FS: Numbski's Balls

I’m not too sure what you mean by subsurface crack but there are a couple of “chips” and cracks inside the ball by the inserts. I’m guessing it’s from the drilling but they are kinda deep inside so I don’t think it be an issue. I have no complains.

Just checking in to see if there are any new balls. Also seeing if you’re still holding those 3 for me : )

~Paik

Balls held firmly. Been busy this weekend. Tomorrow evening should have more.

Couple of money shots for you Numbski. I can’t wait wait for the black one to come.

Update.

I have had a BAD week here guys. Personal problems abound. Nothing shipped last week. No one is getting ripped off, but patience and cool heads would be much appreciated. :frowning:

Thank you for the pictures zombie. I wish I were more enthusiastic right now, but I feel like huddling up in a corner and crying. Serious bout of depression I’m fighting off here.

Take care of business man, been there done that, I hope you feel better, we need your balls ;).

No worries, numbski. I’m in absolutely zero hurry. =)

Thank you both very much. It’s important to me that people don’t view me as a deadbeat. I don’t take people’s money and run. The stuff going on with me right now I’d prefer not to unload on the internet, but unpleasant doesn’t really say it.

That said, the one thing slowing me down on making new ones is that we have a heat advisory going on here, and before heat index, it is going to be over 100 degrees today, plus humidity, plus heat index. It is VERY difficult to go outside and drill glass when it’s that hot. When it’s high 80’s I’m already wearing under armor-type shirts and such because I wind up sweating so much.

Anyway, you have my word, I’ll try to ship out what I have made already in the next day or so. I think I have enough to fill all current orders except paik, and his is mostly done already too. I have some 80+ balls here that could to be done in a hurry, just have to find time, weather, and emotional strength to push myself to do it.

Oh! Side note - given the circumstances, I only have two ball-drilling jigs made. If anyone on here would be interested in trading some labor - making me some jigs in exchange for ball tops, post in-thread. My PM’s keep filling up, or e-mail me my username at hksilver.net. It’s not hard to make, just requires forstner bits and probably a drill press, unless you have a VERY steady hand. I made these first two without the press. Ideally I’d like to have 45 jigs, since that’s how many balls come in a bag. That way as soon as they come in, I can jig them all, and then just go outside and start drilling. Jigs aren’t hard to make, but I’m not going to have time to make them for several more weeks. If I had more jigs though, I could knock them out in a hurry. They’re small too - about 3 inches wide, made out of a section of composite 1x4.

If you can PM the procedure, and its doable to make the jigs, I can make em for ya, I have access to a press. I do like your balls, no homo, so we can definitely work on that, I would like to offer them as accessories on my custom stick. Just let me know how its done, and we can see how workable it is.

List parts, supplies etc, as much info as possible, right now funds are low due to investments, but I’ll try to help ya out ;).

Paik is a cool guy, I can vouch for him, so I am sure its no trouble from him,

Feel better, and don’t worry about the little things, and remember everything is a little thing ;).

Jig template:

Composite 1x4’s can be had from several places. Decking stores would have them as Trex brand. Home Depot has Veranda. Heck, if you go to http://www.plasticlumber.com , you can actually get fully plastic 2x4’s. The important thing is that it needs to be waterproof. Composite does suck up water and swell a bit, but not badly. Just chop it up into 3 inch sections, then follow that template. If it helps, tonight when I get home I can take a picture of one.

The one mistake I made on my first two is that I used stainless decking screws to hold them closed. The problem of course is that the holes are starting to strip out. A better choice would be stainless carriage bolts (Ace Hardware has them) and then use a stainless washer and stainless wingnut (or heck, any stainless nut would do). For the sake of simplicity, stainless deck screws will do though. If I have many more jigs, I won’t be stripping out the holes as badly.

Oops!

Despite what I said, it uses a 1x4 composite plank, NOT 2x4. The jig would be 4 inches thick!!!

Oops. I’ll be taking a picture of a working jig here shortly.

Half of the jig:

Lousy shot of the jig upside-down. You’ll notice that my first jig I ran the hole through both pieces. This isn’t necessary, and only adds confusion as to which side is up.

and then the view from the top. You can see the green ball through the 21/64" hole.

I don’t need 40-some jigs this very second. Heck, even a few would help. If you go to the lumber yards, several will give you composite sample “scraps”. That is what I made this one from. Materials were free as a result. If not, I can buy a composite plank for you. Whichever. Either that, or I can order one from plasticlumber.com and have it shipped to you.

Thats fine, you can order it, I don’t see any problems in making it aside from having to buy the new bit for it. PM how you want to exchange, how many jigs for how many balls lol!

Also I have normal screws, like the ones in the picture, won’t those work? And if you made the jig, of higher quality wood, can’t you reuse that jig?

Also do you have a phone number or aim, we can chat?

pm me that, prob faster

Numbski,

Possible improvements, use T-nuts and bolts, use bolts and wing-nuts or use your inserts and bolts. I think the T-nuts would be the most durable solution. You might also want to get your hands on a drill press. It will improve your accuracy greatly.

TTFN

As people have said, take it easy man. I’m in no particular rush. That jig is pretty interesting, very simple to make. It would only take a couple hours to make 40 if you assembly line it, although I don’t see why you would need so many. I would just reuse like 5-10 of them.

~Paik

You mean the 21/64", or the forstner? If you mean the 21/64", you could skip that step and I can widen the pilot hole after the jigs get here. We’re talking seconds to do that. The bit is probably something like $8 otherwise. The forstner is kinda required though.

The forstner, anyhow its taken care of, just let me know when we have some time to talk, and get this thing rolling, I’ll add ya to my slot, and let me know when you need those sticks ;). Talk to you later, and feel free to msg me for anything.

Here ya go Numbski, I’m putting your balls to good use…

VERY nice.

You should have three more arriving any day now too.

Occurs to me - you’re going to be the second-best judge of a question that I’ve gotten a few times now, which is regarding the weight of the glass tops vs. the standard ones. Technically they are just short of twice as heavy. How’s it feel to you? It doesn’t impact my ability to play, but I’d be interested in a second opinion.
