Future of Nintendo? Bright.. or Dark

I think this is going to be it for Nintendo. The WiiU is underpowered and (again) tries to attract consumers with gimmicks (Look! A Touch screen tablet!). There is no way they can play catch up with $ony and Micro$oft. Which console are the 3rd parties more likely to support? Two consoles that are basically gaming rigs and have a huge installed base of hardcore gamers and great online? Or Nintendo’s underpowered (Two Wii’s duct taped together) tablet which they have to figure out a a way to incorporate the tablet and motion controls gimmick with an untested online and mostly casual player base?

I think if Nintendo is smart they’ll abandon consoles and concentrate on games… Maybe focus on Handhelds and beat $ony.

The back catalog for Nintendo has so much love that they could re-release Super Mario games with trophies/achievements and people would buy them like crazy. Nintendo likes to pride themselves as innovators, and maybe some of their shortsighted hardware designs for the Wii/U fall into that category, but their games have been utterly stagnant since they hit 3D with the 64. They’re about as creatively interesting as Valve or Blizzard these days…

I honestly think Mario 64 and Starfox 64 (I’ve never played Zelda or those Metroid Prime games) were the peak of those franchises. They’ve yet to really top them and all they’ve done is re-release the same game with a new gimmick of some kind and new levels.

Prime 1 was amazing, but it’s all downhill after that.

Oh man… Sony and Microsoft r getting ready to show us good stuff @ E3…

Nintendo… Not so much.
They dropped out of E3!!!

And Iwata was demoted (from running Nintendo worldwide to running Nintendo of America). Wii U will be an afterthought this Fall, and 3DS sells well but isn’t setting the world on fire like DS. I don’t know what options Nintendo has long-term.

I look forward to Nintendo just making software. Seems like everyone wins in that situation.

Iwata is still the president of Nintendo and they are still attending E3.

You guys aren’t reading news correctly…or maybe reading what you want to see.

Dat Nintendo hate… it’s like Capcom hate, only nowhere near as justified. I hope Ninty drops some nukes(Smash, Bayo2, Zelda, Metroid) at E3 this year.

After Nintendo’s last direct this thread is obsolete.

I have a feeling the only thing nintendo isn’t doing is competing with sony and xbox. i think nintendo once the first party games get released will be selling bucket loads

in peoples consciousness they attach sony and microsoft and compare, same thing with the wii. it wont be as successful as the wii, but remember that neither xbox 360 or ps3 were as successful as the wii. when people can see all three consoles it will be about the games and nintendo has nintendo characters

thats a bold statement to say "dat nintendo hate…"
i don’t hate nintendo at all. in fact, i love them so much it pains me to see them go under.
no one is denying that nintendo is in trouble. its a fact, presently they still sold under 500k.
and even iwata says general consumers think its just a add-on to the wii and they failed to market it as a next gen console. real talk.

edit: refer to this URL

i HOPE they kill it, releasing all these first party titles.
but they haven’t sold anyone with any good news of when their titles will be expected and released.

maybe in like 2014??

i shouldn’t be assuming, but neither should all of us.
i just want nintendo to do the right thing.
nintendo is competing with mircosoft and sony, but regardless.
i don’t care if they don’t have high end graphics and sh1t.
i just wanna see them produce really fun games.
they are not done, but they can be.

Considering Nintendo was established in 1889, I think they’ll be able to stick it out through a slow launch of the Wii U. They definitely need more games and better marketing, and new IP and big franchise titles. I’m a sucker for Mario, Zelda, and Metroid (Other M notwithstanding) and those games will sell well. If Wii U does ultimately end up failing completely, I think Nintendo will have to rethink their strategy. But they have been an innovative company with a life that spans across three different centuries, and i don’t see them throwing in the towel any time soon.

I have a Wii U, but I play my PS3 exclusively after beating NSMBU. Give me more games, and I’ll play more.

I still dont get how people can even think they are done when they havent released their major first part titles yet. When they release those, if sales of the system dont go up then you can start arguing that they have failed. 3DS did not have a great launch people said it was dead. Nintendo started releasing their major first partys and some great third parties and 3DS is stronger than ever and still growing. Anyone who says they are tired of playing another zelda, mario, kirby or whatever and then goes back to playing COD or any freaking fighter is ignorant.

The price drop is what gave the 3DS a shot in the arm.

This is pretty much what I believe as well. Nintendo really isn’t competing with the other guys. They haven’t been since the Wii was released, and they were successful because of that. Maybe they need to directly compete now? I want to see blood.

Maybe there needs to be another Sega to threaten Nintendo. Those were exciting times. I think at the very least, the WiiU and 3DS could be a haven for indie devs. They made some changes to their policies to make it easier for indies to get dev kits. Personally, I would love to have both dev kits, and I will try to get them once I have the money.

I don’t think Nintendo really could die at this point in time. Aren’t they sitting on something like 8 or 9 billion? With the way things look right now, WiiU-wise, worst case scenario it ends up being like the N64 and GameCube in the long run: Worth it for the first-party Nintendo games. And I’m pretty much fine with that. When I buy one of their systems that’s all I really want or expect from it, anything else is just a bonus. I don’t have a burning desire to see Nintendo rule the gaming world again, or to play every single multi-platform game on my WiiU.

The thing is guys. Even if Nintendo reveals yet another Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Fzero, whatever. Those games appeal to relatively small markets. The Hardcore Nintendo players and kids. What about good 3rd party games? 3rd party games are what really sells the console.

It’s funny but it seems like Nintendo has again fucked up with 3rd party support. Nothing has changed from the N64 days. And this is looking like the first time they have a console that flat out bombs. Not just comes in a distant 2nd or 3rd but just bombs.

Small markets. The fuck you smokin.
