That particular Haim song goes under old school disco and funk.
House by itself is a huge genre and thats why I specifically stated “funky house” and not just “house”. For me house music divides into 2 distinct sounds. The Disco influenced style house and the European “Trance” sound which is far less melodic. Some songs are a combination of the two like most of the tracks that Calvin Harris creates.
“Trance refers to a state of hypnotism and heightened consciousness. This is portrayed in trance music by the mixing of layers with distinctly foreshadowed build-up and release. A characteristic of virtually all trance music is a mid-song climax followed by a soft breakdown disposing of beats and percussion entirely,[3][5] and leaving the melody and/or atmospherics to stand alone for an extended period before gradually building up again. but from 01:31 to 02:00 it’s funky/disco house.
Then it’s back to trance from 02:00 to 03:53 it’s Trance again
In England we don’t use the term EDM at all and it’s not that hard to separate sounds. That’s why we have clubs that play different types of music.
