take more hits than necessary trying figure out proper anti-airs and distances. Or try to figure out ranges on the fly. I’m waiting for the PC release. In either case, I just have to rely on some dirty tricks such as watching vids of people’s play style or something of that nature. Not a lot of vids of GA players, but they exist.
Anyway, I’ll try to make it out to more gatherings and such. But I do have other priorities, and making it to gatherings (which are far far away) just isn’t an option right now. Anyway, I think I know what to practice once I get the game. For right now I just have to see how well I adapt with limited practice.
I realize Brah is a shit talker (although I have no slight against him); my main thing is that in general (mainly referring to myself here), one would love to come out to waba, tourneys and all these good places but its just not practical most of the time.
I can’t speak for everyone’s situation, but I personally live two hours away from Atlanta, and I have no car yet. And even if I did, it would still be impractical. So I have to try to only attend the big events; and I just train and push the small crew I have here, posting what we do on my youtube account.
Anyway.
I wanted to upload some stuff we did today and post links but youtube is performing maintenance so I’ll do it tommorow, along with the F:UC stuff, and probably some Marvel.
oukamikenji: Not absolutely sure on the tiers for MB, and F:UC but I do know Gilgamesh is pretty high on the latter. Few characters full screen from him have a chance for victory, because his zoning is so good, and he has several infinites, not to mention his regular bnb is devastating. If you don’t mind the Top-tier route, pick him.
Let’s see. I showed up to Waba to play you in a money match. I played Clint. I challenged him to a money match rematch. He hasn’t been back to Waba since, I don’t think. I money matched Joel. Now maybe it didn’t occur when you would’ve liked, but it did happen. And I showed up specifically to go ahead and money match you and Joel. I really didn’t come for the tourney, because I was out of practice for 3s by that time, and had never played HDRemix.
In either case, Douglasville cost too much money to get to without transportation. And most of my business is done downtown and Buckhead anyway. so if I have something to do in a day, I can’t take care of things and then be out in Douglasville which is 45 minutes away.
Since Magnicious said he is moving IC back downtown, then I should be showing up to tournaments more often. But I’m not about to spend $200 just to play in a tournament and leave with nothing. Especially when I have other things that demand my money.
