Full-time Purple Spider Lesbian: Juri Match-up/Strategy Thread

Vs Gen

Okay i know this matchup, because I used to main Gen for a while and was pretty decent with him (I still play with him every few days, hes a fun character). Gen is all about smoke and mirrors / gimmicks (for the most part). Gen’s ground game is pretty limited honestly…all he can do regarding footsies is cr.mp/cr.mk/st.mk xx hands, which isnt really a great option for him vs Juri because on hit AND on block, hands pushes his ass WAY far away. Juri can rape gen all day from 1/2-full screen distance. Since Gen cant really footsie vs her (Juri’s fireballs / st.mk / st.hk / cr.mp stop that shit in a hurry), hes going to have to resort to jumping in (which is what Gen almost always has to do…which is why he gets he gets suprise sexed every time he plays vs a character with good AA’s). Juri can stop all of his jump ins with her typical AA’s, except his j.hp. In both stances, that jump in is godly. She can trade with it, which would probably be in her favor over due to health similarities / getting him off you. Basically just play patiently. Also, if Gen manages to knock you down, hes going to go for an ambiguous crossup 99.9% of the time. be ready for it.

here are a few other quick notes vs Gen

  • His © cr.lk (the one that puts you in a juggle state), is -7 on block. punish that shit HARD.
  • His Oga is at LEAST -3. You can throw him on block every time. make sure you do. BUT it breaks armor, so dont try and focus it or counter movement it. it will give him a free combo / reset, and thats not what you want vs gen.
  • if he has full super, be very careful when footsie-ing. He can EASILY st.mk xx hands xx super > reset / waterfall kicks / ultra. that shit hurts too.
  • dont FA vs him ever. He can EASILY st.mk xx hands and rape your focus all day. As a matter of fact, I do this on the regular to when using Gen vs Fei Long (everyone knows they whore their godlike FA).
-if he has U2 stocked, dont throw fireballs. His crane U2 goes through them. It also hits overhead. block high.
  • Gen has good normal AA’s but each is very situational. Learn if hes confident in using them or not. Learn quick too.
  • if you EVER see him do his © cr.hp, make DAMN sure you block it. on regular hit, it does 180 damage / 300 stun. On CH that means it does 270 damage / 450 stun. its slow as molasses, but a lot of Gen’s will use it on your wakeup because it can stuff reversals if they space it right (even DP’s).

Thats all i can think of for right now, i might add some more. I just got off work a little while ago so im kinda tired. Hope this has helped some.

I havnt tried grabbing blocked Oga’s, need to give that a go. His ultra 2 divekick thing has to be blocked high too, and they often use it as a sort of anti anti-air in the same way we might use our ex dive kick. I got caught with that once, but still if you block it thats a free Ultra 2.

Ultra 2 in the gen matchup is godlike, ive said it a couple of times but hes got the best juggle hitbox after 1 hit of a divekick, you barely have to ever space it and you alwaays seem to have plenty of time to hit confirm it. So yeah Ultra 2 all the way.

=)

also, his crane U2 (divekick) has garbage priority. Seriously. you can jab him out of it on reaction. Its only good for punishing fireballs.

Ah sorry missed you mentioning U2, didnt know about his HP though and i play a Gen quite regularly. I like how punishable all his super and ultra’s are though, its insane.

its all good, no worries <3

Awesome way to stop coward copter, did you see that shit? It hits practically behind you.

Hmmmmm. That was sexy. Wonder what other times this would be useful?

Need solid advice against the ibuki matchup in general. not entirely sure which style to use against her, and i hope that im wrong in thinking that i dont have many options against that vortex…

you probably have talked about it before so a link is just as good…

you can bypass her kunai vortex by doing auto correct armour cancel wakeup expinwheel (thats a pretty long name huh?)

