I’ll be the first to admit the best Cody I’ve played is here on long island. Just a smart player with insane knowledge. But I don’t think I’ve ever lost to him in tourneys or sets.
He just might not be a better Cody to show the matchup in Codys favor but he does perfect me often… Haha.
I know I’m always the one complain about adon but damn I hate this character. I was wondering if cr.tech + mk would work against the jaguar kick. Possibly make it whiff. Or maybe I should just stop cr.teching in general against him. Scrubby adons I can deal with but when it comes to an adon who actually learns the characters. I’m at a loss.
Maybe I’ll just learn him like I do all other characters I have trouble with.
You’re not the only one who hates Adon. A friend of mine does a great deal of pressure with him.
I just happened to fight Cody today, it took me a while to realize how to fight against him.
I need some help with Cody. I can’t manage his game.
I try to attack him and his pokes kill me. I go far away, he rushes me down and kill me again with pokes followed by combos.
I don’t know if I’m stressed now, but I can’t manage to punish almost nothing of him.
Don’t let him get started with any of his bs. He has a solid anti air with b.mp and if they use it alot just blow him up with an lk dive kick. If they like to use hk ruffian kick then just focus on your ground game lol. Beware of his ex meter and just spamming fireballs cuz ex ruffian kick goes though them. These are just basic things.
When he’s up close to you he can go into his huge frame trap game. The key to his frame traps is you pressing buttons and usually that’s because you’re crouch teching. To avoid this I just watch what he’s gonna do. If he starts off with cr.lp, I usually cr.tech 2-3 times then block. Then if he goes into criminal upper or ruffian kick you can prepare to punish. If he fadcs the criminal upper then I go back to cr.teching.
There’s a lot of other things that I can’t remember but the best thing to do is block as best you can with minimal cr.teching.
Edit: he also has a setup that beats wake up teching. From either a techable knockdown or untechable one (cant remember) where he dashes twices towards you and starts off with St.hp and he will get his counter hit and possibly a 300-400 damage combo. Just look out for the 2 dashes. I think it’s a pretty common cody setup that you should just beware of.
nope, that’s how it is for any character. They can delay or space the dive kick so you have no option other than to block. But maybe it will change in 2012 with height restriction?
This, its pretty old news, this is why they are over powered, but then again its the same deal with Rufus, but Rufus doesnt have 3 angles on his divekick…or a command grab for that matter.
No real universal answer but make sure you don’t forget about jump back normals as AA. Jump back HK works well. Its good to throw in there as an option to be less predictable and it’s usually difficult to punish. The obvious downside is you give up screen space for free.
Sometimes if I’m getting cornered I like to neutral jump over their dive kick and then do HK dive kick over their head to swap sides. More indirect way to deal with it really but it can give you a lot more real estate to work with.
Played him when he came to EU, the guys godlike its not really a matchup thing. You can build more meter in the fireball war than Guile can, its just harder to deal with booms than guile having to deal with fuhajins. Though i would probably counterpick with Rose or Abel, the matchup does feel hopeless when you cant get any headway.
Edit: A little bit more because i was in a rush before, but yeah i dont think the matchups in Guile’s favour, it just requires you play a specific way for as long as possible otherwise you give him too many opportunities.
Much like Rose using soul reflect you have to use Store in the same way, cancel the booms and then throw the fireball back at him(a poor mans soul reflect). You have to stay at mid range though and never retreat to full range simply because you need to push him into the corner at least twice in the round should all go well. The only time i can see full range being beneficial is at the start of the game to build meter for ex low fireball, of which 100% of meter should be used on ex low fireball, at mid range this is the best way to score knockdowns and get through sonic booms/trade in your favour with them. Short bursts of offence (very patient offence) off knockdowns, jumpin with Crossup j.Mk or directly overhead J.Hp to avoid Flash kick.
I think the best match to watch in terms of this specific style of play is Arturo vs Dieminion from this recent NEC, its not Juri but you should be playing the MU that way.
I played a decent guile today for a while on endless. Definitely best strat is to turtle and take advantage of your anti air normals on the ground. Punish flash kicks and store two fireballs (usually low fireball and medium). You can beat out his sonic hurricane with ex pin. I also discovered that more or less you can get under his overhead with a cr. lk. For example I would be getting pressured, I would start to mash crouch tech, and when he would go for overhead it would whiff as Juri’s cr. lk came out.
I don’t have problems against Guile lol
IMO the match up is in Juri’s favor
Store fuhajin, neutral jump over booms, release fuhajin, neutral jump etc… I use the fuhajin low, because if throw sonic boom when a fuhajin is on the screen, it’s sur it will hit and then I confirm with dive kick and push him into the corner
Use FSE in this MU and Focus his booms to build a lot the ultra
If you want to jump in over booms, be sur to use j.hp because if he anti air with cr.hp, there is a trade but you get a knockdown (Guile is free to cross up)
Edit :
I forgot to say that i found a unblockable against Yun and Yang
In the corner, forward throw, Neutral Jump j.HK, activate FSE, forward jump MK
The same setup is hard to block for Sakura and Hakan (juri crosses up but the j.mk doesn’t hit cross up) (not tested all the cast)
Unblockable against Makoto is the same but use forward jump LK instead of MK
was in a chat talking and my friend thought of this…
<Dustlooper>: Try j.hk OS lvl 1 focus.
<Dustlooper>: If it’s a safe jump, it beats everything
<Dustlooper>: Including U2
<Dustlooper>: Well, It loses to U1
<Dustlooper>: And it hits spiral out of its start-up and gets a crumple.
You do this only if you have a life lead and then proceed to fireball war him. Imo i’d go for the kill and pressure him until he is done for. I’ve fought many a guile in Super and it was by far her hardest match up. In this verison it’s still hard for her and not really in her favor since juri gets destroyed by turtle characters still. I got a match recorded of my fighting a guile at NEC in casuals and i hope the person who recorded it uploads it soon so i can show you a guile fight. IMO though i think the guile either lacked the match up knowledge or was just nervous i dunno.
@Kail Dieminion only knows guile. He has that experience over both of us and there isn’t very much he hasn’t seen before. Fighting him requires you make zero mistakes and catch him on all of his.
