A nice 10 minute deep house mix

Why is it that people who dont really care for electronica or dance music in general can fuck with DEEP house?

It seems like the downtempo/ambient sounds are comforting. But good soulful vocals over a hard electro beat really do the same thing IMHO.

EDIT: Thats not really a mix. The pauses in between tracks made me cringe. But I really like the tracks. There really is no way you can fuck up deep house. Too good.

That mix zulu posted didnt sound downtempo at all which is why I’m still confused as to what exactly Deep house is. I will say that if a DJ has a really good ear for tracks i’ll give him/her the benefit of the doubt if the mixing is substandard.

I thought the popularity of deep house was an american thing. In the UK its the complete opposite. Funky house, RnB, hip hop are the only distinctive sounds you’ll here in clubs.

Deep house sets (which we also call lounge music) usually come in midway during a club night, for a 20min rest (chillout) period, before the uptempo stuff kicks in again.

Deep House is really hard to define. To many people, deep house IS house inasmuch as the deep house sound is very distinctive above all the other numerous forms of house (acid, disco, progressive et al). There is a heavyness to deep house that isn’t found anywhere else. Out here (well…when I used to live in Los Angeles), deep house was always played last. 2 or 3 in the morning. Which is why to me, deep house is best enjoyed very late at night.

Actually, click this link. I might have posted here (or in the techno thread) but this is the GREATEST ELECTRONIC MUSIC RESOURCE ON THE PLANET.

And why are we the only 3 people posting in this thread? And I want to be a mod too on your house forum. I actually have a bunch of mixes. Us 3. Gogogo.

deep house is the essence of house music.

house music is a BLACK ART-FORM. FIRST AND FOREMOST. made BY BLACK PEOPLE, FOR BLACK PEOPLE.

in understanding that, the true essence of the music is imbued with SOUL. it is intended not only to make you dance but to touch you on a more intimate level. house was an EXPERIMENTAL art-form, arising from ORIGINALITY as well as musicality. most music people want to label house (“deep” or otherwise) these days lacks the musicality and creativity intended by the creators of the genre. and the result is a bunch of throwaway, boring, soundalike garbage, watered down so some dunk white person can still understand what’s going on.

all of these derivative lame corporate buzzwords like “progressive” “soulful” “funky” “deep” “disco” “lounge” et al, were created so that people who don’t understand the music can talk like they do, in other words, they are meaningless tripe. there is ONE true essence, and that is HOUSE, be it deep, soulful, techy or whatever, house is a soulful and creative artform that is made with thought and PASSION. once the sound became “popular” a bunch of bandwagoners tried to profit off the music by dumbing it down for general consumption, this is why when you say “house” people think of armin van burren before larry heard and ron trent. people don’t know any better because they aren’t taught. how can you claim to love something when you don’t even know the history of it? music is not about making something for others consumption. it’s an expression and a reflection of ones true self.

Basically, deep is to house as soul is to R&B. I don’t think I can explain it any better.

Zulu, i’ll make you a mod as soon as the sites up and running.

Because it doesn’t sound electronic , it sounds ‘real’ to them.

So this is the general house music thread eh? Seems like there is no love for new ‘white people house’ (indie/electro) or progressive /=.

I happen to love Progressive House. Even if it sounds a lot like trance with a thicker beat.

Well, with all due respect, house has branched out into those “buzzwords” thats supposedly dumb the culture down.

But i mean…Im not too fond of Latin house unless it is done to a tee. Im more a filtered/french/lounge/old school type. But within the past 3 or 4 years the electro/dirty/figit this has really blown up. I like it all.

Being a Dj you dont really have the luxury of completely excluding entire sections that all fall under house music.

Figit is just mindblowingly awesome. I’m going to see Mightyfools in Phoenix in April.