You armour cancel expinwheel with ex counter (only wastes 1 meter), ex counter will absorb the kunai and the pinwheel will hit ibuki out of her landing recovery frames. Its pretty much one of the only times armour cancel is actually neccessary.

You can just block the vortex too. Try to avoid getting in there in the first place, but if you’re knocked down, just keep blocking ibuki. If she jumps, block high, if she crosses up, switch the side you’re blocking etc. It’s not like Akuma vortex where he can just do a “jump throw” to beat high block.

I usually throw fireballs conservatively (to avoid getting EX neckbreakered into vortex), punish her unsafe moves and when I get the momentum I rush her down to get a lead. Her defensive options aren’t all that good, beyond having a reversal, but getting reversaled can mean getting vortexed, so once I have a firm lead, I prefer to hang back, because she doesn’t have an easy time getting in.

mannnnn!!! i use to think adon was pretty free to juri till i played this pretty solid adon. we go even but it’s kinda hard because he can get in real quick and easy. and he plays smart. how should juri handle this match up? i know about fbs shutting down his jag tooth and jag kick but i wanna see if maybe anyone here may know more.

I hate the match up. I put it at 6.5 - 3.5 adon only because MY DEFENSE is ass. If your defense is better then maybe you’ll have better luck. Its at best 5.5-4.5 adon though…never even. Once hes in, its over. Juri doesn’t have the defense to deal with this. Furthermore, juri doesnt have the offense to end the match.

With that being said, play the match with that in mind. You cant let him in. This match is a match of controlling space and making good reads. I keep him at mid screen. From here i can react to jagga kicks, and I’m outside his RH range.

Jagga Kicks that are high, I dash under and punish with c.mk xx pinwheel > back dash > high Store. You cant anti air them. They will blow the AA up. Blocking them puts you in his mix up which is bad. I avoid this at all costs. If you block it you might have lost the match. Get ready to tech (dont crouch tech), and just block and be patient. His sc.mp beats crouch tech and he has his fuzzy guard. Any instant air Jagga kicks you can dash under I believe but its a risk. You could just dash right into it.

Q: Can we absorb air jaggas? If thats true, counter out of there. You’ll recognize it because he doesn’t say “JAGGA KICK!”

Jagga Toofs are easy, far mk everytime. With Feng Shui on I far hk xx mid store. If you have ultra 2 this is a bad idea for him. If you have ultra 2 and you ever see a yellow flash/wall climb, immediately ultra.

Air Games. I like Jump back Round house in this match a lot. Watch out. He’ll try and adjust his timing to catch you. If you think this will happen, stay grounded and anti air. You have to think ahead on a higher level. always think “I did this twice, he’ll be expecting it this time…how can I avoid the loss”. NJ. mk isnt bad either really. If hes starting to NJ often remember that if you time it right you can dash under (But he can option select Rising Jagga), or c.hp. You really should be careful going air to air though due to his jagga kick.

Rising Jagga: To beat out rising Jagga, I like using J.hp. His Rising Jagga moves forward mostly, so if used I can avoid it with a “Cross up” hp. I like to use j.hp > sc.hp to blow up jump and throw attempts. If blocked watch for what side he lands on. This could mess up inputs. Possibly dash forward always and recognize from there?

Footsies : his RH will beat a majority of your moves however I do like c.mp, far mp in this match and far mk. They will stop jump attempts. I would like c.mk but RH will blow this up.

Rushing down: I dont like rushing adon down. I respect his wake up. I dont wanna give him the knock down…If I rush down its because he doesn’t have meter. I dont think his Rising Jaggas are great on start up. so a Meaty mp should beat him out. If you get the kd i think thats the move to use. Possibly c.mk to go under jaggas. I would test it.

