G3Evo: OH SNAP! F/UC Appreciation, Miss, ON (1/10/09) (TvC/AHF/FUC/STHD/SCIV/BB)

Yo Bill, is there any character in Arcana Heart that got left out in AH 2? Just curious.

This is a video of your Gier Saki from the 2nd-last time we faced each other, back in June:

And this is a video from 3 weeks ago, same matchup:

Your combos are a lot better, your setups with Gier are a lot better, and your rushdown is a lot better. Not to mention the fact that you went from losing to winning when you supposedly stopped playing Arcana whereas Arcana became my main game.

So, if not secret practice (secret from me, that is), then how do you explain all that?

With Kamui, I definitely recommend Gier/Dark, the one on the far right. Using 236[D], 623[D], and 236236[D], you can delay Gier’s attack for as long as you want by holding D. You lose the attack if you get hit or block a hit, but as long as you release D before getting hit, Gier’s attack will still come out.

Ultimately, you want your opponent to fear the possibility of Gier being released at any time. :badboy:

The alternative is Anutpada/Time, which Justin Wong uses with Kamui. In particular, Time’s backdash leaves behind a silhouette that will parry any attack, often giving you a free hit. And 6D teleports you across the screen, which is useful for cross-ups.

With Heart, I’d recommend Bhanri/Lightning, but she can be strong with Lang Gong/Fire, Gier/Dark, and Niptra/Water as well.

Nope: every character and Arcana is still in the sequel. However, some characters have changed significantly, e.g. Konoha, who lost her awesome air dash, and Kamui, who lost her (too-)awesome j.412A+B super.

has anyone noticed that both those vids posted are in fact the same vid?

Justin pointed it out on MSN. I’ve fixed it, now.

This can be easily explained. I have simply leveled up in video games in general. Considering the length of time between both videos. Like seriously ask when I’ve last played CvS2 (aka NEVER) and compare me playing the game now to the time I first played GTASF, I’d still be inherently better. I’ve become smarter with general experience and the importance of not dropping combos. It isn’t due to any inherent practice, I might have played a few with Rae here and there and we had some back and forth about the game, but that’s about it.

yeah or maybe that kira got worse XD

Herbert, you belong on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. :razzy:

Trust me, dude, it’s not a mystery. Although, sometimes it is. I do surprise myself too. Like, GGAC I have dropped for a while, but when I played Rae like a month ago, I actually did ABA’s corner loop ONCE in a match. I’ve never ever done it before in a match. I was fucking astounded. You also have to remember that NO ONE plays AHF with me. So, I also have next to none in real match EXP.

By the way, here’s a playlist with G3’s latest Arcana Heart action straight from the Psychocave!

Featuring:

  • JED07 as Kira
  • Fareed as Heart
  • Clarity&Confucius as Lilica, Mei-Fang, and Kira
  • Broly2012 as Kamui

Best games of the night were probably the games between C&C and Fareed, e.g.:

That is one of the scammiest matches I have ever seen. Kira is bullshit.

Between Bill and Gerjay’s Kira, she’s the main reason why I got sick of playing Arcana Heart.

Well, I match up pretty well with Kira, it’s just Bill personally and the stupid shit he does and I mean in general. Wind Konoha is just as annoying as fucking Maori projectile spam. Just a lot of things bother me about Arcana and yet, I still play it.

this thread is more active than the dustloop thread
why didn’t i think of camping here for the day?

Kira was the only person i didnt play in AH because shes stupid.

In Ohio, I finally got to play against a good Kira player, and I’ll be honest: I was fucking trembling during our matches. The games were boring because I played super-defensive: I was really scared to attack her, especially after several of my attack attempts led to me getting 360’d or 720’d.

(Frank is REALLY good at doing 4D dodge into 360, by the way. Much better than me. :xeye:)

It’s ironic that she’s the 3rd-worst character (yes, she’s low tier), yet she’s also perhaps the *scariest *character to be facing. Against a strong opponent, with Lightning especially, if you get grabbed or hit once the whole round is in jeopardy. Excluding 100% stun, she’s far more dangerous than Makoto, but also less dangerous than Urien’s unblockables, imo.

