The tip??

Of your foot. Like on the dive kick give em the ole toe tap. Example, jump back and ex dive kick on a crouching opponent. Try and aim it like right at their foot. Touch them as little as you can. When they wall bounce your further than if you hit them flush. Makes it a little harder to hit. This is because when you hit them flush your opponent falls like…kind of on top of you…a little bit horizontally off. Mostly, ontop of you though. When you hit the tip of the dive kick they’re not on top of you at all so you have less of an active hitbox to hit the ultra.

I hope that makes sense. I just did some testing vs abel crouching. Do something like…corner abel…jump over INTO the corner, dash 3 times, walk back a bit, jump back ex dive kick. Aim for his feet. Now when he bounces off the wall look how much space you have to cover.

Edit: Okay, I think the reason why we’re having a hard time hitting this is because there is less recovery on the dive kick. The reason I think this is because we have the proper rhythm to hit it. But when we wall bounce and try it we’re off. Why? Because its probably too high. We’er doing it early expecting them to be a different height.

How can I prove this? Try this. Hit the ex dive kick flush. Once you recover, dash forward ultra. Did it work? Probably not. Now try and hit with the tip of the dive kick. This time, it works.

We might have more time after a tip ex dive kick than a flush one. Maybe because the last hit of the dive kick hits meaty? I dunno.

An update on some new Matchup tricks:

  • Getting more comfortable grabbing Yang’s Roll after baiting it with fake fireballs, though the timing is a little harder than grabbing Balrog’s Dashes.
  • Eureka!! Makoto U2 blow up by reading it with j.MP (I have a save I can upload later).
  • Yun is getting more free by the day =\ I haven’t lost to Yun now in over a month? Sucks for those people who don’t have great escapes or zoning capabilities like Juri though~
  • Evil Ryu & Oni are still kind of new to me ATM =\ Hopefully I can practice more against Flash Metroid’s Evil Ryu, he blew me up pretty hard today while I was playing from work :lol: Also, Chris Hu switched to Fei Long? =( I may or may not have a set against him saved on Xbox Battle Log pre-EVO.

The standard tactic is to lk/hk.Fuhajin zone, if he gets you in the corner or starts pressuring, just counter to the other side (not up-and-over). There is no “Going on Offense” against Yun like you can against other characters. The number of times you normally wake up with EX.Pinwheel should be the number of times you try to meaty him with c.MK xx lk.Release (only to keep him honest, and show that his oki isn’t free). Meaty lk.Release -> cautious walk/dash up is good because it deters him from mashing, and the blockstun from the Release allows for a little more pressure with minimal mashing risk. In any case, the fireball game is what destroys Yun. He can’t do anything about lk.Release unless he yomis it and his airborn state flies over it at the perfect time. s.MK for far anti-air, s.HK for closer anti-air (far version or close). I don’t opt to crouch tech against Yun =\ I just mash EX.Counter during block strings (if I have bar), or s.MK / s.CL.Fierce when I feel he’s tired of me blocking and wants to go for a grab/command grab.


Insert EX.Counter for where I got blown up by blockstring -> Command Grab. I should’ve represented random EX.Pinwheel more =( Just to show I was capable of throwing it out -_-;

Thanks man. Yes, hitting it shallow means they land further away, will try holding towards for a split second before Ultra. If I hit them deep, eg their head, it ALWAYS connects (I have the timing down now)

If your 100% sure your too far, you can dash and then ultra.

Im guilty of trying to mash various moves through stings on Yun, but surely excounter is the move that would land you dead, between throws, command throws and palms or general reversal baiting, ouch.

Juri does better against Yun than the rest of the cast…but man it just doesnt matter sometimes…

I am too guilty of this, at times. Mashing on yun who has a 3 frame poke is a no no. I agree juri handles yun better than most of the cast does. All she needs a few good bnb combos to finish off yun.

Yun has an overhead, air tight strings, a kara grab, and a command grab. He also has a dive kick thats low to the ground that murders crouch teching. Yo. I’m mashing ANYTIME you command grab me. I’m mashing when I block ex. superman. I’m mashing when you think you’re gonna dive kick and pressure me with jabs…Dont drop your combo. I’m here to make you better by showing you what happens when you drop combos.

What did Cody get again in AE?

That guy used to be free in Super but now I seem to have a lot of trouble vs good Codys. He’s so scary up close. And seems to deal very good damage.

Oh and fuck T.Hawk. I hate this matchup. I feel like I’m playing 100 times better than my opponent is, I bring my opponent to an inch of his life and then BOUM the random ultra happens and I lose like 80% or something. Seriously the guy hits harder than a train. What’s up with that.

honestly i forgot, but i’ll never forget his biggest buff that make him an legit threat ( even though he kinda was already ), and that’s his new 3 frame short with dumb range making it ideal to punish a ton of shit among others. but now that he got better walkspeed ( cody buttons are great, he just lacked the walkspeed to play proper footsies ), and block while having the knife, and bad spray being fadc-able, cody is going to be alot better in the future.

So faster walkspeed + 3f normal with crazy range + a lot more stun than before.

Well that explains a lot. I’ve noticed I easily get dizzy vs Cody and very fast too. I’m not liking that at all…

And using EX kasatushi to get out of Cody’s pressure is risky because he has quite a few armor breaking moves or he can just throw you. Also, that freaking EX bingo move is annoying as hell when you’re trying to pressure Cody with FSE or in the corner.

I believe there are strings that beat Cody out if bingo. Or start your fse string with an option select an then go from there.

C.lk, qcb-lk+mk, fse combo.

If the clk whiffs ex pinwheel comes out. If not, you just get a lk.

Theoretical. Should work though.

I have a new character to add onto my hate list. Guy. I’m starting to get lost with this matchup. It used to be easy but maybe im getting worse. :frowning: Gonna learn him now just to get an example of how he can be stopped by the majority of people.

vs Guy:

-cr.hp and nj.hk kills his little flip jump elbow shenanigans. You can also dash under and try cr.mk xx pinwheel
-cr.mk wins vs all versions of tornado kick (including EX). Guy is free on wake up for Juri.
-Use U1 since Guy is trapped on knockdowns.
-His sweep hits twice so don’t try Focus Attack too much.
-You can zone Guy pretty easily. L fuhajin beats his slide and running. H fuhajin beats his flip jump. M fuhajin beats his jump kick.

That’s pretty much what you need to know. The rest is just playing smart. Don’t jump on him. Don’t focus. Anti-air and zone all day then when you get a knockdown rush him down like crazy. You got nothing to fear because of cr.mk.

Guy can ex run into slide, and that beats cr.mk, he can also backdash, and that avoids cr.mk, his wakeup is certainly not free.

Cr.mk goes under his elbow, Ultra 1 (timed right), crossup mk and obviously goes under tatsus.

cr.lk can punish elbow drops, they go under the hitbox and hit him for trip guard punish. Cr.Hp can punish Izuna flips. You need to mash lights to get out of that fuzzy Izuna grab too on wakeup, thats important. Slide xx Neutral jump after the knockdown is a safe jump. Dont jump in this matchup in the neutral game, at all, theres no reason to really, you will end up regreting it if u get grabbed.

Duno just some random tips really, i dont know the matchup much either.
