Watched this last year,I was suprised how much electronic music was made by black people.I always thought some ric french dudes came up with most generas of electronic music.:razzy:
I was too when I actually looked into the history. It’s like black people are responsible for most new forms of music in America.
What I don’t get is how young black people diss electronic music so much (whether it’s house or techno or anything else) yet the very same artists they listen to have producers that go around the world and pick up these ‘unique’ beats and all they did was take them from electronic music in some form. Like if Timbaland used a little chip tunes in his beats that’s cool but if I listen to pure chip tune music it’s not? Whatever, fuck em’.
:
black people diss trance and techno only. house is a far more diverse and experimental unlike trance/techno which remind me of raggaeton, its like every tune sounds the same.
House music was created in Chicago, Illinois, which is predominantly black. Carl Cox is the greatest house dj ever and he’s black. i’m suprised you guys didnt know this.
I think this depends on the area cause I know black people that give me this weird look when i mention House music artists like they heard of them and when they hear the music they really aren’t feelin it too much.
Yeaaah. Not sure why he said that. Techno was born out of House too in sister city Detroit. From black folks as well too.
Yeah maybe in some areas you can listen to it and not get the stares or the shuns. In my area, ha! Like anyone who goes to Movement memorial day weekend I swear grew up in the burbs where it’s more sociably acceptable. A lot of cats who all “RAP IS LORD AND SAVIOR. ALL HAIL RAP!” just are like wtf to me when it comes to electronic music. And hell I love how I had cats ask me if I did E while dancing or listening to the music. Wth?
I do think that people like it, it’s just that they don’t listen to it on their own.
so I’m trying to branch out and try new genre’s n stuff, most of the stuff I’ve heard in this thread is pretty great. Kinda sucks that there really isn’t a way to get alot of the music though, especially sicne most of the time I’m listening to music isn’t when i’m at home.
Not just black… gay, too. Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan, etc. Just sayin’!
The first thing you should do… learn Pro Tools. Then you get a hot ass girl with a sexy ass voice like Lisa Shaw to do some vocals for you and layer that in. If you don’t want to invest all the time and money into that but have a DS, I heard that Korg-10DS is a pretty cool thing to check out too, just something to mess around with at a low cost.
Man… when people at parties ask me if I’m on E and when I say “no” they say some bullshit like “Oh really? Why are you here then?” -_-
If you want to pick it up and teach yourself… pretty much next to impossible. What I forgot to include in my last post is that it’s the real shit. Not just a computer program but a whole setup, hardware and everything. And it requires musical knowledge. One of my close friends is Pro Tools certified, classically trained musician who specializes in deep house (I’ll upload some tracks if he’s cool with it), and I tried to mess around with his setup and I had no clue what the hell was going on. They got classes, though, if you live in or near a big city. It’s a pretty big investment…
Slightly less intimidating (and a way easier way to get into this whole music thing) is Acid Pro… I think there’s a free trial available. You can use the included loops to make tracks without the use of a keyboard/synthesizer, too. It’s fun to mess around with even if you can’t get into all of the features it offers.
In hindsight, Pro Tools was a shitty answer to your question - I fail sometimes.