The keys to beating her, imo, are knowing how to avoid her strengths and her gimmicks, and knowing how to exploit her weaknesses.

Strengths/gimmicks:

  • 2B, 5B, 623x, and 421x are air-unblockable:
  • If you’re in range of one of these moves, then either poke/super her out of them if you’re close enough, or use 4D to dodge out of her range.
  • If you’re in block stun in the air, always 4GC out of range of these attacks.
  • During a wall-tech (hold D during a wall-slam), hold down-back to land immediately instead of popping up into the air. I didn’t do this in the MM above, but it was okay since Kamui’s j.421A+B beats anything Kira could try, anyway.
  • Various 360 and 720 setups:
  • Learn to anticipate them as much as you can, and use 4D to dodge her grab and give you a free combo opening.
  • Mashing out 360 or 720 during a blockstring:
  • Don’t leave holes in your blockstrings. Take advantage of the fact that almost all A and B moves are jump-cancellable or SJC-able to continue your pressure.
  • Use low hits. During blockstun, you’ll block all mid attacks regardless of where your joystick is or what buttons you’re pressing, but you won’t block high/low automatically, so if she’s buffering a 720 during a blockstring then she’ll probably get hit by low hits.
  • Baiting air-, ground-, or wall-techs and then grabbing you:
  • Don’t tech, ever. Eventually she’ll drop you due to increasing pushback in the corner, and she won’t be able to do much more damage after a valid 2-homing combo anyway due to damage scaling.
  • Know when she’ll attempt these baits and don’t tech specifically during those times.
  • She can grab you with 360A at the start of the round:
  • Excl. Kira mirrors, it’s safe to just walk back at the start of the round, and block low shortly thereafter (to block 2C). If you see her dash or homing towards you, jump away or dodge her grab/attack with 4D. Notice that during the MM above, I didn’t get grabbed or hit at the start of the round, ever.
  • Body splash (j.2C).
  • Most characters can beat her splash clean with j.A.

Weaknesses:

  • Really wide hitbox:
  • Cross her up. She is extremely easy to hit with air crossups.
  • Her moves are really slow. Even her 2A and 5A are slow (her 2A and her 2B are both 10 frames). 720 super, j.A, and her air grabs are the only moves she has that will beat your A moves:
  • Rush her fat ass down, but watch out for guard cancel into super grab (dodge it with 4D or jump). She really can’t do anything else when she’s defending, because you can spam 2A to poke her out of any other move, even during a 6GC (this is a big reason why she’s low tier).
  • If she has no super bar and she’s defending in the corner, then she’s fucked. Just don’t jump-cancel IAD too predictably, because she can 6GC under you and get out (safest), or 4GC xx air grab.

Lastly, every character in the game has stupid stuff. But once you know how to avoid your opponent’s BS, or even how to turn it into a free combo for yourself, you’ll be fine. The best things to do are to ask someone more experienced for advice when it happens to you, or to post in the Arcana Heart topic.

But generally-speaking, the answer to most bullshit in this game is either 4D dodge or 4GC. Think of it as a universal save-your-ass game mechanic.

Bill, do you honestly just sit down and type this shit out? FIEND.

I’m coming and I’m going to be bringing a friend. We be participating in all the free tournaments and take our chances with you guys in AH.

I booked the afternoon off for Dec 19th.

I will bring my wii and 2 adapters. I tested them with one of my HRAPs and it worked (with smash bros).

Bret has working sticks and adapters too. Just need to wait for the game to come out.

Also bringing a laptop/DVR for recording anything.

Good shit. Shame on you for those who miss this.

Does the PSYCHOCAVE have room for everyone? I remember it being pretty roomy but it’s been like five years since I was last there.

Good shit with the caps, you know the nicknames I have for locations are awesome. IIRC, it should have enough space.
