Personally as I type this, I believe that the WiiU(though I do not own one atm) Is the current(next) gen system that is tailored to gamers more so than the PS4 or next Xbox. I can get over the WiiU tablet(or avoid it completely with the controller pro), and I do want to play games like Bayonetta 2 and SMT x Fire Emblem. For me, it’s always been about the games tho and less about the hardware, I go where there are games I want to play. With that said, I’m not big on graphics as I was playing games in the 16-bit era, those good ol’ Beat’em ups or Shoot’em ups were great. So in the end, If Nintendo can get games I want to play(looks like more 3rd parties are supporting the WiiU) then I may pick one up if not just so I can leisurely play the Wii games I bought for those occasions I go over to a friends house with one.
firstly the kinect is not THE motion control it’s actually the weakest of the three. the playstation move is what has an award under its belt and the wii mote has an extremely user friendly UI. the kinect being intergrated into the next xbox will boost it up but then its going against the ps4 eye which may possibly be superior to kinect 2, not to mention the playstation move which is everywhere for cheap being usable on the ps4.
Nintendo is mainly losing out due to the anticipation for the other next gen consoles and it’s failure in marketing. if the next gen consoles aren’t anything special except having better graphics the large majority may setlle for whats cheaper. by the looks of it the games that will be TRUE next gen are scarce while the rest will be multiplatform.
sony are shooting for casuals social interests and microsoft are gunning for casuals living room habits. mom and dad aren’t going to replace their sky/cable box for a machine that may konk out in a few months, and sony will be very very lucky if gamers come out of their caves and celebrate with no shame their gaming habits. if nintendo didn’t fail in their marketing the next gen consoles would of had a much harder time than they are going to
Regardless, have you heard anything about/from the Move since shortly after it’s release? It didnt matter, and the Kinect was selling like crazy, as well as taking over the Wii when the Wii > 360 shift occurred. Either way, I’m not vested in either’s motion controls, cause basically fuck all that shit.
This is a moot point, because the games that people would play arent going to the WiiU. Even if next gen is just full 1080p with 4xMSAA at 60FPS, with better shadows and lighting, if the WiiU arent getting those games then the system doesnt matter. The majority arent going to settle for the lowest price if it means they cant play Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls 6, or GTA5, period end of story. Good luck with that. Aside from that, the hardware oversights most definitely means that WiiU versions of multiplats will be the little brother, and only the most greedy yearly franchises would even bother putting out lazy half ass ports to the WiiU.
Some you need to stop being emotionally invested in this shit. My first system/game was the NES with SMB/DH, they have given me good times, and I even loved the DS this much:
But times change. I wont remotely look at a WiiU if I cant play AAA third party titles, or neutered versions of them, and damned I care about playing NSMBWiiU or Monster Hunter, or what the fuck ever. Give me a Zelda with serious art direction, and a 1080p 2.5D epic Metroid, and we’ll talk about making it a tertiary after a price drop.
to be honest all the kinect games are all bottom of the barrel games, games you see on the store shelf for a fifth of the price and still making a reaction like “hell no am I buying that” and where are its killer app games anyway? the hell? think they just squeezed coins out of xbox players no wonder their bringing kinect 2 for free Lol its actually a bad thing theres more kinects in peoples homes than ps moves
when nintendo make a solid game its a game you have to go back to even ten years down the line. when fallout 4.5 comes out theres not much reason to pick up 4
if nintendo makes the Wii U the collaboration games and we get a lot of gems out of it then it will be a must have console.
Even if the Wii U fails, Nintendo has enough cash to drop another console, short of a massive collapse of Japan, I can’t see how they are serious trouble.
The main problem with the Wii U right now is that Nintendo failed to really prepare for its own launch and was banking on legacy titles to carry them. If the Wii U becomes irredemable, Iwata is probably fired and the next guy will hopefully know better when he drops his console successor. Which all indications seem to indicate Nintendo is working toward trying to get a handheld/console hybrid.