Fireballs; Of course fireballs. Use these to your best ability. Throw out a lot of mid and highs. You really gotta read correctly. You have to be a juggler in this. I mean by…you gotta know where he is, where you are…what buttons your holding and when to store. Example, if your holding a mid you cant far mk. Adon will be able to close the gap now. C.mp might work I dont trust it though. I dont use a lot of lows in this match. I use them on resets to get some distance on him. I think this is a match you need to build meter so if you can throw a lot of them. once you get super he cant afford to take a hk fireball in the air. Thats super baby. It also gives you your get of of jail free cards.

You have to have a good flow with this match. Its a fun match but a nightmare. I respect adons wake up to much really. Ultra 2 is the one i go by. I can punish a Jagga everything with a proper read.

Its a little long winded, let me know what you think D$

i think this is very solid advice. btw, i don’t really think theres much juri can do on adons wakeup ( please correct me if i’m wrong ) since the guy wakes up 6 frames faster than anyone else. i think all we can do is meaty fuhajins.

Well, don’t most Juri’s safe jumps of untechable KD include a small pause? I would imagine the pause is about 6 frames. So Adon should be safe jumpable at least off of throws, just need to verify the setups. Sweep is iffy, maybe too slow? Also any FSE activation safe jump setup should be pretty close if you leave out the activation (1f too fast). Dunno how useful that is anyway, since he has 5f reversal if I remember right (or maybe even 4f?), so the setups have to be pretty spot on to work.

Also bunch of hard work to find setups for him that become useless come AE, that’s why I haven’t done it :stuck_out_tongue:

I keep him back. On fuhajin kick hit I let it rock and toss it. Use the block stun and hit stun to store again. I try and stay back. I fear him as much as zangief.

I tried safe-jumping Adon, it seems to be a no-go. :frowning: The best I’ve done is come up to delay my jump-in enough so that it stuffs his Rising Jaguar, but the problem is, all he has to do is delay his Rising Jaguar and that’ll beat your jump-in out. I’ll try out more methods.
I’m think I could get a cross-up to beat his Rising Jaguar out though but I’ll test that out tomorrow…

Well, i just came back from a tourney and lost to the same ibuki for the 9000 time. After all this work I’ve been putting in I’m just too depressed right now to understand why Juri is so free on knockdown. Its not even about blocking the vortex stuff anymore, becuase ive seen it so much, and you know not to get knocked down. so i play mad defensive to keep him out, but because of that i dont get any real damage on him. then all it takes is for me to mess up a tiny bit on spacing and its basically over. It’s sad because it just feels like even though I’m probably overall better than this guy in skill, his character does the one thing that juri can’t deal with well, so that’s all he seems he has to do. that, and he does reversals and the most random times it’s almost noob-like but he makes it work (that’s another story though) right now mentally im doing so much work, but on the other side it seems like, “yo, just knock juri down, and you win.” its exhausting.

Should I just pick a character to counter ibuki or what. because it feels like juri can’t cut it. I just dont know what to do anymore. I really should be better than this by now…

I need to know what moves beat what against ibuki. like move vs move basis.

Ibuki isnt too bad… what exactly are you having trouble with ? Im assuming her vortex…but other than that…?

im sure you know that you can counter / EX counter / AC EX pinwheel her kunai vortex…right ?once you do it a few times they will stop throwing Kunai. Just counter on reaction to Kunai. its not too hard. If you counter only on reaction to Kunai, you will never get baited. Its honestly not that hard once you work with it for a little while…

but like i was saying, what else besides that are you having trouble with ?

Kasatushi beats the kunai vortex completely, so that’s a big part of Ibuki’s game that just doesn’t work against Juri. I don’t know Ibuki nearly well enough to go through all of her moves, but you can mess around in training mode to figure stuff out. For anti-ground, try far LK, far MK, and crouch MK. For anti-air, far MK, crouch MP, and crouch HP.

the main problem is keeping her out so she can never do that vortex in the first place. its putting too much pressure on my zoning game because i was certain i was screwed on knockdown. im just gonna have to try to get matches recorded. i knew i was missing something obvious so ill work on that and get back to you the next time i face him.