It’s funny, Nintedo pulled the plug on the Wii a few years ago and made a literal ocean of money with it along with the DS. It’s now 2013 and not too long ago they just managed to salvage and turn around a floundering handheld, but (about 6 months post release about now) they already have a console that’s sinking like the titanic. I am honestly surprised how Nintendo managed to let this happened not once but twice. Although Nintendo easily managed to turn the 3DS around by going balls to the wall by dropping the price and releasing/localizing a cavalcade of games for US/EU the eventual turn around was pretty much looking into the crystal ball, Nintendo has pretty much always ruled the handheld gaming market and with games like Pokemon/Mario Kart they always will so even with meager competition like the vita everyone saw this coming from miles away. But the fact that some people believe this will happen with the wii u is like being the town drunk that spouts random bullshit and yells at clouds.
Here’s one thing that annoys me, how in the lord’s name did Nintendo make so much bank on Wii/DS and still manage to release a console with not a single AAA game at launch or 6 months post launch? Going from making the best selling game console ever to one that’s making record low sales from a business stand point is quite a sight to behold, you can twist the logic anyway you want but as they say you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
Along with less than stellar reactions/announcements from companies over in Japan[/details]
I don’t want to seem anti-Nintendo as I’ve been pretty hardcore for the first few years of N64/GCN/Wii and the later years of SNES, but as of late more and more of there problems are becoming more apparent to people
Archaic online setup
Trying to bank on innovation, 3rd party clearly don’t give a shit and I (and many others) don’t use that stupid 3D shit on the 3DS
Lack of IP circulation Mario/Zelda/Yoshi ad infinitium
Only one (expensive) standard control at the moment, unless you have a few wii controls and batteries lying around
One account per system(s) (this is a big deal compared to PSN where you can have the same account on multiple systems, being able to play FF7 on PS3/PSP/PSVita and maybe PS4 for the price of one is pretty boss)
Seperate virtual consoles, yeah this is used to insure they get the most profit out of it but in the end it comes of as cheap in comparison to everyone else
A lot of AAA games are being made but we haven’t heard anything release date related in forever (maybe at E3)
Outdated tech, this wouldn’t be an issue if we had some games first party titles to prove otherwise
So people have to deal with all that, not to mention the Wii U at the moment is in direct competition with two cheaper consoles with much much larger player bases and games, Microsoft is also supposed to be releasing a $100 dollar 360 at years end and PS3 will most likely get a special bundle with Gran Turismo 6/Last of Us. But that’s not all, the PS4 and the Nextbox are also supposed to drop around the same time and after E3 those systems will sell on hype alone. I’m not saying it’s impossible for Nintendo to turn this around, hell I’d love to have a reason to buy a Wii U, but all this candy and rainbows “3D Mario/Smash will fix everything” mess comes off as some Stockholm syndrome type bullshit, you guys shouldn’t put up with this and give them a pass just because it’s Nintendo and they made your favorite childhood games. They fucked up hardcore, the sooner you guys realize that the sooner you can tell them to get off their bums and fix it.
Nintendo is sitting on more than enough money to make a true next-gen console if the WiiU fails. They’re just still stuck on the idea of trying to make profits off of systems right from the beginning. But none of us know what the hell is gonna happen with the WiiU. It could still end up being a console worthy of owning even if it doesn’t have the big mainstream AAA titles.
It’s like people forgot the Wii was the best-selling system this gen and the only console from the big three that made any real profit. The Wii also had fuck-all for third-party support like the Wii U, so I’m sure Nintendo will be fine.
probably anyone who owns a Wii is pretty happy with it n the last thing they want is “the same Wii but better graphics” after all, they are casual gamers, they would probly buy a NES instead of a WiiU anyways
I have a Wii and it’s great. Lot of great games for it that lazy “Hard core” gamers don;t want to play cuz they might have to wiggle their wrists a little.
They are forgoing the large conference that hasn’t been doing them any favors for a few year now, for a stronger focus on booths and floor demos, AKA they actually have real shit to show.
